Opis:
During flow of water from upstream to downstream in a controlled manner, the flow of water at high velocity and pressure, which occurs as a result of hydraulic jump is broken by energy dissipation structures in relief or accumulation structures. Otherwise, the flow of water with high velocity and pressure in the downstream section, where the stream passes from a flood regime to a river regime, will damage its own structure and surrounding environment. For this reason, it is necessary to design energy-dissipating structures at appropriate locations with appropriate sections so that large pressure and friction forces do not cause abrasion and erosion in flow chamber. In this study, flow characteristics such as pressure distribution, outlet flow, velocity distribution etc. of the water flowing from a dam infill located in Adrasan town of Antalya province was determined. Then, dam spillway was modelled in the computer environment with the actual measurements and analyzed according to Computational Fluid Dynamics method (CFD) using ANSYS-Fluent software. Finally, the actual measurements were compared with the simulation results. Additionally, measured data were compared with the downstream flow characteristic by defining to dam and spillway projecting software of General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (pro-SHW). As a result, the current dam spillway values are similar to the simulation values. It is clear that the CFD method provides the convenience of users and institutions in sizing and calculating the flow characteristic before projecting large fixed constructions which has high cost.

Opis:
The article showed the result of investigation of the length of hydraulic jump in trapezoidal channel. In this study, the basic factors that affect the length (Lj) and roller length (Lr) of hydraulic jump were investigated by physical trapezoidal channel’s model. The experiment carried out in purpose to establish a new empirical equation for calculating the roller length (Lr) of the jump in the horizontal trapezoidal channel with the upstream flow Froude number 4.0 to 9.0 (the steady jump). The hydraulic characteristics of forced jump were measured and statistically calculated by excel software. The results of data analysis showed that the MAPE was relatively small (< 5%), and R2 > 0.9 (strong correlation between predicted and observed values) and other statistical indicators are less than 0.1 (MSE = 0.004, RMSE = 0.062 và MEA = 0.047). Therefore, the equation found could be appropriated and applied to calculate characteristics of hydraulic jump trapezoidal channel.

A study of scour downstream of free hydraulic jump in stilling basin of stepped spillways was carried out. This paper employed an experimental study to investigate the stepped spillway with the movable bed material of D50= 3.1 mm. The effect of the contraction ratio of the stepped spillway was highlighted. Different downstream divergent angle was studied to minimise the scour depth, the results showed that the relative scour depth was reduced by 23% for divergent angle is equal to 170°, different shapes of buffer in stilling basin were also studied to reduce the scour depth where the considered buffer decrease the relative scour depth up to 84%. This study was simulated by Flow 3D program to analyse the scour hole formed using velocity vectors at the bed. The simulated results well agreed with the measured data.

Opis:
When designing dam spillway structures, the most significant consideration is the energy dissipation arrangements. Different varieties of baffle blocks and stilling basins have been used in this context. However, the hydraulic jump form of stilling basin is considered to be the most suitable. The main objective of this research was to introduce four different baffle block shapes (models arranged from A to D, installed at slopes 0.00, 0.04, 0.06 and 0.08 in the stilling basins). To illustrate the consequences for the qualities of pressure-driven bounce, each model was attempted in the bowl. The trials applied Froude numbers between 6.5 and 9.2. The puzzle square model D provided the best outcomes compared to the models A, B, C and smooth. Model D with different models at inclines 0.00, 0.04, 0.06 and 0.08 was used to consider the impacts of perplex hinders on water driven-bounce when bed slants were changed. When the model D baffle used instead of a smooth bed at 0.08 slope, the reduction in y2 / y1 reached 12.8%, and Lj / y1 was 18.9%. Among the different bed slopes, a normal decrease in y2 / y1 ranged from approximately 10.3%, whereas the normal decrease in Lj / y1 was about 13.8% when the model D baffle was used instead of the model A baffle with a horizontal slope bed of 0.00. The results show that the new shapes led to a decrease in sequent profundity proportion and length of jump proportion; however, the energy dissipation proportion increased.

Opis:
Potentially hazardous side-channels of complex geometry need to be investigated using detailed hydraulic physical models. This study aims to analyse the cross-waves pattern and pulsating flow using a side-channel spillway physical model. This study compares the cross-waves pattern were measured using an experimental installation set to generate cross-waves on the surface (original series) with another structure that did not produce cross-waves (modified series). The results showed that the geometry of the left wall caused instability in flow patterns and secondary flows. The starting point of Q2 discharge was detected by minor turbulence on the water surface near the left wall at a water depth of 3.3 m at the starting point of the wall, but with no overtopping. Cross-waves formed downstream at the right wall crosswise, lower than at the left wall. The height of the cross-wave increased substantially from Q100 to Q1000 discharges leading to overtoppings near the left wall at a water depths of 4.2 and 5.0 m at the starting point of the wall, and near the right wall at a water depths of 3.8 and 4.0 m at the upstream point of the wall. The modifications provided optimal hydraulic conditions, i.e. elimination of cross-waves and non-uniform flows. The Vedernikov and Montouri numbers showed that both original and modified series did not enter the area where the pulsating flow occurred. This indicated that both series were free from the pulsating flow.

Opis:
Because of hydraulic jump, the scour downstream a stepped spillway is the most confusing issue that endangers the overall stability of the spillway. In this paper, thirty-six exploratory runs are described to explore the impact of utilizing submerged water jets fixed in the stilling basin of a stepped spillway on the downstream scour measurements under various flow conditions. A smooth apron where the water jets are disabled is incorporated to characterize the impact of adjustments studied. Trials are performed utilizing different upstream discharges, jets arrangements, and tailwater depths. The results are analyzed and graphically presented. The experimental data are contrasted to a scour formulae developed by other specialists. Outcomes indicated that by utilizing submerged floor water jets, the maximum scour depth is decreased between 14.3 and 36.0%. Additionally, the maximum scour length is reduced by 9.7 to 42.3%. Finally, involving regression analysis, simple formulas are developed to estimate different scour parameters.

Opis:
Stepped spillway is hydraulic structure designed to dissipate the excess in kinetic energy at the downstream of dams and can reduce the size of stilling basin at the toe of the spillway or chute. The flow on a stepped spillway is characterised by the large aeration that can prevent or reduce the cavitation damage. The air entrainment starts where the boundary layer attains the free surface of flow; this point is called “point of inception”. Within this work the inception point is determined by using software Ansys Fluent where the volume of fluid (VOF) model is used as a tool to track the free surface thereby the turbulence closure is derived in the k – ε turbulence standard model. This research aims to find new formulas for describe the variation of water depth at step edge and the positions of the inception point, at the same time the contour map of velocity, turbulent kinetic energy and strain rate are presented. The found numerical results agree well with experimental results like the values of computed and measured water depth at the inception point and the numerical and experimental inception point locations. Also, the dimensionless water depth profile obtained by numerical method agrees well with that of measurement. This study confirmed that the Ansys Fluent is a robust software for simulating air entrainment and exploring more characteristics of flow over stepped spillways.
Przedstawiono obliczone rozkłady prędkości, turbulentnej energii kinetycznej i naprężeń. Uzyskane wyniki obliczeń są zgodne z wynikami badań eksperymentalnych.

Opis:
The article analyses the southern part of the expansion of the Bzura-Ner Spillway (Bzura-Ner Pradolina), called the Koło Basin as well as neighbouring areas of the Łask Upland Plain and the Turek Upland Plain. The purpose of the study was to present the role of Pleistocene glaciations, especially the Warta Glaciation and, in particular, their role in the evolution of land relief in this area. It was noted that morphological activity of continental glaciers depended on morphology, lithology and dynamics of the bedrock. Special attention was paid to effects characteristic of the transgression and disappearance of the Warta ice sheet. A survey of geological and geomorphological literature, analyses of archival data, mainly the accounts of geological drillings as well as results of geomorphological and palaeogeomorphological research constitute the basis for the presented data and views. It was found that successive continental glaciers had reduced height differences of the Pleistocene bedrock without obliterating the main forms in the area. Despite the genetic diversity of forms, postglacial forms and sediments – which emerged during the glaciation of the Warta (the last glaciation in this area) – play a predominant part in the described area. The features of glacial tills and fluvioglacial and limnoglacial sediments which form Wartian mounds, hills, and ridges prove that at the end of the Warta glaciation, during deglaciation (in the Bzura sub-phase), the dynamics of glacial processes was intensified. Accumulation of ice in the lower part of the current Koło Basin was conducive to increased dynamics of the ice lobe through oscillations and, possibly, through glacial surges. However, activity of the ice sheet edge has been blurred as a result of areal deglaciation, which is documented by numerous kames – the most widespread convex glacial forms in the area.
