    The article deals with the condition of German minority in Śląsk Opolski since the political system transformation in 1989 up until today. The author focuses on the most important aspects: coexistence within the voivodeship, legistation aimed at regulating the status of minorities in Poland, the characteristics of political, social, cultural, and educational activity. Culture and education and two pillar areas on which the activity of both the leaders and members of a given minority is built on. The presence of German minority cannot be overlooked. Those above-mentioned types of activity are key issues in characterizing the German minority.

    Opis:
    Zakarpattia is perhaps the only region of contemporary Ukraine which during the twentieth century has experienced complex political processes of regionalization and adaptation to different states and their political systems. A characteristic feature of the changes in the region was a frequent transition of political conditions from authoritarian to democratic styles of state governing of the title nations which had implanted in Zakarpattia their political rules trying to change the political culture and political consciousness of local elites and citizens.

    Opis:
    The basic research problem discussed in this article concerns two inextricably linked fundamental issues. The first of them is connected with a specific character of the social capital in the Polish rural women’s environment, which in this paper is defined in terms of social participation and co-operation based on social trust, maintained networks of contacts, and on the system of their shared values and moral norms. Therefore, definite indices of social trust were adopted for this analysis. They are regarded as independent variables, which can determine the direction and the intensity of rural women’ participation in the socio-political life. The other issue refers to establishing a set of determinants-as exhaustive as possible-of the present and potential participation of rural women in the socio-political life and defining the role played by their social capital as one of these determinants.

    W drugiej połowie lat osiemdziesiątych XX w. Komunistyczna Partia Ukrainy znalazła się w stanie głębokiego systemowego kryzysu, co wywołało falę niezadowolenia wśród znacznej części ludności USRR, zwłaszcza w regionach zachodnich, a następnie doprowadziło do demontażu systemu komunistycznego w 1991 r. Artykuł analizuje ogólne tendencje w procesach społecznych i politycznych w USRR w okresie głasnosti, przebudowy i demokratyzacji (1985–1991), charakteryzuje specyfikę powstawania nieformalnych organizacji społecznych i politycznych, Ludowego Ruchu Ukrainy oraz ich postulatów, a także sposobów ich realizacji, omawia stosunki na linii państwo–Cerkiew, a także specyfikę kwestii legalizacji Ukraińskiej Cerkwi Greckokatolickiej i Ukraińskiej Autokefalicznej Cerkwi Prawosławnej w USRR oraz stosunki międzywyznaniowe na przełomie lat osiemdziesiątych i dziewięćdziesiątych XX w. Pokazuje również, że stosunkowa stabilizacja polityczna w pierwszych latach przebudowy zmieniła się po kampanii wyborczej w 1990 r. do Rady Najwyższej USRR i do miejscowych organów władzy, w wyniku czego nastąpiła eskalacja konfliktu politycznego między siłami narodowo- -demokratycznymi a KPU. Wszystko to zaowocowało zdobyciem niepodległości przez Ukrainę 24 sierpnia 1991 r.
    I n the second half of the 1980s, the Communist Party of Ukraine fell into a deep system crisis, which triggered a wave of discontent among this major part of the USSR, particu- larly in the Western regions, and resulted in a disassembly of the communist system in 1991. The article analyses general trends in socio-political processes in the USSR in the period of glasnost, rebuilding and democratization (1985–1991), defines the specifics of the emergence of “informal” social and political organizations, the People’s Movement of Ukraine and their demands, as well as the methods for their implementation, discusses the relations between the state and the Orthodox Church and the specifics of the legalization of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church and of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church in the USSR and the relations between religious associations at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s. It also proves that the relative political stabilization in the first year of the rebuilding changed after the election campaign to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of 1990 and to local authorities, which triggered a political conflict between the national and democratic forces and the Communist Party of Ukraine. This all was crowned by Ukraine’s regaining of independence on 24 August 1991.
