Opis:
In the past years, efforts in the field of Software Process Improvement were increasingly focusing on human aspects making one aware that people participating in the processes have a high impact on the success of any improvement. Applying the usability methodology to these problems is a promising new approach to dealing with the people issues in Software Process Improvement. This approach builds on the strengths of the usability perspective, most importantly its rich method library. One of these methods is the cognitive walkthrough method, used extensively by practitioners in software development projects.

Opis:
The article describes the problems of software process improvement. In the first part it presents five models for software process improvement: PDCA, SIX SIGMA, ISO, CMMI and IDEAL. The article points out the important role of reference models and process maturity assessment models in software process improvement. Next, it presents the draft of the concept for software process improvement, where the starting point is the strategy of improving the information system, taking into account issues of strategic management, enhanced with the use of methods and techniques of software engineering. The draft of the concept for software process improvement identifies five stages: identification problems, strategic research and situational analysis of the system, preparation strategy for improvement, preparation project and its execution.

Opis:
Despite the fact that many researchers and practitioners agree that organisational issues are equally important as technical issues from the software cost estimation (SCE) success point of view, most of the research focus has been put on the development of methods, whereas organisational factors have received surprisingly little academic scrutiny. This study aims to identify organisational factors that either support or hinder meaningful SCE, identifying their impact on estimation success. Top management’s role is specifically addressed. The study takes a qualitative and explorative case study based approach. In total, 18 semi-structured interviews aided the study of three projects in three organisations. Hence, the transferability of the results is limited. The results suggest that the role of the top management is important in creating prerequisites for meaningful estimation, but their day-to-day participation is not required for successful estimation. Top management may also induce undesired distortion in estimation. Estimation maturity and estimation success seem to have an interrelationship with software process maturity, but there seem to be no significant individual organisational factors, which alone would make estimation successful. Our results validate several distortions and biases reported in the previous studies, and show the SCE research focus has remained on methodologies and technical issues.

Opis:
There is presented the application of the integrated software tools to the reliability of the improved exemplary complex technical system prediction. There are considered three ways of the exemplary system reliability improvement, i.e. a hot single reservation of its components, a cold single reservation of its components and replacing its components by the improved components with reduced intensities of departure from the reliability state subsets. Automatically obtained, using the computer program CP 8.16, the evaluations of these ways improved exemplary system unconditional multistate reliability function, the expected values and the standard deviations of its unconditional lifetimes in the reliability state subsets and the mean values of its lifetimes in the particular reliability states are presented. Moreover, in the case when the improved system is repairable, its renewal and availability characteristics are estimated using the computer program CP 8.8 with appropriately given data.
