    This paper’s main goal is to present the outcome of a field study from 2015 among the companies representing the sector of modern services for business in the area of Lodz. The main interest of the study were the information on the foreign languages and languages for specific purposes being in use in the outsourcing sector on the local job market as well as the main areas of use of foreign languages.     In my article, I present the person metaphor as the constitutive term for the theory of artificial persons. We have been dealing with various manners of reading the nature of the legal person, and consequently of law in general, especially private law (Privatrecht), since Roman times to this day. The point of departure for my deliberations, in which I try to demonstrate the nature of metaphorical expressions used in building legal theories, is a statement by Paul Kirchhof, who demanded that metaphorical expressions be eradicated from positive (statutory) law. I ask if the demand can also be applied to theoretical deliberations of lawyers on the nature of law. Based on examples from legal discussions on the nature of the legal person, I formulate the claim that Paul Kirchhof ’s demand should be applied only to positive law texts. Metaphorical expressions have no raison d’être in such texts, especially if they are meant to serve as terms. A different situation occurs where a metaphorical expression is the basis for building a legal system and relations among its components. At this phase of developing law, metaphorical expressions give rise to similarities on which its functions depend. Therefore, at the stage of structuring the meanings of legal terms, corresponding to the vagueness of the metaphor are the important processes of defining and then using legal terms.

Lekarz rodzinny przyjmuje pacjentów, którzy przychodzą do niego z różnymi dolegliwościami. Artykuł ten zawiera nazwy różnych chorób, terminy anatomiczne, nazwy testów diagnostycznych, metod leczenia i lekarstw. Języki klasyczne, tj. łacina i greka, miały duży wpływ na współczesne słownictwo medyczne, a terminy fachowe zaczerpnięte z tych języków wciąż są w użyciu. Nie dotyczy to tylko zapożyczeń całych słów, lecz także ich fragmentów, prefiksów i sufiksów. Oprócz łaciny i greki w zbadanym materiale są obecne także zapożyczenia z języka angielskiego i francuskiego. Słownictwo zawiera różne typy słowotwórcze: słowa proste, złożenia, derywaty i terminy składające się z wielu wyrazów. W grupie złożeń wymienić należy także tzw. hybrydy, w których każdy człon pochodzi z innego języka. Ponadto słownictwo jest bogate w eponimy i akronimy. Vaktermen van vreemde afkomst in de Nederlandse huisartsenpraktijk Dit artikel geeft voorbeelden van specialistische termen uit vreemde talen die in de praktijk van de Nederlandse huisarts worden gebruikt. De huisarts onderzoekt patiënten die met een klacht naar hem toe komen. Het gaat om namen van verschillende ziekten, anatomische termen, diagnostische tests, behandelmethoden en medicijnen. De klassieke talen, het Latijn en het Grieks, hebben een grote invloed gehad op de moderne medische vocabulaire en zijn nog steeds in gebruik. Niet alleen hele woorden zijn ontleend, maar ook delen, voor- en achtervoegsels. Afgezien van de Latijnse en Griekse termen zijn er ook ontleningen aan het Engels en het Frans in de voorbeelden. Het vocabulaire bevat verschillende soorten woordvorming, zoals eenvoudige woorden, samenstellingen, afgeleide termen en termen, die uit meer woorden bestaan. In de groep van verbindingen zijn er de hybride vormen, waarin elk deel uit een andere taal komt. Bovendien is deze vocabulaire rijk aan eponiemen en acroniemen.
    This article includes examples of specialist terms coming from foreign languages which are used in the practice of the Dutch family doctor. The family doctor examines patients who come to him with a complaint. This article comprises names of various diseases, anatomic terms, diagnostic tests, treatment methods and medicines. Classical languages, like Latin and Greek, have had a big influence on the modern medical vocabulary and they are still in use. Not only have the whole words been borrowed but also their parts, prefixes and suffixes. Apart from the Latin and Greek terms there are also borrowings from English and French in the collected examples. The vocabulary contains different types of the word-formation, like simple words, compounds, derivates and terms, which consist of more words. In the group of compounds there are the so-called hybrid forms, in which each part comes from a different language. Besides, this vocabulary is rich in eponyms and acronyms.

    In der bisherigen linguistischen Forschung ist die Analyse von Fachwörtern im Allgemeinen an einzelnen Fachwörtern bzw. Termini oder an ganzen Fachwortschätzen bzw. Terminologien orientiert. Im Rahmen dieser Forschung ist bislang ein wichtiger Aspekt fachlicher Lexik weitgehend unbeachtet geblieben: Das Problem der textuellen Konstitution von Terminologie – oder anders formuliert: die Frage, wie ein Fachwortschatz in einem Fachtext eingeführt wird. Meine Überlegungen werden mit Beispielen aus den Texten der Rechtswissenschaftler der historischen Rechtsschule des 19. Jahrhunderts illustriert.
    Specialist terminology analysis in linguistic research to date has generally focused on unitary specialist terms or on entire specialist vocabularies or complete terminologies. What this research has disregarded is an important aspect of specialist vocabulary: the issue of how terminologies are constituted textually or how specialist vocabularies are deployed in specialist texts. My considerations are illustrated with examples from texts by law researchers from the 19th century German Historical School of Jurisprudence.

    Real versus nominal definitions in the language of 19th century German legal dissertations Definition is included in the basic (scientific) activities (methods). The results of the definition are communicated in the language. In my paper I take up the topic of functions performed by definitions in the development of knowledge about law. The basis for my deliberations are selected fragments of German scientific treatises from the 19th century. I am particularly interested in the above topic in the context of the principle of dividing definitions into real and nominal definitions adopted since the times of Aristotle. In my paper I try to establish the status of definitions used in the texts I analyse. The fundamental research problem is whether the definitions formulated by the 19th century German law theorists are certificated, real, classical essential definitions – established in the final analysis (this would be consistent with the expectations of some researchers of the language of law related to its character, i.e. its accuracy, accuracy), or whether these definitions are understood in a fallible way, subject to revision and change, which are the results of the field of law.

    Jako komponent typowych sytuacji komunikacyjnych związanych z aktami mowy (nawiązanie/podtrzymanie kontaktu, wyrażanie emocji oraz organizowanie wypowiedzi) i ważny element kompetencji językowej formuły rutynowe stanowią istotne wyzwanie dla glottodydaktyki praktycznej. Przedmiotem rozważań jest dobór i sposób przedstawienia formuł rutynowych w wybranych podręcznikach do nauki niemieckiego języka biznesu, wykorzystywanych na studiach germanistycznych.W szczególności zbadane zostały zwroty stosowane w korespondencji handlowej, rozmowach telefonicznych w firmie oraz innych konwencjonalnych biznesowych sytuacjach komunikacyjnych. Analizie poddano również różnego typu ćwiczenia, które mają na celu doskonalenie kompetencji językowej w tym zakresie.
    Routine formulas represent an essential challenge for foreign language teaching as a compound of typical communicative situations due to speech acts (in maintaining new and old business contacts, expressing emotions, and discourse organization), and as an important element of pragmatic language competence. The main subject of the reflection is the selection and presentation of formulaic expressions in selected course books for business German as a foreign language which are used in the academic context. In particular, the fields of business correspondence, business phone calls, and other common communicative situations were analyzed, as well as exercises and other didactic activities aimed at developing business foreign language skills.

    Im Fokus des vorliegenden Textes liegt das Problem des Übersetzens deutscher und polnischer Gerichtsbenennungen. Aufgrund einer Analyse der in der rechtswissenschaftlichen Literatur und in den Rechtswörterbüchern gängigen Übersetzungsformen stellt der Autor fest, dass die Übersetzungen der deutschen und der polnischen Gerichtsbenennungen den Empfängern in vielen Fällen nicht ermöglichen, die entsprechende Institution zu erkennen, was die Verständlichkeit der Zieltexte deutlich beeinträchtigt.Unter Hinweis auf bestehende Divergenzen zwischen den deutschen und den polnischen Gerichten überlegt der Autor, ob Unterschiede, die zwischen zwei Institutionen verschiedener Rechtssysteme bestehen, in der Übersetzung immer signalisiert werden sollen. In Anlehnung an die Theorie der Rechtsvergleichung werden diejenigen Bedeutungsmerkmale festgestellt, die in der Rechtskommunikation und somit auch in der Rechtsübersetzung wesentlich sind. Vor diesem Hintergrund versucht der Autor die Frage zu beantworten, wie Gerichtsbezeichnungen übertragen werden können, und vielleicht sollen, damit der Zieltext an Verständlichkeit nicht verliert. Diesbezüglich werden drei Übersetzungsverfahren vorgeschlagen und in einer analytischen Übertragung der deutschen und der polnischen Gerichtsbenennungen angewendet.Es wird hier das Ziel verfolgt, zur Verständlichkeit der Übersetzungen juristischer Texte beizutragen und zugleich eine Alternative für umschreibende Übersetzungen der Gerichtsbezeichnungen vorgeschlagen.
    W niniejszym tekście podjęty został problem przekładu nazw niemieckich oraz polskich nazw sądów. Na podstawie analizy używanych form tłumaczeń w literaturze prawniczej oraz w słownikach autor stwierdza, że przekłady te są często na tyle nieczytelne, że nie pozwalają one odbiorcom określić ani instytucji kraju języka wyjściowego, ani tej języka docelowego, co w znacznym stopniu ogranicza zrozumiałość tekstów docelowych.Wskazując na różnice istniejące pomiędzy sądami niemieckimi i polskimi, autor zastanawia się, czy w przekładzie należy zaznaczać każdego rodzaju dywergencje, występujące między instytucjami dwóch różnych systemów prawnych. W oparciu o teorię komparatystyki prawniczej wskazane zostają te elementy znaczeniowe, które odgrywają istotną rolę w komunikacji prawniczej oraz przekładzie tekstów tego rodzaju. W dalszej części autor zastanawia się, w jaki sposób nazwy sądów mogą, albo powinny być przetłumaczone, aby instytucja kraju języka wyjściowego i decelowego były w translacie rozpoznawalne. W odpowiedzi na to pytanie zaproponowane zostają trzy techniki, których zastosowanie zostaje w tekście przedstawione w analitycznym przekładzie niemieckich i polskich nazw sądów.Przedstawione techniki tłumaczeniowe mają umożliwić poprawę czytelności przekładów prawniczych, a ponadto mają one stanowić alternatywę dla często stosowanego przekładu opisowego nazw sądów.
    The focus of this paper is centered on the translation of German and Polish court names. Based on a thorough analysis of the translation terms used in legal literature and dictionaries, the author concludes that the court names are often being translated in a way that makes it impossible for the reader to correctly identify the institution in question, thus undermining the comprehensibility of the target texts significantly.Pointing to the differences between the court systems of Germany and Poland, the author contemplates whether the dissimilarities between two institutions from different legal systems need always to be marked in the translation. On the basis of the comparative law theory, the meaning features essential for both legal communication and legal translation are identified and presented.In the next part, the author examines how to translate the court names so that the institution at issue is instantly recognizable in the target text. As a result, three comprehensive translation techniques are proposed.The presented translation techniques shall contribute to improving the comprehensibility of legal texts, and constitute an alternative to the  descriptive translation of these institutions.

    In information science ontologies are defined as content theories about the entities, properties of entities and relations between entities in a specified domain of discourse. This paper provides a conceptual introduction to applied ontologies and their role in describing knowledge in the light of the anthropocentric theory of human languages created by F. Grucza. The Author discusses what kind of knowledge ontologies primarily represent and deliberates on relations between ontologies, texts and knowledge.

    Im Beitrag werden ausgewählte Benennungsstrategien dargestellt, welche die Entstehung der Eisenbahn-Termini beeinflussen. Es soll dabei nachgewiesen werden, dass die Form der Fachtermini im Wesentlichen von solchen Aspekten wie Sprachökonomie und Verdeutlichungstendenz abhängt. Ein kurzer geschichtlicher Abriss und die besondere Hervorhebung der kognitiven Funktion von Fachsprachen sollen den Analyserahmen fundieren, indem sie einerseits auf die Relevanz des behandelten Themas und andererseits auf den mehrdimensionalen Charakter der gewonnenen Ergebnisse hindeuten.
    Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje wybrane strategie nazewnicze, które wpływają na powstawanie terminów fachowych w branży kolejnictwa. Jednym z jego celów jest ukazanie, że forma tych pojęć jest w głównej mierze uzależniona od takich aspektów jak ekonomia językowa i ‘tendencja do uwidaczniania’. Krótki rys historyczny i szczególne podkreślenie znaczenia kognitywnej funkcji języków fachowych tworzą ramy niniejszej analizy, z jednej strony podkreślając wagę omawianego zagadnienia, z drugiej zaś wskazując na wielowymiarowy charakter uzyskanych wyników.
    The following article presents selected naming strategies which affect terminologization in the railroad industry. One of its aims is to prove that the form of these terms is largely dependant on such aspects as the language economy and the ‘tendency to exposition/visualisation’. A short historical view and a particular emphasis on the cognitive function of languages for a special purposes create a frame of the following analysis, stressing the importance of the issue and, at the same time, showing the multidimensional character of the achieved results.

    Opis:
    Adapting foreign language teaching to the requirements of studentswith special educational needs requires prior diagnosis of the developmental potential of the pupils concerned. Because of the educational and rehabilitative character of foreign language learning in studentswith language and speech deficiencies, the diagnosis addresses the possibilities of using foreign language learning in developing general and linguistic competencies in both languages (native and foreign). The article presents the aims of diagnosing linguistic communicative competencies in the context of foreign language teaching. The differences between speech diagnosis and diagnosis performed for the needs of foreign language teaching are discussed, based on cases of pupils with deficiencies in their native language (Polish). The evaluation of the students’ competencies involved reformulation as an instrument of linguistic diagnosis; learning strategies were also considered in the assessment.
