Opis:
The use of forwarders during forest work enabled a significant increase in the efficiency of timber transport from the harvesting site to the place of temporary storage. Due to their efficiency and greater safety compared to older types of machines, a further increase in the use of these machines in Polish forests seems inevitable. The research was carried out in the Gidle Forest District (southern Poland). Measurements were carried out on 5 logging sites, where the wood transportation was carried out using a modified Ponsse Gazelle forwarder. These plots differed one from the other in the type of habitat as well as soil type and moisture. During research 7 transects were established. They were 30 m long each. On each transect changes of soil compactness were determined. The measurement was made before and after each 20 forwader passes. Soil penetration resistance was measured using the Ejkelkamp hand penetrometer. The analyses focused on left rut, right rut and in the middle between wheel ruts. On the examined sites soil samples were taken to determine the moisture changes associated with the machine passes. The statistically significant differences were found in the rate of soil compactness increase depending on the type of soil, and forest stand. Also statistically significant differences were observed in soil moisture between soil in skid trails and area without machine passes.

Opis:
This article deals with the problems of the soil cover disturbance and contamination at oil field construction. It provides a description of the set of measures aimed at ensuring the soil protection at the construction of industrial facilities at oil fields. The research object was the soil located at the interface of the wooded tundra and the southern tundra. This soil is characterized by the peculiar features that are determined by the certain commonality of the climate, as well as the similarity of the landscape evolution. The work included studying the content of the polluting matters in the tundra marshy and alluvial soddy soil located at the interface of the wooded tundra and southern tundra. The article contains a detailed analysis of the measures aimed at decreasing the impact on the soil cover during the construction of approach ways to valve stations and line facilities. The measures on the reliability and safety improvement of the pipeline operation, preservation of the stream conditions, the measures aimed at the prevention and minimization of the negative impact on the geological environment, and the measures for farsighted use and protection of soil quarries (sand and turf) have also been considered.

Opis:
Silver fir used to be one of the most important tree species in the Czech forests until the 19th century. Large scale clearcuts, which nowadays occur after the salvage logging of Norway spruce due to wind of bark-beetle attacks are unfavourable for the artificial regeneration of a fir. Growth of silver fir and three pioneer species was studied during first three years in a nurse crop system established after forest dis- turbance events. Five-years-old containerized silver fir seedlings were planted in autumn 2014 with silver birch, alder or aspen with and without nurse crops (control plot) on two localities (Tornádo and Rakovec). The Tornádo site represents natural conditions of Central European forest (Fageta typica) type on a haplic cambisols and favourable soil water regime, while Rakovec site a Querco-Abietetum forest type on a haplic stagnosols, which was periodically waterlogged. Silver fir grew best in admixture with silver birch which significantly promoted the height increment of the firs on both localities and improved the fir survival rate at one of the sites. The lower mortality and faster growth of both silver fir and pioneers were observed on Tornádo site where 92% and 100% of the silver fir trees survived under the birch and aspen cover, respec- tively, while 93% of planted firs survived in the open area. Only 93% and 67% of silver firs survived on the Rakovec site with same two pioneer species, respectively and 73% in the open area. After three years the highest height increment of silver fir was observed under silver birch, where trees were by 20 cm and 11 cm taller at Tornádo and Rakovec sites, than on the control plots, respectively. Aspen and alder had no significant effect on the height increment of a silver fir at any of the study sites. The shelter of nurse crops had no effect on the air temperature. The artificial regeneration of a climax silver fir and a pioneer silver birch was beneficial on Tornádo sites. On the other hand, there should be a delay between the regeneration of silver birch and underplanting of fir on the waterlogged sites.

Opis:
The research was conducted on four patches of thermophilous oak wood in Białowieża Primeval Forest: A – with a woodstand: oak + approx. 30-year-old hornbeam + hornbeam brushwood; B – with a hornbeam stand formed by natural seed fall after logging (ca. 1920) oaks; C – after logging oaks and replanted (ca. 1965) with pine and oak; D – with a natural low-density oak stand. Species composition and seed bank density were estimated using the seedling emergence method. Seedling emergence was observed over two vegetation seasons. Research demonstrated that: 1) the species abundance of the seed banks depends on canopy cover (A, B approx. 50 species; C, D approx. 70 species); 2) the floristical similarity (Sørensen’s index) of the seed bank and ground vegetation is higher in the undisturbed patch D (0.50) than in disturbed patches (0.30-0.35); 3) species diversity in plots A, B, C, D (H’=12.5; 13.4; 15.5; 16.9) and seed bank density per m2 (432.5; 958.0; 1486.5; 2268.0) are negatively correlated with the degree of patch shading; 4) the average weight of diaspores in the seed banks of shady plots is lower (A, B approx. 0.003 g) than that of sunny plots (C, D approx. 0.08 g); 5) the share of long-lived diaspores increases in patches after logging.

Opis:
The paper presents an analysis of selected environment elements, which were subjected to anthropopressure in the Lisia Góra forest nature reserve, located within the city of Rzeszów (SE Poland). The main aim of the study was to indicate the intensity and forms of anthropopressure within the relief, soil and vascular flora. Changes in the relief were shown for the period 2010−2019 using the analysis of geomorphological processes and the mapping of anthropogenic terrain forms. Additionally, the litter in the reserve was examined. Soil studies were performed with standard methods in 2016, and the degree of anthropopressure was shown particularly through the parameters of soil compaction and acidification. Changes occurring within the vascular flora were determined by means of anthropogenic indicators of flora changes in the time horizons 2002 and 2016. The results of the studies indicate degradation processes of the studied environment elements in the reserve.
