Opis:
Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) has been used since last over two decades as a measure of performance in manufacturing industries. Unfortunately, enough, application of OEE in mining and excavation industry has not been duly adopted. In this paper an effort has been made to identify the OEE for performance evaluation of Bucket based Excavating, Loading and Transport (BELT) equipment. The conceptual model of OEE, as used in the manufacturing industries, has been revised to adapt to the BELT equipment. The revised and adapted model considered the operational time, speed and bucket capacity utilization losses as the key OEE components for evaluating the performance of BELT equipment. To illustrate the efficacy of the devised model on real-time basis, a case study was undertaken on the biggest single bucket excavating equipment – the dragline, in a large surface coal mine. One-year data was collected in order to evaluate the proposed OEE model.
Model koncepcyjny podejścia całościowej oceny stosowany dotychczas w przemyśle wytwórczym został zaadaptowany by uwzględniać specyfikę systemów urabiania, ładowania i transportu. Odpowiednio zmodyfikowany model uwzględnia czas pracy układu, tempo pracy, spadek ładowności koparki i spowodowane w ten sposób straty, umożliwiając dokonanie całościowej oceny wydajności pracy systemu. Poprawność opracowanego modelu działającego w czasie rzeczywistym zbadano na przykładzie systemu do urabiania, załadunku i transportu wykorzystywanego w dużej kopalni odkrywkowej węgla. Do oceny poprawności modelu wykorzystano zebrane dane obejmujące cały rok pracy urządzeń.

Opis:
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the influence of day and night meteorological parameters (air temperatures and dew points, relative humidity, wind speed and precipitation) on the radial growth of pine latewood in northern taiga, in typical conditions of its growth. The study was conducted in the north of the Arkhangelsk region (Russia). A total of 63 cores were selected from seven most representative sites. Meteorological parameters were obtained from the WMR 918 H digital weather station (Huger GmbH, Germany), located directly on the study area and operating in monitoring mode. The analysis used meteorological data for the period 2008–2015. Correlation with night and day air temperature in June and July (0.72–0.77) was revealed in blueberry type. In all the stands studied, a reliable correlation with wind speed was established, direct (0.77‒0.88) and inverse (−0.7 to −0.99), but each sample plot had an individual dependence. A reliable correlation with the humidity of August and September (0.64–0.87) and an inverse correlation with precipitation in May and August (−0.63 to −0.75) were established. In general, pine in blueberry, cowberry and pine on swamp types have a similar reaction to the variability of meteorological factors, the most important of which is the temperature regime of air and wind speed.

Opis:
The purpose and scope of this article is to present the best marine practices used to determine the ship’s domain depth (compared to the safety depth parameter in ECDIS) and the safest and best possible speed (also known as optimal speed) of the ship in restricted sea areas limited by the depth of navigation waters. The author also presents a method that can be used to estimate the safe speed of a ship in shallow waters and the so-called navigational risk factor (specified in the range from 0 to 1), using the safety depth parameter specified in ECDIS based on the analysis of a three-dimensional model of the ship’s domain. The essence of the method proposed in this paper is a systematic approach to the operation of a seagoing ship in the aspect of assessing its navigation safety (navigational risk factor) when manoeuvring in restricted sea areas, in particular in shallow waters including navigable canals and fairways.

Opis:
In the article we provide the new design of pneumatic sowing machine with peripheral cells on the seed disk and a passive device for removing extra seeds with inertia method for precise seeding of cultivated crops. A series of studies was proposed for sugar beet seeds sowing device, we defined the influence of dilution in a vacuum chamber of sowing device and angular velocity cell seed disk on the cells filling factor. The design of the new pneumatic sowing machine can significantly reduce the vacuum in the system having increased the angular speed in cell seed disk to the values of seeding device travelling speed, thus provide a constant point of seeds drop from the seed disc at the same trajectory of their flight to the furrows and the qualitative cells filling. To determine the rational parameters and modes of sowing device we used method of multifactor experiment planning. We determined the main levels and intervals of varying factors for sugar beet sowing along with determining the filling factor of cell seed disk. With application of package Statistica 6.0. for parameter optimization - cell seed disk filling factor was constructed response surface and line of even output.

Opis:
Due to environmental, energy, and operating cost constraints, the number of liquefied natural gas (LNG)–powered ships is increasing. To avoid decreasing the thermal efficiency of two-stroke, low-speed diesel engines, high-pressure gas injection is used. The specific energy consumption of a gas fuel compressor is around 0.35 kWh/kg, which has a negative impact on the efficiency of ship power plants. To reduce the primary energy consumption of a gas fuel supply system, waste heat recovery (WHR) technologies may be used. This study investigated whether WHR metal hydride technology was suitable for improving the efficiency of low-grade heat waste in marine diesel engines. The key factors of this technology were revealed, and the design scheme was described. Working fluids were also analyzed, and a mathematical model of a WHR metal hydride plant was developed, and the results were represented. The calculations showed that the above technology could increase the operating power of a propulsion plant by 5.7–6.2%. The results demonstrate the possibility of applying WHR metal hydride equipment for gas fuel compressor drives in LNG-powered ships. The novelty of this study lies in the investigation of metal hydride technology for application in the waste heat recovery systems of LNG-powered ships.

Opis:
Galloping instability relating to cross-wind vibrations can be found in flexible and lightly damped structures. In the present paper, the reliability of a thin-walled steel beam in maintaining its galloping stability was examined using a probabilistic approach. The analysis considered random variation in the cross-sectional geometrical properties of the beam, the material elastic modulus, the structural damping and the wind speed. A large number of Monte Carlo simulations were performed with normal and Gumbel distributions applied to the random variables to determine the probability distribution function of the safety margin. The limit state is considered violated when the wind speed exceeds the onset wind velocity of galloping, resulting in the aerodynamic damping being greater than the structural damping. It was shown by a conventional codified safety factor method that the beam was robust enough for galloping stability. By contrast, the probability-based assessment revealed that the beam failed to achieve the target reliability index in case the coefficient of variation of wind speed was greater than 5%. The analysis results suggested that the code-satisfied slenderness of the beam should be reduced by a factor of 1.5-1.7 under the action of wind speed with a coefficient of variation in the range 30-40%.
