Opis:
This paper describes a one-dimensional code developed for analyzing the two-phase deflagration to detonation transition (DDT) phenomenon in granular high-energy solid propellants. The deflagration to detonation transition model was established based on a one-dimensional two-phase reactive flow model involving basic flow conservation equations and constitutive relations. The whole system was solved using a high resolution 5th-order WENO (Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory) scheme for spatial discretization, coupled with a 3rd-order TVD Runge-Kutta method for time discretization, to improve the accuracy and prevent excessive dispersion. An inert two-phase shock tube problem was carried out to access the developed code. The DDT process of high-energy solid propellants was simulated and the parameters of detonation pressure, run distance to detonation and time to detonation were calculated. The results show that for a solid propellant bed with solid volume fraction 0.65, the run distance to detonation was about 120 mm, the detonation induced time was 28 μs, and the detonation pressure was 18 GPa. In addition, the effects of solid volume fraction (φs) and pressure exponent (n) on the deflagration to detonation transition were also investigated. The numerical results for the DDT phenomenon are in good agreement with experimental results available in the literature.

Solid propellant rocket motors for Shoulder Launched Infantry Weapon Systems (SLWS) are characterized with a very short burning time, high-pressure combustion and a wide spectrum of design solutions for rocket motor structure. Interior ballistic behaviour of such rocket motors depends on many factors such as design structure, propellant grain shape, propellant grain joint to the rocket motor case, type and location of the igniter, spinning mode and nozzle design. Erosive burning also plays important role due to high combustion gases mass flow rate. Numerical simulation of the igniter combustion gases flow through the hollow of the propellant grain tubes with gas temperature distribution was carried out in this paper. Results confirmed assumptions that igniter interior gas flow affected duration of the pressure rise. A mathematical model approach for prediction of the curve p = f(t) which was included in a model of the corrected propellant grain burning surface for two types of short-time rocket motors has been presented. A good agreement with measured curves was achieved.

The paper deals with the comparison of Biot’s model for saturated, porous soils with other simplified models used in dynamic analysis. The purpose of this paper is to determine some limits of validity of the various models. In order to do this a full set of governing, dynamic equations of Biot model and a series of simplifying models such as u-p simplification and quasi-static consolidation models are considered. These formulations are applied to a simple soil layer under periodic surface loading. A displacement of skeleton and a displacement of fluid are shown and compared with each model for various formulations.

In this paper, the stretching-stress relaxation properties of polyester/viscose and regenerated bamboo fiber/cotton blended yarns are studied. Based on the Boltzmann superposition principle, the stretching-stress relaxation process of the yarns is analysed using the standard linear solid model. Theoretical equations of the stretching-stress relaxation process are deduced. Stretching-stress relaxation experiments were made under two different conditions, that is, the yarns were stretched to a definite strain at different rates of straining and to different strains at the same strain-rate. Regressive equations of stress relaxation and correlation coefficients of the yarns are calculated. Theoretical expectations display very good agreement with the experimental observations, indicating that the standard linear solid model can be used to describe the stress relaxation properties of yarns under lower strain conditions. It can also be found from the experimental and theoretical results that the higher the strain-rate and larger the maximum strain, the lower the relaxation time.
Zbadano właściwości rozciągania i relaksacji naprężeń przędz poliestrowo-wiskozowych i z mieszanek bawełny z włóknami „bambusowymi” (regenerowanej celulozy bambusowej). W oparciu o zasadę superpozycji Boltzmanna analizowano proces rozciągania-relaksacji naprężeń przędz za pomocą standardowego liniowego modelu Zenera. Wyprowadzono teoretyczne równania procesów rozciągania i relaksacji naprężeń. Badania przeprowadzono dla dwóch różnych warunków: przędze rozciągano do określonego naprężenia, przy różnych prędkościach rozciągania oraz do różnych naprężeń, przy tej samej prędkości. Obliczono równania regresji relaksacji naprężeń oraz współczynniki korelacji przędz. Teoretyczne oczekiwania są zgodne z obserwacjami eksperymentalnymi, co oznacza, że standardowy model liniowy może zostać zastosowany do opisu właściwości relaksacji naprężeń w przędzach przy niższych wartościach odkształceń. Wyniki teoretyczne jak i eksperymentalne wskazują również, że im większa prędkość rozciągania i większe obciążenie maksymalne, tym krótszy czas relaksacji.

In view of the powder feeding system, a multi-physical coupling model of the gas-powder-piston was established based on the Euler-Euler two-fluid model. The numerical simulation method was applied to explore the effects of dense gas-solid flow characteristics under different operating pressures. The results show that gas-solid pulsations at different operating pressures are mainly concentrated in the upper part of the powder tank. An elevated operating pressure efficiently decreases the powder layer area (εp = 0.1) fluctuation. As the operating pressure increases from 0.5 MPa to 3.0 MPa, the rising time and fluctuation rate of pressure are reduced by 71.4% and 62.3%, respectively, and the pressure in the tank has a long stabilization period. Meanwhile, the variation of the instantaneous powder flow rate is more stable and its average value is closer to the theoretical. A high-pressure environment is more conducive to the stable transportation of powder.

One of the main toxic components of post quenching salts formed in large quantities during steel hardening processes is BaCl2. This dangerous ingredient can be chemically neutralized after dissolution in water by means of reaction crystallization with solid ammonium sulphate (NH4)2SO4. The resulting size distribution of the ecologically harmless crystalline product - BaSO4 - is an important criteria deciding about its further applicability. Presence of a second component of binary quenching salt mixture (BaCl2-NaCl) in water solution, NaCl, influences the reaction-crystallization process kinetics affecting the resulting product properties. The experimental 39 input-output data vectors containing the information about the continuous reaction crystallization in BaCl2 - (NH4)2SO4 - NaCl - H2O system ([BaCl2]RM = 10-24 mass %, [NaCl]RM = 0-12 mass %, T = 305-348 K and τ = 900-9000 s) created the database for the neural network training and validation. The applicability of diversified network configurations, neuron types and training strategies were verified. An optimal network structure was used for the process modeling.

The objective of the study was to develop a steady-state system model in Aspen TECH using user-defined subroutines to predict the SOFC electrochemical performance. In order to achieve high overall fuel utilization and thus high electrical efficiency, a concept of Combined Heat and Power system with two-stage SOFC stacks of different number of cells was analyzed. The concept of two-stage SOFC stacks based system was developed in the framework of the FP7 EU-funded project STAGE-SOFC. The model was validated against data gathered during the operation of the proof-of-concept showing good agreement with the comparative simulation data. Following model validation, further simulations were performed for different values of fuel utilization to analyze its influence on system electrical performance. Simulation results showed that the concept of two-stage SOFC stacks configuration was viable and reliable. The model can be useful for development the optimal control strategy for system under safe conditions.

The model resolves spatially thermal and thermo-electrochemical behaviour for electrochemical reactions, Catalytic Partial Oxidation and Steam Reforming processes. The completed SOFCs based Combined Heat and Power, CHP, system model was validated by data18 and numerical results obtained at steady-state mode showing its high-fidelity. A parametric study with respect to key operating parameters including changes in fuel utilization, lambda number and current density values was conducted. The global CHP system dynamic response, in term of the current/voltage delivered by two-stage SOFC stacks, under a fi xed fuel utilization, has been determined resulting in greater variations in the voltage of a single cell in the first stack in comparison to the corresponding values in the second stack.

The objective of this study was to estimate the content of methane produced and generated by the anaerobic biodegradation of the main organic fraction of municipal solid waste from the controlled landfill of Mohammedia-Benslimane (Morocco) by three theoretical models, based on the first order decay equation: LandGEM, IPCC and TNO. To carry out this study, the quantities of solid waste buried in this landfill since its inauguration in 2012 were used and the composition of the biogas in-situ in 2020 and 2021was determined. The quantities of waste that will be buried in this landfill from 2022 to 2032 were estimated by projection.The results of the analysis of the biogas generated in this controlled landfill in 2020–2021 indicate that it is composed of 59.59% CH4, 38.9% CO2, and 0.14% O2. This result indicates that the waste is in a stable methanogenesis phase. The results obtained by using the three methodologies show that the total volume of CH4 generated during the period 2012–2021 was 32.59 Mm3 according to the IPCC model, 20.95 Mm3 according to the LandGEM model and 20.96 Mm3 according to the TNO model. The total volume of CH4 that will be produced during the period 2022–2032 has been projected to 107.48 Mm3 by the IPCC model, to 76.84 Mm3 by the LandGEM model, while the total volume of CH4 projected under the TNO method will be 67.67 Mm3. The maximum methane production will reach a value of 12.07 Mm3, 9.46 Mm3 and 7.82 Mm3 for the IPCC, LandGEM and TNO models, respectively. In 2021, the volume of methane estimated by the three models is higher than that on-site measurement by a factor of 3.5(IPCC), 2.4 (LandGEM) and 2.3 (TNO). The results clearly indicate that the three models over predict methane generations when compared to the on-site generations. According to the LandGEM methodology, the electricity estimated will reach a maximum value of 33 GWh/year in 2032.The efficient use of methane generated by this controlled landfill as a source of electrical energy in the upcoming years can be an option for the sustainable management of waste.

Rozważania dotyczą układu pozyskiwania energii elektrycznej w postaci trójwarstwowej belki wysięgnikowej, składającej się ze stalowej warstwy środkowej i zewnętrznych warstw piezoelektrycznych. Odkształcenie belki wywołano przemieszczeniem jej swobodnego końca o ustalonej wartości. W pracy zbadano wpływ parametrów geometrycznych i materiałowych generatora belkowego na pozyskiwane napięcie i energię elektryczną. W porównawczych obliczeniach metodą elementów skończonych, przeprowadzonych przy zastosowaniu modeli płaskich i bryłowych, wykazano dostateczną dokładność modeli płaskich. Wyniki otrzymane uproszczoną metodą analityczną i metodą elementów skończonych przedstawiono graficznie w postaci zależności napięcia lub energii od stosunku grubości warstw. Dla wybranych sztywności warstw wyznaczono wartości stosunku ich grubości, którym odpowiada największa efektywność generatora. Zbliżone wyniki uzyskano w przypadku obu metod obliczeniowych.
The cantilever beam energy harvester consists of three layers, steel in the middle and the two outer piezoelectric layers, was considered. The strain of the beam was caused by the free end static deflection. The influence of the material and the geometry parameters of the beam generator on the generated voltage and the electrical energy was investigated. Sufficient accuracy of the plain and the solid FEM models were proved. The results obtained in the analytical and the FEM ways was compared and shown graphically as the relationship between the generated voltage or energy and the layer thickness ratio. The most effective, from the energy harvesting point of view, thickness and stiffness ratio of the layers was founded. The similar results from both calculation methods were obtained.

Opis:
The paper deals with experimental and theoretical research of resonance effects during silo emptying. The influence of resonance effects on wall pressures in silos has been investigated with model tests and FE analyses. The model tests were carried out with a cylindrical and rectangular silo containing various cohesive and non-cohesive bulk solids. The onset of dynamic silo flow was simulated with controlled outlet velocity along the bottom in a plane strain model and large silo. The confined flow of dry sand in a silo with parallel walls during resonance was described with a finite element method based on a polar elasto-plastic constitutive law. It differs from the conventional theory of plasticity by the presence of Cosserat rotations and couple stresses using mean grain diameter as a characteristic length. In the FE calculations, the silo walls were taken into account.
