Opis:
The observation, results and regularities quoted so far bring about several theoretical and practical remarks. Let us present the most essential of them. The function analysis, expressing the investigated distance function analysis referring to various places in space, meet many difficulties in a total presentation. The available data, used most frequently, are only samples taken from a definite place, point in space or subjectively defined time. Still, there exists an essential problem for geographical investigation, namely to what extent these samples are representative of the surrounding reality. The interpretation of the finding obtained in this way brings about almost analogous problems. The above refers to space observation. Moreover, the relativity of distance measures is not enough to treat these conventional premises and instruments as absolute. These is the possibility of transforming the discussed variables, but their form and character are often too difficult to be determined and, thus, impractical. The awarness of the problem mentioned above and the formalisation of the considered conceptions in a form (wave and time) of models does not eliminate the possibility of including these, and other complementary models referring to the remaining phenomena of a region, in a system of regional models. In my opinion this constitutes a proper way of investigating and programing the development of a region taken as a system.

Opis:
In this paper, we propose a multi-group SEIR epidemic model with spatial diffusion, where the model parameters are spatially heterogeneous. The positivity and ultimate boundedness of the solution, as well as the existence of a global attractor of the associated solution semiflow, are established. The definition of the basic reproduction number is given by utilizing the next generation operator approach, whereby threshold-type results on the global dynamics in terms of this number are established. That is, when the basic reproduction number is less than one, the disease-free steady state is globally asymptotically stable, while if it is greater than one, uniform persistence of this model is proved. Finally, the feasibility of the main theoretical results is shown with the aid of numerical examples for a model with two groups.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to show, in geographic and historical terms, the links between the life of Wincenty Pol (1807–1872) and the railways. As a witness of their development in Central Europe, and at the same time a geographer – professor at the Jagiellonian University, he saw the advantages of the new mode of transport for the economy, society and sightseeing. The paper analyses episodes from W. Pol’s biography with a reference to the stages of the process of spatial diffusion of railways in the world. An attempt was made to indicate the places and circumstances of his direct contact with railways, especially during his travels. Elements of his scientific output related to the geography of rail transport were also indicated. The research was based on his writings, including the mail, and other literature, iconographic and cartographic sources. The most important result of the analyses is a spatial reconstruction of the routes that W. Pol could have travelled by train between 1845 and 1872.

Opis:
A key driving force and determinant of a country’s worth in the globalized world is inherent in its level of industrialization. Certainly, other dimensions are crucial and come into play, however, the infamous classification of nations into industrialized and non-industrialized has added substantial merit to the concept. Essentially, industrialization in Ghana was based on the premise of the production and processing of its vast natural resources from traditionally primary products to tertiary and finished goods. While the industry can boast of employment generation and a model of economic growth in the 1960s and 1970s, inadequate implementation of industrial policies has resulted in the consistent contraction of the manufacturing subsector. Manufacturing sector contribution to GDP declined from 36.69% in 2000 to 6.7% in 2012 and therefore is considered the weakest link in Ghana’s industrial drive. This paper examines the growth, spatial structure, and distribution of manufacturing industries in the Greater Accra region using districts as the unit of analysis. The Greater Accra region has traditionally been the focal point of Ghana’s industrial development accounting for 23.4% of all manufacturing establishment as of 2015, most of which are concentrated in the Accra and Tema Metropolitan areas due to obvious political, socioeconomic and mobility factors. Examining historical data from 1962–2010, we found that despite the overwhelmingly large localization of manufacturing industries delete in Accra and Tema Metropolitan areas, a relative spatial redistribution of manufacturing industries was evident in the peripheral district of the region. Furthermore, the change in distribution is reflected in the pattern of employment at the district level, which per our findings shows a relative diffusion from the core districts of Accra to districts located in the peripheries. The study also found that industrial policies, such as free trade zone initiative, decentralization policies, foreign investment and improvements in critical infrastructure, have resulted in the relative spatial diffusion of manufacturing industries. These findings are significant because they show how areas without previous manufacturing base have witnessed the emergence of some form of industry.

Opis:
In the paper, spatial cross-regressive models were used for the identification of the processes of the spatial diffusion of innovations in Central Europe. As it is difficult to measure the diffusion of innovations directly, the empirical part of the work was based on symptomatic indicators. In the course of the research, the author undertook to show how variables indicating the level of innovation (considered to be independent variables) shaped the efficiency of work, expressed as the indicator of gross value added per worker (modelled dependent variable). The regression analysis conducted showed that there was a statistically significant link between innovation and the efficiency of work in Central European countries, also in the dimension of spatial interactions among regions. Econometric modelling led to the conclusion that the spatial diffusion of innovations occurred.

Opis:
Research background: This study identifies the key factors influencing environmental health across a global panel of countries, focusing on protection from environmental hazards, as informed by the existing literature, while also shedding light on novel aspects of these causal relationships. Purpose of the article: This study aims to reveal, through a comprehensive review of the relevant literature, the underexplored phenomena of spatial diffusion and contagion of national environmental behaviors and the nonlinear dynamics between environmental performance and its determinants, acknowledging the significant diversity in the characteristics and behaviors of the countries studied. Methods: Spatial analysis and econometric methods, including spatial panel regression alongside dynamic panel models using threshold techniques, were employed to meet the study’s objectives. Findings & value added: This study’s major finding is that environmental performance across nations shows significant clustering influenced by economic and institutional factors. This clustering effect arises from spatial contagion and diffusion processes, as evidenced by spatial panel regression analysis. Furthermore, this study demonstrates that variations in environmental behavior can be attributed to differing levels of development and specific internal conditions within countries. Notably, a country’s gross domestic product and the proportion of industries in its economy have a substantial effect on its environmental health practices, establishing distinct impact thresholds. This research enriches academic dialogue by illustrating, through these thresholds, that in less developed countries, an increased industrial share leads to environmental degradation. Moreover, the influence of the other examined factors varied depending on the category of the country under review, highlighting the nuanced effects of economic and institutional variables on environmental outcomes.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to present some approaches to tumour growth modelling using the logistic equation. As the first approach the well-known ordinary differential equation is used to model the EAT in mice. For the same kind of tumour, a logistic equation with time delay is also used. As the second approach, a logistic equation with diffusion is proposed. In this case a delay argument in the reaction term is also considered. Some mathematical properties of the presented models are studied in the paper. The results are illustrated using computer simulations.
