Joachim of Fiore
Opis:
In one of his main works, Concordia Novi ac Veteris Testamenti, Joachim of Fiore (1135-1202) interprets the story of the biblical Lot, shown in chapter 19 of Genesis. Using in practice the method of compliance (concordia) of the Old and New Testaments and an extensive theory of biblical meanings, he sees in the degenerated inhabitants of Sodom the announcement of medieval dialects. The negative attitude of the Abbot of Fiore (Calabrian Abbot) to speculative theology results from his apocalyptic vision of history, in which the key role is played by spiritual men (viri spiritales), who herald the Holy Spirit era. According to Joachim of Fiore, self-confi dent and self-based dialectics are destructive, diverting attention from the coming apocalypse. Stuck in a letter, they do not achieve the spiritual understanding (intelligentia spiritualis) of the Bible and prevent others from doing so. The interpretation of Lot’s story by Joachim of Fiore reveals the twelfth-century intellectual climate as monastic theology gradually gives way to scholasticism practiced in cities.

Opis:
Famous article of Tischner “The Decline of Christianity Thomist”, published on pages of the monthly the “Znak” in 1970 evoked the wave of interesting polemics in the Polish philosophical environment. They concerned on one hand the role of the Thomism in contemporary theology, on the other the criticism of the position of Tischner. Very author responded to a challenge criticizing the Thomism as the synthesis of data of the Revelation and Aristotelian philosophy. Because this merger is seizing character of both above ingredients – compared to two colours mixt with oneself and in the end constituting the new colour. Thomistic synthesis, from Tischner’s perspective, came into existence in the crowning moment of the history of the Christianity in Europe. She agreed on contemporary models of the scientific nature, culture, forms of the statehood. However in our times dangerous of it is a result uniquely thomistic “becoming poor” not to say “perversion” Christianities. And so in our times would the new synthesis be desired? Through the division of the learning, took the place of universal syntheses different “microsystems”, and very idea of the synthesis turned out to be too ambiguous, and for her conditions are impossible to fulfil. Valuable however rapidly of Tischner there would be rather a hermeneutic proposal of Paul of Ricoeur indeed to concentrate on the text of the christian revelation without the thomistic dogmatism here. Hence also, however dusk of the Thomism is opening intriguing and the philosophical latest perspectives for the Christianity.

Opis:
Artykuł jest prezentacją najważniejszych rysów teologii apofatycznej Mistrza Eckharta, która jest mocno zakorzeniona w myśli Pseudo-Dionizego Areopagity. Autor ukazuje swoistą dialektykę poznawalności i niepoznawalności Boga, ilustrując to obficie przykładami z Eckhartowych Kazań. W tekście został poruszony także inny, niezwykle istotny problem, a mianowicie relacji zakorzenionej w neoplatonizmie henologicznej wizji rzeczywistości Eckharta do chrześcijańskiej nauki o Trójcy Świętej. Autor przytacza tu opinię Marie-Anne Vannier, że Eckhart jest „wirtuozem teologii trynitarnej”, ale dodaje, że zawsze pozostawia on tu miejsce dla przeżywania Tajemnicy.
The article is a presentation of the most important features of Meister Eckhart's apophatic theology that is firmly rooted in the thought of Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite. The author presents a kind of dialectic cognizability and uncognizability of God, illustrating this abundant examples of Eckhart's Sermons. In the text, another very important issue was also discussed, namely the relationship between Eckhart’s henological, rooted in Neo-Platonism, vision of reality and the Christian doctrine on the Trinity. The author has stated in the Marie-Anne Vannier's opinion, that Eckhart is a “Virtuoso of Trinitarian theology,” but adds that he always leaves a place to live the mystery.

Opis:
Philosophical forces gathered in late nineteenth and early twentieth century Catholic Modernism have crystallized into theological views which permeate the antinomian atmosphere in the Church today, resulting in an ongoing Catholic identity problem, both within the Church and in relation to the world. In place of the perennial philosophy and its contemplative ideal, many now welcome the incoherence of broad philosophical and theological pluralism, while pastoral practice is infused with the fruits of pragmatism and the rhetoric of false dichotomies (justice/mercy, intellectual/pastoral, tradition/living faith, speculative truth/charity, for example). To reverse this anti-intellectual course, rehabilitation of Aquinas’s positions on the primacy of the speculative order and contemplative charism, his integration of natural, revealed and mystical wisdoms, and his sense of objective worship, is needed. A brief account of the robust role of philosophy in the Church’s mission and of Gilson’s nuanced position on the encounter of Thomism and Modernism supports this assertion.

Opis:
The chief aim of this paper is to demonstrate beyond reasonable doubt how, through an essential misunderstanding of the nature of philosophy, and science, over the past several centuries, the prevailing Western tendency to reduce the whole of science to mathematical physics unwittingly generated utopian socialism as a political substitute for metaphysics. In short, being unable speculatively, philosophically, and metaphysically to justify this reduction, some Western intellectuals re-conceived the natures of philosophy, science, and metaphysics as increasingly enlightened, historical and political forms of the evolution of human consciousness toward creation of systematic science, a science of clear and distinct ideas. In the process they unwittingly wound up reducing contemporary philosophy and Western higher education largely into tools of utopian socialist political propaganda.
