Opis:
The article is devoted to a topical scientific problem in modern conditions – valuation of land in Ukraine. The imperfection of the existing approaches requires further research on the changing conditions of land use and their impact on land pricing. A methodology for determining the market value of reclaimed land based on a differentiated assessment of its productivity through crop yields is proposed, taking into account natural and climatic zones and other conditions of a particular region. The basis of the methodology is the application of long-term forecast and a set of forecast and simulation models, in particular the model of area climatic conditions and the model of water regime and water regulation technologies on reclaimed land. At that the crop yield model as a complex multiplicative type model takes into account all main factors influencing crop yield formation: weather, climatic and soil conditions, cultivation techniques, water regime of reclaimed land, etc. The proposed approaches were tested by the method of large-scale machine experiment using a land plot in the zone of Western Polissya of Ukraine as the example. The obtained results indicate that there is a differentiation in land value, which is a proportional derivative of the yield of cultivated crops depending on the conditions of their cultivation. The variation range of the studied indicators in relative form by the ratio of maximum and minimum values to the weighted average value is for cultivated crops – 393%, and for the above soils – 44.6%. Thus, within one object, the estimated value of land in view of available soils and cultivated crops varies from USD2456∙ha–1 to USD4005 ∙ ha–1, averaging USD3522 ∙ ha–1 .

Opis:
Scarcity of freshwater is one of the major issues which hinders nourishment in large portion of the countries like Ethiopia. The communities in the Dawe River watershed are facing acute water shortage where water harvesting is vital means of survival. The purpose of this study was to identify optimal water harvesting areas by considering socioeconomic and biophysical factors. This was performed through the integration of soil and water assessment tool (SWAT) model, remote sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) technique based on multi-criteria evaluation (MCE). The parameters used for the selection of optimal sites for rainwater harvesting were surface runoff, soil texture, land use land cover, slope gradient and stakeholders’ priority. Rainfall data was acquired from the neighbouring weather stations while information about the soil was attained from laboratory analysis using pipette method. Runoff depth was estimated using SWAT model. The statistical performance of the model in estimating the runoff was revealed with coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.81 and Nash–Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE) of 0.76 for monthly calibration and R2 of 0.79 and NSE of 0.72 for monthly validation periods. The result implied that there's adequate runoff water to be conserved. Combination of hydrological model with GIS and RS was found to be a vital tool in estimating rainfall runoff and mapping suitable water harvest home sites.

Enzyme activities in soils are influenced by soil characteristics and pollutants and could be indicator of soil quality. This study was undertaken to determine the relationship between physicochemical characteristics, heavy metals contents and enzyme activities (EA) in agricultural soils in the Saiss plain (Morocco). The analysis of six agricultural soil samples (sites 1–6), collected from urban and periurban agricultural soils of Fez region, showed that soils are generally alkaline with high CaCO3 that rich 46%, EC (525–703 μS/cm), rich in organic matter (3.14–5.80%). The Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn concentrations in the studied area are generally greater than the Upper Continental Crust, with a deceasing order: Zn> Cr> Pb> Cu> Ni. Geo-accumulation index showed that soils are unpolluted to moderately polluted except site 5 and site 6 that are moderately to strongly polluted by respectively Cu, Pb, Zn and Pb. Potential ecological rіsk factors were below 40, which means low potential ecological rіsk except site 5 that has moderate potential ecological risk by Cu and Pb. Soil potential ecological risk indices were found <150 indicating low ecological risk. According to this index, Cu caused more serious pollution than the other elements. The enzyme actіvities of the sіx soil samples showed almost the similar ranges of values. These EA showed the highest values in site 5.The sensіtivity of soil enzyme to heavy metals were observed UREA>PHOS>GALA. Pearson’s correlation showed significant posіtive correlatіon between studied soil EA and between these EA and heavy metals (Cu, Pb and Zn), and significant negative correlatіon between EA and heavy metals (Cr and Ni). The results of this study enrich and provide data base of the impact of heavy metals on soil enzyme actіvities in agrіcultural soils in the Saiss plain.

Opis:
Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) ver. 2005 was applied to study water balance and nitrogen load pathways in a small agricultural watershed in the lowlands of central Poland. The natural flow regime of the Zgłowiączka River was strongly modified by human activity (deforestation and installation of a subsurface drainage system) to facilitate stable crop production. SWAT was calibrated for daily and monthly discharge and monthly nitrate nitrogen load. Model efficiency was tested using manual techniques (subjective) and evaluation statistics (objective). Values of Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (NSE), coefficient of determination (R2) and percentage of bias for daily/monthly discharge simulations and monthly load indicated good or very good fit of simulated discharge and nitrate nitrogen load to the observed data set. Model precision and accuracy of fit was proved in validation. The calibrated and validated SWAT was used to assess water balance and nitrogen fluxes in the watershed. According to the results, the share of tile drainage in water yield is equal to 78%. The model analysis indicated the most significant pathway of NO3-N to surface waters in the study area, namely the tile drainage combined with lateral flow. Its share in total NO3-N load amounted to 89%. Identification of nitrogen fluxes in the watershed is crucial for decision makers in order to manage water resources and to implement the most effective measures to limit diffuse pollution from arable land to surface waters.
W pracy przedstawiono zastosowanie modelu Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT – wersja 2005) do analizy bilansu wodnego i dróg przemieszczania się azotu w obrębie małej zlewni rolniczej (Zgłowiączka) w paśmie Nizin Środkowopolskich. Naturalny reżim hydrologiczny Zgłowiączki został silnie przekształcony w wyniku działalności antropogenicznej (wylesianie terenu i instalacja systemu drenarskiego) związanej z prowadzeniem intensywnej produkcji rolniczej.

Opis:
Soil based heavy metals resulting from anthropogenic activities in Kaduna Northern Guinea Savanna of Nigeria was assessed. Soil samples were collected at a depth of 15m with a soil auger using 50m × 50m plots laid in each of the four sites (ST1, ST2, ST3 and ST4) replicated three (3) times to make a total of twelve (12) plots. The assessment was done in two (2) seasons (wet season and dry season). Soil based heavy metals were carried out according to AOAC using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The data collected were analyzed with descriptive statistic as well as Anova using SPSS package. Eleven (11) soil based heavy metals; V, Cr, Mn, Zn, Co, Ni, Cu, Br, Pb, Cd and Fe were revealed in each of the selected sites. There were significant differences (P<0.05) when concentration are compared between seasons within the sites. Higher soil heavy based metals were recorded in the wet season than the dry season in all the sites. The sites behind Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) is significantly higher (P<0.05) in concentration than all other sites while the control (Kamaku National Park) has the least concentration (P<0.05). Pearson correlation showed a significant and positive association between soil based heavy metals and automobile / farming activities in wet season (R = 0.40**) and dry season (R = 0.95**) as well as in industrial / farming activities in wet season (R = 0.88**) and dry season (R = 0.94**) at 0.01 probability level. It is concluded that variation in the assessment of soil based heavy metals in the selected sites are influenced by anthropogenic activities (mainly agriculture and fossil fuel combustion) in the sites. It is recommended that there should be provision for licensing and registration of all major industrial polluters and monitoring their compliance with laid down standard; further research into anthropogenic air pollution and farming activities which leads to increase in soil based heavy metals especially in the Northern Guinea Savanna where there are limited research should be investigated.

Three dimensional soil textural structure in a township was conditionally simulated using a transition pro- bability-based indicator geostatistical method based on 270 soil texture samples from 27 profiles. Additionally the distribution of soil profiles lacking clay interlayers (indicating high irrigation water and nutrient leaching risk) was analyzed using 500 realizations from the simulation. The results indicated that the simulation could predict the soil texture distribution with low uncertainties using the existing data, and the predicted soil map (0-10 cm) formed by the maximum probable soil textures also exhibited a good agreement with the legacy soil survey map. For water and nutrient leaching risk analysis, the areas lacking clay interlayer could be located; however, their distribution was still highly uncertain if based only on the existing sampling data. That means supplementary sampling in future is required for the risk assessment, and the existing study can help to optimise the sampling points and their distribution. Generally, the transition probability-based geostatistical simulation, as a stochastic conditional simulation method, exhibited its potential in soil texture spatial reproduction and related risk assessment.

This paper discusses the setting up of a multivariate statistical method in selecting the useful soil quality indicators for soil quality assessment under agroforestry pattern. The of soil quality has been recognized as a tool to determine the sustainability of land resources, especially in agroforestry development. The study was carried out at Upper Citarum Watershed of Bandung district, West Java province, Indonesia. The soil samples were taken with purposive sampling under agroforestry pattern. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used as the multivariate statistical method to identify the minimum data set (MDS); scoring of each indicator, and data integration in the index of soil quality. The MDS consisted of four soil chemical indicators and represented 83.6% of the variability of data, i.e., pH, and exchangeable Calcium (exch Ca), organic Carbon (org C), and exchangeable Natrium (exch Na) respectively. The soil quality index (SQI) was categorized under agroforestry pattern as moderate. The artificial agroforestry-based coffee with an intercropping system (timber woods, multi purpose trees and horticultures) provides better soil quality.

Soil compactness and its compactibility, allowance made for soil variability, were evaluated. For that purpose current volumetric density was compared with natural volumetric density (according to Wojtasik) and volumetric density of mineral parts (packing density) was calculated. It has been found that the assessment of soil compactness is affected by sampling depth. It has also been proven that the assessment of compactness done for a chosen layer is more dependent on the result of soil volumetric density determination than on soil composition.

The aim of this study was to analyze the problem of soil bulk density used in the evaluation of conditions for plant growth and the assessment of the impact of vehicle wheels and machinery on the ground. Attention was paid to the fact that applying of the bulk density of the soil for such goals, carries a lot of unknowns, hampering the interpretation of the results of determinations. The problem of soil compaction assessment was discussed by: optimum bulk density, critical bulk density and natural bulk density. It was found that the bulk density of the soil is entangled with various relationships that modify its use as the criterion of the assessment of soil condition. Therefore soil compaction assessment should also include at least the following information: name of the plant, soil water content, name of soil textural group and description of soil sampling.

Cement production is renowned for particulate contamination of the environment because of high dust emissions and heavy metals that later deposited in soils, serving as a sink. This study investigated the effect of cement dust pollution on some selected soil nutrients (phosphorous, protein, carbon and nitrogen) of the soil surface around Lafarge cement factory, Sagamu, Ogun State, Nigeria. Fifteen (15) composite topsoil samples of the soil surface were randomly collected in the eastern, western, and southern axes of the factory while control samples were collected 15 km from the factory. The samples were taken from a depth of 0 to 15 cm and analyzed for chemical, physical and microbiological properties. Data were analyzed with ANOVA and Duncan Multiple Range Test. The results showed that Total Organic Nitrogen (TON), Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and Heavy Metals decreased with increasing distance from the cement factory while there was increase in the amount of Soil Protein and Soil Phosphorous. In conclusion, the inverse correlation between most of these heavy metals, the pH, and the activities of the soil nutrients are indicative that pollution caused by cement production exhibit a significant effect on soil nutrients and this may invariably affect the quality and condition of the soil of the area.

Peculiarities of formation, distribution and fertility of typical chernozems on the territory of Europe as a whole and within the agricultural lands of Ukraine were given. It is noted that the existing agro-industrial characteristics of agricultural products least reflect the quality of raw materials and therefore are not analyzed as a factor influencing public health. The relevance of biogeochemical research of food (agricultural) raw materials and the introduction of new criteria for its quality were outlined. The purpose of the presented research was to expand the quality indicators of agricultural products on the basis of topical structure of agricultural landscapes and biogeochemical criteria for evaluating "typical chernozems – cereals and vegetables" systems. A system of biogeochemical parameters and quality criteria of plant products containing two components has been developed. The first component is the spatial differentiation of natural and agro-technological features of agrolandscapes (systems of rocks-typical chernozems-cultures), which highlight the prevalence of nutrients in bedrock, particle size distribution of typical chernozems and the ratio of their prevalence within the administrative regions of Ukraine. There are 12 groups of agricultural landscapes that differ in these features. A set of biogeochemical parameters for the distribution of essential elements in the components of the agricultural landscape, criteria for their ecological balance and impact on the quality of agricultural raw materials.Implementation of the proposed criteria for the quality of agricultural products was carried out on the territories of two agrolandscapes of typical chernozems in the Kyiv and Poltava regions. It was established that the physico-chemical balance of Zn, Cu and excess Mo in the rocks and soils of the agro-landscape of the Right Bank Forest-Steppe is not consistent with biogeochemical deficiency of copper and, in part, zinc in cereals (oats). The physico-chemical balance of Zn, Cu in the soils of the agro-landscape of the Left Bank Forest-Steppe does not agree with the biogeochemical deficiency of zinc in vegetable crops (potatoes, carrots, and beets). On the basis of the biogeochemical criteria for the distribution of Zn, Cu, Mo in agricultural landscapes, the proposed territorial measures to improve the quality of grain and vegetable products to prevent copper and zinc "hidden hunger" in the population.

Detailed and geo-referenced maps identifying the locations of saturated and dry levees can be produced using microwave radiometric measurements from a light aircraft or helicopter, and integrated with GPS for positioning and orientation. The development of synergetic remote sensing technology for raised groundwater and seepage detection by the joint use of microwave and optical data along with GIS databases is an effective and most contemporary way of supporting risk assessment and facilitating disaster prevention and management. In this paper we present a remote sensing microwave technology for monitoring and detection of areas of water seepage through irrigation constructions, levees and dykes as well as for revealing areas with dangerously high groundwater level. The possibility for emergency response mapping, integrated with GPS and GIS data, facilitates the risk assessment and management services. The passive microwave radiometry (PMR) is based on spectral measurements in the millimetre to decimetre range of wavelengths. Compared to other remote sensing techniques, such as colour and infrared photography, thermal images and lidar, PMR is the only technology taking measurements under the earth's surface and therefore is very well suited for water seepage and underground water monitoring in a fast and reliable way.

Geobotanical studies comprised soil and permanent grasslands in the valley of the Por River. The paper describes an assessment of the content of organic matter, reaction (pH) and availability of P, K and Mg in meadow soils overgrown with plant communities classified within the following syntaxonomic units: associations Phragmition and Magnocaricion, orders Molinietalia and Arrhenatheretalia, classes Scheuchzerio-Caricetea nigrae and the order Trifolio fragiferae-Agrostietalia stoloniferae. The results of chemical analyses were confronted with the limit ordinals after IUNG in Puławy (1990) and submitted to statistical analysis using the system of SAS 9.2 from Enterprise Guide 4.2. The analyzed habitats of permanent grasslands had neutral reaction and were dominated by organic soils. Mineral soils occurred in a small area. Generally, a very high or high availability of assimilable P, a low or very low availability of K and a differentiated content of Mg were found in organic soils. In mineral soils, on the other hand, a very high content of P and Mg and a very low content of K were observed. Comparative analyses of selected properties of the habitats showed very significant diversity. Variability coefficients were generally characterized by high values, which points to considerable differentiation of the analyzed properties of the soils within the distinguished syntaxonomic units. Based on our analysis of the Pearson’s correlation coefficients, a number of relations, both positive and negative ones, can be noticed between the properties studied.

Opis:
The article presents the results of monitoring the aftereffect of the use of excessive zonal doses of mineral fertilisers on soil contamination with heavy metals (HM). With traditional soybean cultivation technology, the level of soil contamination when applying excessive doses (N60 P180 K90) of fertilisers is quite high and indicates violations of the ecological balance of the agroecosystem. By the nature of the accumulation of heavy metals in meadow-chestnut soil, depending on the application of the studied doses (P60 K30, N30 P60 K30, N60 P180K90) of fertiliser, the content of HM (Pb, Zn, Cd) increases. The greatest contamination of the soil with Cu was revealed, the content of which increases to 3.2 mg∙kg-1 of soil, which is higher than the threshold of the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) - 3.0 mg∙kg-1. According to the level of contamination of the soil with copper, it belongs to the highly dangerous classes. In a comparative assessment of the level of soil contamination with HM, optimal norms of mineral fertilisers have been established, namely, against the background of effective resource-saving technology for growing soybeans. The application of fertilisers at a dose of P60 K30 and N30 P60 K30 does not significantly affect the level of soil contamination with HM, optimises the ecological state and nutrient regime of the soil, preserves and restores soil fertility indicators, and increases soybean productivity. This resource-saving technology provides a safe environment for soybean cultivation and a significant increase of 34.5-38.6% in crop productivity (0.53-0.76 Mg∙ha-1) and yield (2.57 Mg∙ha-1).

Opis:
Mountainous regions in Iran are important sources of surface water supply and groundwater recharge. Therefore, accurate simulation of hydrologic processes in mountains at large scales is important for water resource management and for watershed management planning. Snow hydrology is the more important hydrologic process in mountainous watersheds. Therefore, streamflow simulation in mountainous watersheds is often challenging because of irregular topography and complex hydrological processes. In this study, the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) was used to model daily runoff in the Taleghan mountainous watershed (800.5 km2) in west of Tehran, Iran. Most of the precipitation in the study area takes place as snow, therefore, modeling daily streamflow in this river is very complex and with large uncertainty. Model calibration was performed with Particle Swarm Optimization. The main input data for simulation of SWAT including Digital Elevation Model (DEM), land use, soil type and soil properties, and hydro-climatological data, were appropriately collected. Model performance was evaluated both visually and statistically where a good relation between observed and simulated discharge was found. The results showed that the coefficient of determination R2 and the Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient NS values were 0.80 and 0.78, respectively. The calibrated model was most sensitive to snowmelt parameters and CN2 (Curve Number). Results indicated that SWAT can provide reasonable predictions daily streamflow from Taleghan watersheds.
Zebrano odpowiednie dane wejściowe do symulacji SWAT: cyfrowy model deniwelacji (DEM), dane o użytkowaniu gruntów, typie i właściwościach gleby oraz dane hydrologiczne i klimatyczne. Współczynniki determinacji R2 i Nasha-Sutcliffa NS wynosiły odpowiednio 0,80 i 0,78.
