Background. The aim of this study was to ascertain the reasons for physical activity involvement of inhabitants of Elbląg, where the unemployment rate is the highest in Poland. The study was preceded by a review of the concept of physical activity and the impact of physical activity on our health. Motivation behind people’s involvement in physical activity is diverse and is determined by many factors: gender, age, social and health experience, economic status, current lifestyle and current state of health. Young people are inspired by other motives than the older (although they may be similar). Regardless of the motive, the participant’s physical activity always produces beneficial health effects. Active people are healthier, physically fit, and in good shape. Material and methods. The study included 60 persons (30 women and 30 men). A diagnostic survey was the research method. Results. Surveyed residents of Elbląg undertake physical activity on the grounds: the improvement of well-being, attention to physical fitness and health, and enjoyment of physical activity. To the least important motives they passed the pleasure of physical activity, and fashion. The majority of respondents, regardless of age, undertook physical activity at the same frequency. People often take the education of physical activity than those who are less educated. Conclusions. The essence of the physical activity and recreation is that every person can do it regardless of age, economic status, weather conditions, and the place of residence. Inhabitants of Elblag indicate a variety of motives behind their choice of physical activity.

Opis:
Units of local governments in Poland are responsible for running actions in the sphere of physical culture. The growing number of people practicing sports, as well as social and rearing aspects related to sports exert an influence on the activity of sports clubs and social organizations which promote physical culture. While only some sports organizations are self-sufficient economically, most of them must rely on public support. In Poland, like in the majority of European countries, one of the main sources of financing are public grants. Cities with county rights (CCRs), being a specific type of commune, undertake tasks of both communes and counties. In the sphere of tasks pertaining to physical culture this can manifest itself by higher budgetary expenses in general, including grants. Local tasks connected with sport are stiffly defined by central regulations only to an insignificant extent. Therefore it is accepted that local governments possess considerable autonomy as regards deciding about allocation of the means assigned for their realization. This concerns also the grant-based expenses. Thus, the aim of the article is to examine whether the scale of expenses borne on physical culture, including local government grants, is dependent on the size of CCRs and on the level of their financial autonomy. In this paper, the author presents differences in expenses from budgets of CCRs on tasks pertaining to physical culture (Section 926 of the budgetary classification), with particular taking account of grants which constitute them. The basic tools of descriptive statistics and study of interdependences were used. A very large spatial difference in the examined variables, both in the regional framework and within the types of communes, was found. The mean interdependence was identified between grant-based expenses and the level of financial autonomy of the cities with county rights.
Jednostki samorządu terytorialnego w Polsce są odpowiedzialne za działania z zakresu kultury fizycznej. Rosnąca liczba osób uprawiających sport, oddziaływanie społeczne i wychowawcze sportu wpływają na aktywność klubów sportowych i organizacji społecznych promujących kulturę fizyczną.

Introduction. A large-scale research was performed concerning issues relating to physical activity as an important factor in a healthy lifestyle and involved observing the differences among males and females as future elites of the Ukraine. Objective. The objective of the research is to assess the physical activity of students from the Ukraine, considering such factors as: gender, leisure time, time spent sitting, sports performed or intended to be performed, and the BMI. Materials and method. The extended version of the IPAQ, supplemented with 3 original questions by the authors, was applied to a 2,125-strong student group from 12 majors of the University of Luck, Ukraine. Results. Students from Ukraine portrayed a positive picture of physical activity with significantly higher values in male students of both total activity and its fields, i.e. sports activity and work (studying). The male students performed better in their fitness (condition) self-assessment and the amount of time spent sitting, whereas the female students had better BMI results. Both genders differed considerably in their choice of sport-recreational activities. Conclusions. Females more than males demonstrated lower indices of participation in physical activity, which did not permit the formulation of a positive assessment of their lifestyle. A positive phenomenon is the normal BMI and trace values of overweight in women, exactly the reverse to males.

Background. The aim of the research was to analyze the recreational sports activity of students in the alpine region of Switzerland in relation to gender and town size. This explicitly includes motives, behavior, and attitude towards exercise and selected elements of physical education. Another aim was to find statistically significant correlations between several elements of physical education, leisure activity and level of sports activity. Material and methods. The research was conducted in 2013 among 412 students from the final class of grammar schools in the alpine region in Switzerland. These were 112 boys and 100 girls from a large town (over 100,000 inhabitants) and 104 boys and 96 girls from a small town (15,000 inhabitants). Kenyon’s ATPA Scale modified by the authors was used to investigate the students’ motives for participation in recreational sports activity. Another questionnaire developed by the authors was used to assess a few variables of leisure activities and school sports. Also an attitude scale was used to rate physical education in contrast to the other school subjects. Results and conclusions. The most important motives were health, catharsis, ascetic and social experience. The boys preferred risk and ascetic experience and the girls preferred aesthetic experience. Their favorite leisure activities were listening to music, meeting friends and practicing sport. Students were very active, which is reflected in the frequency in sport participation and the large number of sports. The choice depends on gender and town size. Soccer, skiing and cycling are the most popular sports among boys while girls mostly engage in cycling, swimming and skiing. Extreme sports activities are not practiced, but they are desired activities. The students get good marks in physical education, want more lessons and declare it is their favorite school subject. 82 % of the pupils are going to practice sport after leaving school. It was found that there are significant correlations between the frequency of sport participation, the male gender and the level of sports activity.

This essay presents argumentation leading to the conclusion that sports activity is an element of the right to privacy protected inter alia by Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, while it covers aspects of an individuals’ self-development and their interaction with other individuals. As a result, it can therefore be argued that the right to privacy protects, as a matter of principle, the right of an individual to play sports. At the same time, this article deals with issues related to the specificity of sports activity in the context of the protection of fundamental rights.

The sailors’ growing interest in small seaports initiated an intense process of tourist infrastructure development. In most of the examined ports, the sailing base has been expanded. The implementation of investments additionally increased the demand for sports and recreation services among sailors. The availability of modern havens and marinas brings many benefits for the local communities. New companies are being created that provide services to sailors: catering and hospitality, food and souvenir supplies. As a consequence, new jobs originate. Revenues of the local communities and the municipal budgets are growing. There are also many other social advantages, difficult to quantify. Investments in tourism infrastructure are financially unprofitable for their beneficiaries, i.e. public entities; however, they generate net benefits for the local communities.

This article is part of a wider research study about sporting habits which was carried out with young people between 10 and 16 years old from Majorca Island. In this paper we are analyzing what is the profile of Majorcan young athletes by gender, socio-demographic and sport level. A sample of 4301 boys and girls from Majorca were surveyed. The sample was obtained from multistage sampling. A specifically designed questionnaire was used. The results obtained in this study confirm a clear regression in physical activity to increment age of males and females. Also noteworthy are the clearly significant differences between men and women in this age group in terms of sports, frequency, and type of sport practiced. The practicing of sport by parents promotes a greater participation in children. Also, gender marks some differences in relation to the practice of sports in these ages.

The specific objective of the paper is to discuss the mutual relations between tourism and sport and, in a wider context, to draw the reader’s attention to the potentially excessive range of research goals in tourism as a discipline. Within the scope of discussion, the author looks at tourism as a social activity and a conceptual and research subject. Research questions, the signposts of intellectual debate, come down to whether tourism shares any common areas with sport (in its widest sense). If so, is such activity still tourism activity? Or perhaps these types of ‘sport-tourist’ activities should be excluded from discussion on tourism as an academic discipline because of their non-tourist character? The author assumes that there is an exploratory and cognitive zone between these two areas of social activity, going beyond both tourism and sport. Tourist activity and sport activity in fact differ from each other.

The rapid civilisational development that took place in the second half of the 20th century, and the resulting changes in the conditions and ways of people’s lives brought forth a number of social phenomena, both positive and negative. Physical activities, i.e. any forms of physical effort undertaken voluntarily in leisure time for entertainment and health purposes, contribute greatly to overcoming the dangers of modern civilization. Among these, activities with the participation of a dog are becoming increasingly popular. These activities are exercised by people of all ages in the form of dog sports, as well as for recreational and therapeutic purposes. The aim of the paper is to present various forms of activities with a dog as modern types of physical recreation exercised by people of all ages. Regular exercise with a dog greatly improves the well-being and provides a feeling of harmony and inner peace. It is becoming yet another modern form of activity.

This paper analyses the frequency and extent of physical activity (PA) among school-aged children and adolescents in Liechtenstein by regarding selected socio-demographic factors (gender, age and parents’ sports activity). The cross-sectional study is based on an online survey conducted in 2015 among 11-, 13- and 15-year-old pupils (N = 448). According to our findings, children and adolescents do sports in their leisure time 3 ½ days a week, resulting in 6 hours per week on average; the percentage of pupils who do not participate in any sport is less than 5 % in total. Despite high sport participation, only a quarter achieved the WHO recommendation of at least 60 min of moderate-tovigorous physical activity (MVPA) per day. However, a significant decrease in physical and sport activities together with increasing resignation from sport clubs is shown in secondary schools. As a result of this inadequacy, at the end of the compulsory school period, adolescents should be considered as one of the important target groups for health promotion programs. In addition, the relation discovered between the activity level of adolescents and the sport status of their parents emphasizes the high relevance of parents for their childrens’ PA socialisation.

Cel badań. Celem badań było poznanie zależności pomiędzy środowiskiem rodzinnym a poziomem aktywności fizycznej dzieci. Materiały i metody. Badaniom poddano 191 osób (65 dzieci, 65 matek oraz 61 ojców). Dzieci należały do grupy osób aktywnych fizycznie, natomiast wśród rodziców znalazły się osoby zarówno aktywne, jak i nieaktywne fizycznie. W badaniach wykorzystano Kwestionariusz KŚRS do oceny środowiska rodzinnego, Kwestionariusz IPAQ do oceny poziomu aktywności fizycznej oraz ankiety własnej konstrukcji. Wyniki. Wnioski. Poziom aktywności fizycznej dzieci związany jest z różnorodnymi czynnikami środowiska rodzinnego (np. poprawnymi relacjami interpersonalnymi w rodzinie, tradycjami).

The group of respondents consisted of 191 people (65 children, 65 mothers, and 61 fathers). The examined children belonged to the group of physically active people, while the parents were active or inactive physically. In the research, the KŚRS questionnaire for athletes’ family environment evaluation, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and an own questionnaire were applied. Results. Good interpersonal relations in the family turned out the main family environment predictor of the level of physical activity among children. The analysis concerning gender differences in the context of physical activity showed that boys more often than girls presented high-intensity activity. Also, discrepancies were observed between the parents and children regarding the forms of activity, as well as motives and ways of encouragement. Conclusions. The results of research showed that the level of children’s physical activity was connected with a variety of factors of the family environment (e.g. good interpersonal relations in the family, traditions).

Opis:
Physical activity is of great importance for physical and mental health of the society. Both in Norway and in Poland, responsibility for actions in the field of physical activity largely rests at the lowest level of the administration structure - municipal governments. The aim of this study was to determine the declared level of physical activity of surveyed groups from two different countries and factors influencing it. Focus was put on local sports and recreation infrastructure in research regions. The research process was based on diagnostic survey method, but it also involved analysis of documents, subject literature and existing statistical data. The research was carried out in local municipalities in two regions: Inner Sogn in Norway (8 municipalities) and Kalisz county in Poland (11 municipalities) and included surveys collected from in total 760 adult respondents, as well as interviews with representants of all 19 local governments who work in the field of physical activity. Results show that among respondents from Norway the physical activity level is 2 times higher than among respondents from Poland. It is also proven that Norwegians use sports and recreation infrastructure more often and they evaluate it much better than Poles. What is more, in both groups, those persons who use infrastructure have significantly higher physical activity level. A conclusion can be presented that the local governments, especially in Poland, should pay more attention to the offer of sports and recreation infrastructure, because that will make inhabitants more satisfied with it and use it more. This in consequence, will positively influence their level of physical activity. It is important to note that there are also other factors strongly influencing people's physical activity, such as internal and external motivation and attractiveness of the area. That is why research on factors influencing physical activity needs to be continued.

Physical activity is one of the important pillars helping to maintain well-being and health. The aim of the article was to try to identify the directions of changes in students' attitudes towards physical activity between 2015 and 2023, including the aspect of monitoring movement and exercise using modern technologies. The article presents research conducted on a group of 180 students of physical education and tourism and recreation. The declared physical activity of the students was analysed, along with the need to monitor movement using electronic devices. A shortened version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used as the research tool. The questionnaire was modified by adding questions on monitoring physical activity. Analysis of the results shows that the declared physical activity has changed over the analysed time period.
