The paper investigates the contemporary Russian historical military novel, which is seen as a highly popular speculative fiction genre of the 2010s. The author focuses on defining the boundaries of the local genre “Time Travelers to World War II”. The popularity of the genre seems to stem from increasing interest to the topic of World War II in the Russian public conscience of XXI century and a call for rethinking Russian and Soviet history and “correcting” historical errors. The author defines ideological and artistic boundaries of the genre, which is considered to have been formed as a merge of military speculative fiction, alternate history and the “time traveler” adventurous plot. Analysis of the evolution of the speculative fiction genres in the Russian literature of XIX-XXI centuries revealed the essential eclecticism and internal inconsistencies of the “Time Traveler to World War II” plot. Three main trends in the development of the local genre were identified. The heroic adventure trend focuses on depicting successful actions of a well-equipped and trained time traveler. The alternative history trend represents possibilities of changing the course of the war through a single person’s efforts. The war history trend aims at providing, as far as possible, an objective description of the war.

The paper aims at investigating the demonstration of Russian intuition in the contemporary Russian speculative fiction. The research thesis is that the Russians, both presented in literature and within the frames of the national character studies, manifest themselves as the intuitive introvert type according to Carl Gustav Jung’s classification. For validating the thesis, as far as the proposed literary works are concerned, one should use the instruments offered by cultural literary criticism along with the support of non-literary disciplines, such as intercultural communication and ethnopsychology. Moreover, one should consider also notes on Russian national character taken by Jung himself as well as studies on the sociocultural aspect of the analysed works. A wide range of methods and perspectives allows deep research of the “feeling – intuitive” Jungian scale as manifested within literary characters representing the Russian element (also called Russianness) in the selected works, which belong to the most significant and/or popular pieces of contemporary speculative fiction in Russia.

The schoolmen of the Middle Ages inherited from Classical Antiquity an established grammatical tradition, but the infiltration of dialectic and the incorporation of logic of Aristotle into the schools gave renewed vigor to the study of grammar which became an exact scientific discipline. In the Middle Ages, grammar – in combination with logic – came to be the means of expressing the world of reality as established by the metaphysician. The transformation of grammar from its association with literature into a speculative, theoretical discipline culminated in a series of treatises concerning the modes of signifying (modi significandi) which formulated the different properties of words and the ways in which they could be used. These were in effect treatises on grammar constructed on universal laws of meaning. They were, however, something much more than taxonomic grammars and must be viewed, by virtue of the intimacy between language and meaning, in terms of their contributions to mediaeval semiotics. The symbolism used by speculative grammars was essentially linguistic and implied a necessary close relation between the study of grammar and the study of the sign. The authors of mediaeval treatises on the modi significandi (often entitled De modis significandi, or Summa grammatica, or Summa modorum significandi, or Grammatica speculativa) have come to be known as the Modistae who taught in the late Sixties of the 13th till the Thirties of the 14th centuries. The present study is an account of the grammatical theories of this group of mediaeval scholars (mostly the work of Thomas of Erfurt), set in the appropriate context of situation and seen in terms of the part they played in mediaeval semiotic theory, since their theory rests on the study of words and the properties of these words as signs of things. At the end of the present study the influence of the speculative grammar on present linguistic theories is announced. Some influence of the speculative grammar one could discover in many contemporary linguistic theories like those of Noam Chomsky, Ronald Langacker, Robin Lakoff and even Ray Jackendoff.

Narzędzia polityki gospodarczej generują różnorakie skutki – nie tylko te pożądane i łatwo dostrzegalne. Dlatego zwłaszcza w przypadku Polski, gospodarki nadrabiającej dystans rozwojowy do państw Zachodu, ważne są umiejętności analitycznego myślenia i korzystanie z doświadczeń nie tylko własnej polityki gospodarczej, by nie popełniać błędów, których można było uniknąć, i zapobiec tym samym obniżeniu bezpieczeństwa finansowego polskiego społeczeństwa i pogorszeniu poziomu jego życia w nadchodzących dekadach. NBP, utrzymując zbyt długo zbyt niskie stopy procentowe, wzmaga nie tylko presję inflacyjną w Polsce, ale również przyczynia się do pogłębiania problemu nadmiernego zadłużenia (nie tylko) gospodarstw domowych w Polsce w relacji do poziomu zamożności i zdolności kredytowej. Obniża tym samym bezpieczeństwo finansowe Polski i Polaków. Dlatego tak istotne jest, by bank centralny w XXI w., zgodnie z opiniami rosnącej liczby ekspertów, zapewniał szerzej rozumianą stabilność finansową – a nie pilnował jedynie inflacji – i przeciwdziałał nierównowagom finansowym.
Economic policy tools generate various effects – not only the desired and easily perceived ones. That is why, especially in the case of Poland, which is an economy that is catching up with the developmental gap with Western countries, it is so important to have analytical thinking skills and to use the experience of not only own economic policy, so as not to make mistakes that could have been avoided and thus prevent the reduction of the financial security of Polish society and the deterioration of its standard of living in the coming decades. By keeping interest rates too low for far too long, the Polish National Bank not only increases the inflationary pressure in Poland, but also contributes to the deepening of the problem of excessive indebtedness (not only) of households in Poland in relation to their level of wealth and creditworthiness. That is why it is so important that the central bank in the 21st century – according to the opinions of a growing number of experts – should ensure a broader financial stability, rather than just keeping an eye on inflation and counteracting financial imbalances.

W artykule zaprezentowano wskaźnik wczesnego ostrzegania o powstawaniu tzw. bąbla spekulacyjnego w związku z nadmiernymi oczekiwaniami inwestorów w odniesieniu do wzrostu cen akcji na giełdzie papierów wartościowych. Jeżeli zaprezentowany wskaźnik przekroczy poziom 100 punktów, to rośnie prawdopodobieństwo, że osiągnięty poziom ceny danych akcji stanowi efekt tzw. bąbla spekulacyjnego. Istotna jest również informacja odnośnie do liczby spółek pozwalająca na obliczenie skumulowanego wskaźnika zachłanności dla całej giełdy.
Presentation of early warning indicator, which could inform about creating a speculative bubble and excessive investors expectations, which could provide a synthetic picture of excessive shares value on the stock exchange. If this indicator is above 100 points, then there is high likelihood that the share price is resulted by speculative bubble. It is important to know how many companies show this kind of threat and what is the total value of cumulated greed index.

Celem artykułu jest omówienie, w pierwszej jego części, najbardziej znanych francuskich teorii literatury fantastycznej, w części drugiej zaś pokazanie ich recepcji w Polsce. Przedstawiono zatem początki fantastyki francuskiej jako kontrowersyjnego gatunku transgenologicznego. Zaprezentowano następnie restrykcyjne próby definicji gatunku od lat pięćdziesiątych do siedemdziesiątych XX wieku we Francji (Castexa, Caillois, Vaxa, Todorova), a także późniejsze wysiłki krytyków (Andrevona) zmierzające do redefinicji gatunku i powrotu do jak najszerszego, transgenologicznego postrzegania fantastyki. Potem zilustrowano różnorodne próby interpretacji francuskich teorii w Polsce (na przykładzie prac Lema i Niziołek). W konkluzji podkreślono, że istnieje możliwość, by te dwa symultaniczne dyskursy krytyczne w Polsce, wywodzące się odpowiednio z tradycji polonistycznej i romanistycznej, definiujące fantastykę w sposób bardzo różny (ujęcie rozszerzone versus restrykcyjne), osiągnęły jednak konsensus dzięki ostatnim próbom reformy teorii fantastyki we Francji.
The purpose of this article is first to discuss the most well-known French theories of fantastic literature, and second, to describe their reception in Poland. The origins of the French fantastic as a controversial trans-generic genre are presented. Furthermore, the article examines the restrictive attempts to define the genre in the 1950s–1970s in France (by Castex, Caillois, Vax, Todorov), as well as the subsequent efforts of critics (Andrevon) to redefine the genre and return to the widest trans-generic perception of the fantastic. Then, it illustrates various attempts to interpret French theories in Poland (using the example of Lem’s and Niziołek’s works). The conclusion emphasizes that it is possible for these two simultaneous critical discourses, originating from the Polish and Romance tradition, respectively, and defining the fantastic in very different ways (the wider versus the restrictive approach), to reach a consensus in Poland, thanks to recent attempts to reform the theory of the fantastic in France.

The article reviews the book by Andrzej Marzec, entitled Antropocień. Filozofia i estetyka po końcu świata. It identifies the key subject areas discussed in his work (new materialism and object‑oriented ontology), as well as the adopted method. Due to the significant role of language in the philosopher’s terminological proposition, apart from analyzing the content of the book, the article also examines the publication as an attempt to question and liberate our human selves from the possibility of the dominant, anthropocentric language.

In the article the author discusses the mechanisms of the improvement of the human body that were present in the culture in the past ages. The starting points of the discussion are the ancient myths, where the figures of the heroes and hybrids appeared. They were ascribed with the important cultural functions. This situation indicates that the drive toward the improvement of human condition in its somatic dimension has existed in the culture since its beginnings. In the article, as the first ones, the mechanisms improving the body in the archaic cultures were presented, and only later the author makes the way for the analogical phenomena present in the contemporary cultures. While elaborating the modern literature, the author juxtaposes the texts that belong to speculative scifi and to the mythopoietic fantasy with the theoretical and futurological works that concern the problems of posthumanism and transhumanism. In this kind of perspective the theoretico-speculative aspects of posthumanism were described, then their literary realizations were presented, and finally the cultural consequences followed.
Autor omawia w niniejszym artykule mechanizmy polepszania ludzkiego ciała obecne w kulturze na przestrzeni wieków. Punktem wyjścia się mity świata starożytnego, w których pojawiały się figury herosów oraz hybryd, którym przypisywano ważne funkcje kulturowe. Wskazuje to wyraźnie fakt, że pragnienie udoskonalenia ludzkiej kondycji w jej wymiarze somatycznym istniało w kulturze już u zarania dziejów. Po prezentacji mechanizmów ulepszających ciało w kulturach archaicznych zaprezentowane zostały analogiczne zjawiska obecne w czasach kultury nowożytnej. Przy omawianiu literatury najnowszej Autor zestawił ze sobą teksty SF spekulacyjnej oraz mythopoeicznej fantasy z pracami teoretycznymi i futurologicznymi dotyczącymi zagadnień posthumanizmu i transhumanizmu. W tak zarysowanej perspektywie omówione zostały najpierw aspekty teoretyczno-spekulacyjne posthumanizmu, następnie ich realizacje literackie a na samym końcu konsekwencje kulturowe

The article is devoted to substantiation of significance of speculative operations and follows the goal to study their condition and development. It is substantiated that existence and stability of the securities market plays a significant role in development of financial market, which in turn becomes a key element in the mechanism of economy. The authors emphasize that the liquid market continues to function even with a large number of economic agents while price fluctuation of securities have a little change. Yet, arrival of speculators increases the number of participants in stock exchange transactions, thus promoting competition and, ultimately, more efficient detection of real value of economic subject. It has been proven that stock trading is very attractive for those who are interested in a combination of excitement and the possibility of a large quick profit, and is an extraordinary opportunity for profit as process of trading itself appears to be technically simple. It has been established that speculation can be carried out on the stock exchange both using cash and in futures transactions. However, operating with cash transactions has fewer combinations and in general less profitable, thus the main arena of speculators becomes the market of future transactions. It has been proven that speculative profits are possible during both “bullish games” and in shorting’s, thus becoming an important tool for additional attraction of investments. In summary, speculations have a crucial role in achieving a balance between capital market participants.

It is a widely accepted trope that museums work for future generations. They often define themselves in relation to heritage: something of the past, which is celebrated in the present and securely preserved for the future. In doing so, museums cloak themselves in a shroud of respectability for appropriately thinking in short and long terms and bravely facing future challenges. But what kind of future is at stake in this imperative to secure a heritage for future generations? Taking on a deliberate speculative tone and a philosophical outlook, this essay attempts to address this question by suggesting that museums organize their work on the basis of three futures, entirely riveted to an economic understanding of temporality. Against these, the essay also proposes a fourth future that not only gives impetus to their existence, but also provides them with the only way out of the economic temporalities that govern their existence.

Research carried out over recent years shows that speculative stock are the reason for inconsistent pricing of stock with the classic CAPM. The present work is an attempt to explain the impact of speculative stock on pricing in light of the ICAPM. The study is conducted using stocks quoted on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) in 1995–2012. The systematic risk and risk prices components are simulated by two chosen multifactor applications, with different procedures of portfolio construction. The investigated stocks are classified into quaintile portfolios according to established procedures. It has been assumed that both speculative stocks and improper algorithm for the test portfolios sorting contribute to inconsistent stock pricing in light of the ICAPM. As a result, tests are carried out in three modes. All WSE stocks are analyzed in mode 1. In modes 2 and 3 speculative stocks are excluded from the study. The analysis indicate that the results are in line with the extended conjectures.

Opis:
The chief aim of this paper is to demonstrate beyond reasonable doubt how, through an essential misunderstanding of the nature of philosophy, and science, over the past several centuries, the prevailing Western tendency to reduce the whole of science to mathematical physics unwittingly generated utopian socialism as a political substitute for metaphysics. In short, being unable speculatively, philosophically, and metaphysically to justify this reduction, some Western intellectuals re-conceived the natures of philosophy, science, and metaphysics as increasingly enlightened, historical and political forms of the evolution of human consciousness toward creation of systematic science, a science of clear and distinct ideas. In the process they unwittingly wound up reducing contemporary philosophy and Western higher education largely into tools of utopian socialist political propaganda.

Artykuł przedstawia konstrukcję homogenicznego systemu klaster - KETIM2, oraz dwa przykłady jego wykorzystania do rozwiązywania wybranych zagadnień z teorii sterowania i przybliżonych metod elektrotechniki. Pierwszym z nich jest równoległa implementacja algorytmu gradientu sprzężonego wykorzystywanego w teorii optymalizacji i metodzie elementów skończonych. Drugi przykład dotyczy równoległej analizy stanów nieustalonych w układach opisanych nieliniowym równaniem stanu. W tym drugim przypadku analizowano dynamikę silnika asynchronicznego pierścieniowego stosując metodę spekulacyjną. Przedstawiono również perspektywy zastosowań systemów wieloprocesorowych w technice pomiarowej.
The paper presents the construction of a homogenous cluster system - KETIM2 and two examples of its application for solving selected problems of control theory and approximate methods of electrical engineering. First of them is a parallel implementation of the conjugate gradient algorithm applied in the optimization theory and in the method of finite elements. The second example concerns parallel analysis of transient states in a dynamic system described by a nonlinear state equation. In the second case dynamics of asynchronous slip-ring motor was analysed appluing a speculative method. The perspectives of applications of multiprocessor systems in measurement technique were also presented.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to read Krzysztof’s Piskorski novel Czterdzieści i cztery as a part of steampunk. In order to do so, we will trace the elements of this subgenre in the work and the method of implementation of its basic assumptions. In addition, the text aims at showing references to the romantic tradition that take place at various levels of the novel. Both planes are finally brought together. The whole makes it possible to see a combination of steampunk with the romantic tradition from both perspectives and to explore why this melange has brought the writer such reading success. Another relevant aspect of the research is embedding the work in the contexts of: fantasy literature, Maria Janion's romantic paradigm theory and popular culture.
Zamiarem artykułu jest próba odczytania powieści Czterdzieści i cztery Krzysztofa Piskorskiego poprzez przyjrzenie się jej funkcjonowaniu w ramach steampunku. W tym celu prześledzone zostały występujące w utworze elementy tego podgatunku oraz sposób realizacji jego podstawowych założeń. Ponadto tekst skupia się na ukazaniu odwołań do tradycji romantycznej, jakie dokonują się na różnych poziomach powieści. Obie z wymienionych płaszczyzn zostają do siebie odniesione. Pozwala to ujrzeć obecne w Czterdzieści i cztery połączenie steampunku z tradycją romantyczną z obu perspektyw, a także zgłębić, dlaczego melanż ten przyniósł pisarzowi taki sukces czytelniczy. Istotne dla badań jest osadzenie utworu w kontekstach: literatury fantastycznej, teorii paradygmatu romantycznego Marii Janion oraz kultury popularnej.
