specific emissions of pollutants
Opis:
Reducing the emission of pollutants emitted from motor vehicles, and now also in greenhouse gas emissions, is a result of European Union policy. Vehicle design changes are just one way of reducing emissions of harmful substances and greenhouse gases. The second way is to change the type of fuel, by which the vehicle's engine is powered, that is the substitution of conventional fossil fuels derived from crude oil, such as gasoline or diesel fuel by so-called renewable fuels, for which the CO2 emissions are measured not only in the engine exhaust system, but also by analysis "from the source to the wheel" WTW (Well-to-wheel) - is much smaller. As part of this task the Directive 2009/28/EC introduced for all Member States to the use of renewable energy, biofuels, alternative fuels to a certain extent share of the energy and conventional fuel by 2020. This paper presents the results of measurements of emissions on the dynamometer with a diesel engine powered by six kinds of mixtures of diesel oil and rapeseed oil methyl ester (RME) – with esters containing 0 (clean diesel), 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 (pure rapeseed oil methyl esters)% in the fuel. We analysed the reasons for the impact of changes in fuel composition on selected limited exhaust components. We found, that the addition of esters of rapeseed oil to the diesel fuel can be a reason of reducing the emissions of CO, CO2, and THC in the exhaust gases of tested engine and increased emissions of NOx and PM.

Opis:
An experimental study on the performance and exhaust emissions of a spark ignition engine fueled with methane(CH4)-hydrogen (H2) blends was carried out at a constant speed of 1500 rpm and fixed excess air ratio (λ) of 1.5. The tests were carried out for pure methane and 2 blends (93% (by vol.) CH4 + 7% (by vol.) of H2, 77% (by vol.) CH4 + 23% (by vol.) of H2) at part load conditions in a naturally aspirated, three cylinder engine with a compression ratio of 9.3:1. The effects of hydrogen addition was studied at various spark timing and it is observed that the Maximum Brake Torque timing (MBT) retarded with increase in concentration of hydrogen. The coefficient of variation in indicated mean effective pressure (COVimep) decreases in blends, indicating stable combustion with hydrogen enrichment. A decrease in burn duration is observed and the crank angle at which peak pressure occurred, is tending towards top dead center (TDC) with increase in concentration of hydrogen due to higher laminar flame speed of the mixture enriched with hydrogen. In case of blends, specific emissions of carbon monoxide (CO) and unburned hydrocarbons (HC) decreases. However, there is considerable increase in specific emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx).

The article presents a study of a city bus in real operating conditions (RDE) from the perspective of the latest regulations for the assessment of specific emissions compliance for heavy-duty vehicles (Euro VI standard). The object of the research was a serial configuration hybrid drive vehicle. Measurements were made in the real driving conditions in Poznan agglomeration. The latest mobile equipment PEMS was used for the measurements. This article presents the details of the EU 582/2011 Procedure in operational conformity assessment, the methodology of the study was discussed, and the obtained results were presented, both in terms of vehicle operating conditions and engine operation, as well as specific emissions evaluation.

Opis:
The results of an experimental study of the effect of the pressure drop of the air filter pf on the operating parameters and exhaust emissions of a modern CI internal combustion engine of a truck equipped with an electronically controlled power system are presented. The tests were carried out for an air filter with a clean filter cartridge Δpf0 = 0.58 kPa and with a cartridge contaminated after a service mileage (about 50 thousand km) ΔpfD = 2.024 kPa. In each test, engine performance, exhaust emissions and relative change in emissions were determined: CO, NOx, HC, CO2, H2O. It was found that an increase in the filter resistance pf causes a decrease in the filling degree by 12%, engine useful power by almost 10%, exhaust gas temperature by a maximum of 30oC and an increase in specific fuel consumption by almost 5%. Air filter resistance has no significant effect on NOx emissions and HC concentration. There is a reduction in H2O emissions by up to 7%, CO by up to 13% and CO2 by up to 4%, and an increase in oxygen emissions by 15%, depending on operating conditions.

Opis:
The paper presents the experimental test results reflecting the comparative changes in the performance efficiency and emissions of the exhaust of a naturally aspirated, four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled diesel engine due to its transition from neat rapeseed oil biodiesel to fuel blends prepared by mixing in various proportion (by volume) rapeseed methyl ester (B) and butanol (Bu). The lubricity properties of biodiesel-n-butanol fuel blends were studied using HFRR method. In contrast to previous works, the undertaken investigation is performed with a totally renewable, binary liquid biofuel blends. The purpose of the research is to reduce simultaneously the production of NOx emissions and the exhaust smoke with respect to neat biodiesel due to potentially improved homogeneity of combustible mixture and particulate matter emissions benefits suggested by the higher oxygen content (21.62 wt%) and the relatively lower carbon-to-hydrogen ratio (4.8) of the normal n-butanol. The tests revealed that the brake specific fuel consumption for the binary biodiesel-n-butanol fuel blends is always higher than that neat biodiesel produces under the same loading conditions. Maximum nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions were obtained with the engine running on neat biodiesel (2290 ppm). At full (100%) load conditions, the lowest NOx emission was obtained with the engine running on a biofuel BBu20 blend. The lowest level of carbon monoxide emissions (CO) was observed, when engine running with the most butanol-oxygenated biofuel blend BBu20.The highest smoke opacity of the exhaust was obtained when the engine was fuelled with neat biodiesel and at full load.
