    In this study an attempt is made to investigate the characteristics of road traffic accidents on the Rajshahi-Sirajganj Highway in Bangladesh. For detail investigation, the highway was divided into three major sections as Section-I: Bonpara intersection to Parkol, Section-II: Parkol to Nayabazar and Section-III: Nayabazar to Toll Plaza. Road accident related data on selected highway for different years were collected from Bonpara Highway police station, Jholmoliya Highway Police Station and Fire Service and Civil Defense Station at Natore from year 2008 to 2015. From the investigation, it is found that the total numbers of accidents in Rajshahi - Sirajganj highway (Bonpara intersection to Atrai toll plaza) were 210 within year 2008 to year 2015; the number of fatalities, grievous injury and minor injury were 246, 231 & 265 respectively. It is also found that the maximum numbers of accidents (22%) occurred within 12 AM to 15 PM. Truck was the most involved vehicle in the road accident which is 39% of the total number of vehicles whereas, bus involved is 21% road accidents. From the year 2014 to 2015 there were 30% head on collisions, 34% rear end collisions, 29% hit pedestrians and 7% overturning occurred. A 3D model of Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway is proposed in this study, where the selected highway is developed into four lanes and the movements of fast moving vehicles are kept uninterrupted by providing a grade separated intersection.

    For centuries, it is known that people always prefer to accommodate in the region where there is good transportation network. Proper organization of transportation is one of the key elements which influence the dynamics of the World economics system development. Thanks to infrastructure modernization which allows to transfer the goods between engaged parties, it is possible to increase production and commonly to intense exploitation of areas located near this infrastructure among others in industry purposes. With regard to increasing demand for effective and efficient transportation system, there is a real need to improve communication and transportation infrastructure. A chance for this target shall be modern high technologies, which allows running with very high speed and thus also to reduce journey time. For this purpose there were established and is still developing relatively new product – high speed rail which is supposed to revolutionize modern transportation system functioning in the World. The article calls attention on a chance for improving competitiveness of rail freight transportation in Poland thanks to developing high speed rail network. There is underlined also rationality of modernization of the rail line which connect the biggest cities in South part of Poland. The descriptive part of the article refers to the high speed rail system and its development conditions. The research part is a technical feasibility study about section Cracow – Katowice – Wroclaw and possibilities for adopting it to achieve high speed rail line parameters.

    W artykule przedstawiono wyniki dotychczasowych badań na sieci PKP PLK S.A. rozjazdów przeznaczonych do dużych prędkości. Artykuł stanowi podsumowanie dorobku naukowego byłych i obecnych pracowników Instytutu Kolejnictwa (dawniej CNTK), w zakresie badań takich rozjazdów. Zaprezentowano również prace, jakie należy wykonać w celu oceny zgodności rozjazdów na podstawie Dyrektywy 2008/57/WE oraz scharakteryzowano nowe konstrukcje rozjazdów przeznaczonych do badań.
    The paper presents the results of tests the Railway Institute has done so far on high speed switches in the PKP SLK S. A. network. This is a summary of scientific output of the former and the present research workers of the Railway Institute (formerly the CNTK) in the field of high speed switch testing. Work that is required to evaluate the compatibility of switches according to Directive 2008/57/WE is presented, as well as the newly designed switches to be tested are characterized.

    Opis:
    Ogłoszone przez zamawiającego zamówienie na studium wykonalności dotyczy projektu nowobudowanej linii kolejowej o długości ok. 470 km. Związane z tą inwestycją m.in. zagadnienia trasowania linii w terenie i jej oddziaływanie na środowisko o tak dużej skali nie były przedmiotem analiz u Zamawiającego. Z tego względu Zamawiający podjął decyzję o ogłoszeniu zamówienia w trybie dialogu konkurencyjnego. Realizacja studium wykonalności pokazała zasadność tego wyboru. W dziedzinie dotyczącej geodezji i kartografii zastosowano najnowocześniejsze zdobycze techniki, które umożliwiły opracowanie dokumentacji środowiskowej i trasowania zgodnie z harmonogramem realizacji studium wykonalności.
    The order for feasibility study concerns the project of new-built railway line of 470 km length was announced by the Orderer. Some problems related to the order like: line tracing in the ground and environmental impact assessment of such a large scale project have not been the subject of the analysis by the Orderer. Because of that the Orderer took a decision to announce the invitation to order under the competitive dialog mode. The feasibility study realization shows the legitimacy of such a choice. In the field of geodesy and cartography the most modern technic achievements have been applied and they allow to elaborate the environmental and tracing documentation according to the schedule of the feasibility study realization.
