Opis:
One of the key elements of the real-time C 1 -continuous cubic spline interpolation of streaming data is an estimator of the first derivative of the interpolated function that is more accurate than those based on finite difference schemas. Two such greedy look-ahead heuristic estimators, based on the calculus of variations (denoted as MinBE and MinAJ2), are formally defined (in closed form), along with the corresponding cubic splines that they generate. They are then comparatively evaluated in a series of numerical experiments involving different types of performance measures. The presented results show that the cubic Hermite splines generated by heuristic MinAJ2 significantly outperformed those that were based on finite difference schemas in terms of all of the tested performance measures (including convergence). The proposed approach is quite general. It can be directly applied to streams of univariate functional data like time-series. Multi-dimensional curves that are defined parametrically (after splitting) can be handled as well. The streaming character of the algorithm means that it can also be useful in processing data sets that are too large to fit in the memory (e.g., edge computing devices, embedded time-series databases).

Opis:
This study discusses the application of two types of cubic spline, namely natural cubic spline and not-a-knotcubic spline. The applications of both types of splines are regarding rainfall data. The rainfall data studied were the monthly rainfall data for the year 2018 and 2019 in Bandung City which was obtained from the Bandung City Central Statistics Agency. Interpolation and analysis were carried out on all data using Maple software. As a result, interpolation using natural cubic spline and not-a-knotcubic spline shows a smoother and less oscillating graph than interpolation using Piecewise Linear and Polynomial Interpolation.

The article explores the possibility of using the authors’ three new methods of unconventional extrusion of deep hollows to be used for the manufacture of spline sleeves intended for internal toothing couplings. Two invention patents, PL206466 and PL224121, and one patent application, P.416772, were used for this purpose. Numerical computations were made in the Forge®3D program for the conceptual schemes of forming sleeves. The aim of those computations was to determine the extrusion forces and to compare them with the conventional indirect and direct extrusion methods. Then, on models based on the authors’ plastic forming schemes, numerical computations were made, from which the actual energy and force parameters were determined in the form of the relationship of extrusion force versus forming tool path. Also, the degree of fill of the passes, in which spline sleeve toothing is formed, was determined.

Wavelets are becoming increasingly used as a tool for the analysis of non-stationary data. To transmit the coefficients resulting from the signal decomposition traditionally their combination into a single data packet is used, without including unequal energy contribution of each factor and impact of the decomposition level. This paper analyzes (at different transmission speeds) the signals properties produced by classical modulation methods and spline modulation for wavelet coefficients transmission proposed by the author. For all signal types the additive Gaussian noise is used as a noise disturbance.

Opis:
The process of railway track adjustment is a task which includes bringing, in geometrical terms, the actual track axis to the position ensuring safe and efficient traffic of rail vehicles. The initial calculation stage of this process is to determine approximately the limits of sections of different geometry, i.e. straight lines, arcs and transition curves. This allows to draw up a draft alignment design, which is subject to control the position relative to the current state. In practice, this type of a project rarely meets the requirements associated with the values of corrective alignments. Therefore, it becomes necessary to apply iterated correction of a solution in order to determine the final project, allowing to introduce minor corrections while maintaining the assumed parameters of the route. The degree of complexity of this process is defined by the quality of determining a preliminary draft alignment design. Delimitation of the sections for creation of creating such a design, is usually done by using the curvature diagram (InRail v8.7 Reference Guide [1], Jamka et al [2], Strach [3]), which is, however, sensitive to the misalignment of the track and measurement errors. In their paper Lenda and Strach [4] proposed a new method for creating curvature diagram, based on approximating spline function, theoretically allowing, inter alia, to reduce vulnerability to interference factors. In this study, the method to determine a preliminary draft alignment design for the track with severe overexploitation was used, and thus in the conditions adversely affecting the accuracy of the conducted readings. The results were compared to the ones obtained using classical curvature diagram. The obtained results indicate that the method allows to increase the readability of a curvature graph, which at considerable deregulation of a track takes an irregular shape, difficult to interpret. The method also favourably affects the accuracy of determining the initial parameters of the project, reducing the entire process of calculation.

Opis:
Inversion of band matrices is the simplest, direct way of computing interpolating splines. On the other hand, when studying the convergence problems, the bounds of related inverse matrices are useful. This paper contains algorithms of inversion, based on LR decomposition, of tri- and five-diagonal matrices appearing in spline fitting problems. (In this case LR decomposition is possible and unique if one of the diagonals is fixed.) For example, inversion of a tri-diagonal matrix of dimension n requires 12n(3n+5) multiplications when the proposed algorithm is used. Some upper and lower bounds for elements of the inverse matrix are also given. Under certain additional assumptions the numerical stability is proved. MR0488663

Opis:
Estimates from confidence intervals are more powerful than point estimates, because there are intervals for parameter values used to estimate populations. In relation to global conditions, involving issues such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, it is very difficult to make estimations limited to one point only. Therefore, in this article, we estimate confidence intervals in a truncated spline model for type 2 diabetes data. We use a non-parametric regression model through a multi-variable spline linear estimator. The use of the model results from the irregularity of the data, so it does not form a parametric pattern. Subsequently, we obtained the interval from beta parameter values for each predictor. Body mass index, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides all have two regression coefficients at different intervals as the number of the found optimal knot points is one. This value is the interval for multivariable spline regression coefficients that can occur in a population of type 2 diabetes patients.

Wavelet transform algorithms (Mallat’s algorithm, a trous algorithm) require input data in the form of a sequence of numbers equal to the signal projection coefficients on a space spanned by integer-translated copies of a scaling function. After sampling of the continuous-time signal, it is most frequently possible to compute only approximated values of the signal projection coefficients by choosing a specific signal approximation. Calculation of the signal projection coefficients based on the signal interpolation by means of cubic B-splines is proposed in the paper.

Opis:
The form, waviness and roughness components of a measured profile are separated by means of digital filters. The aim of analysis was to develop an algorithm for one-dimensional filtering of profiles using approximation by means of B-splines. The theory of B-spline functions introduced by Schoenberg and extended by Unser et al. was used. Unlike the spline filter proposed by Krystek, which is described in ISO standards, the algorithm does not take into account the bending energy of a filtered profile in the functional whose minimization is the principle of the filter. Appropriate smoothness of a filtered profile is achieved by selecting an appropriate distance between nodes of the spline function. In this paper, we determine the Fourier transforms of the filter impulse response at different impulse positions, with respect to the nodes. We show that the filter cutoff length is equal to half of the node-to-node distance. The inclination of the filter frequency characteristic in the transition band can be adjusted by selecting an appropriate degree of the B-spline function. The paper includes examples of separation of 2D roughness, as well as separation of form and waviness of roundness profiles.

In 1870 G. Cantor proved that if $lim_{N \to \infty} \Sigma_{n=-N}^{N}c_{n}e^{i n x} = 0, \overline{c}_{n} = c_{n}$, then $c_{n} = 0$ for $n \in \mathbb{Z}$. In 2004 G. Gevorkyan raised the issue that if Cantor’s result extends to the Franklin system. He solved this conjecture in 2015. In 2014 Z. Wronicz proved that there exists a Franklin series for which a subsequence of its partial sums converges to zero, where not all coefficients of the series are zero. In the present paper we show that to the uniqueness of the Franklin system $\Sigma_{n=0}^{\infty} a_{n}f_{n}$ it suffices to prove the convergence its subsequence $s_{2^{n}}$ to zero by the condition $a_{n} = o(\sqrt{n})$. It is a solution of the Gevorkyan problem formulated in 2016.
