    South Africa is a demographically diverse country where many divisions (still) tend to coincide with racial boundaries, beset by a wide range of socio-economic problems typical of developing countries and otherwise stemming from its colonial past and a discriminatory past policy of apartheid. The paper describes the country's salient features in facts and figures in order to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of society in terms of demography, education, employment, public health care, poverty, housing, crime and the economy. The picture presented tends to be on the dark side, but also hopeful for the future thanks to inter alia a strong globalised economy.

    On June 23, 2016, Britain marked the exit from the European Union. The result led to a permanent closure to the EU, always marked by not joining the Euro by Great Britain itself, with political, social and economic consequences, although England still an important country in Europe. The intent of this paper is to analyse the socio-economic and political implications of this Exit from the Euro zone.

    The paper summarizes the contribution of the Ukrainian and Polish scholars into the study of challenges of European integration in Ukraine. It proves the importance of researching socio-economic problems of Lviv region in the context of European integration. We have described the general characteristics of Lviv region and revealed the advantages of economic and geographical position of the region. It has been analyzed the problems of structural changes in the region’s economy, the challenges of reindustrialization, the investment and foreign economic activity of Lviv region. The special emphasis has been put on the need to transform the region’s economy in order to overcome the long-lasting socio economic crisis.

    W Polsce na terenie wsi spiętrzają się liczne problemy rozwojowe, które na ogół są trudniejsze do rozwiązania niż w miastach. Wieś różnicuje się coraz bardziej, zarówno w ujęciu regionalnym, jaki społeczno-ekonomicznym. Następuje ciągła przemiana tych obszarów, zmienia się też ich funkcja. Zdominowanie przez rolnictwo ustępuje wzrostowi wielofunkcyjności terenów wiejskich. Skutkiem nowych funkcji pozarolniczych wsi jest rozwój małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw, a w konsekwencji zmniejszenie bezrobocia, które jest jednym z ważniejszych problemów tych obszarów. Przed polską wsią i ludnością ją zamieszkującą stoi obecnie wiele wyzwań. Wynikają one głównie z konieczności dalszego dostosowania się rolnictwa i przemysłu rolno-spożywczego do wymagań wspólnego rynku i konkurencji na rynkach światowych. Aby sprostać tym wyzwaniom, mieszkańcy wsi muszą w większym niż dotąd stopniu wykazać się zdolnością do organizowania się wokół wspólnych celów i wspólnego rozwiązywania problemów. Wieś i obszary wiejskie stoją przed poważnymi wyzwaniami, a siły sprawcze tkwią w ich mieszkańcach. Celem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawienie kluczowych problemów społeczno-gospodarczych występujących na obszarach wiejskich województwa podlaskiego oraz zwrócenie uwagi na te z nich, które wymagają pilnej interwencji.
    Polish rural areas are the sites of the accumulation of many development problems, which are generally more difficult to solve there than in cities. The villages differentiate more and more, both inthe regional and socio-economic sense. The transformation of these areas is ongoing, changing theirfunction as well which, dominated by the growth of the multi-functionality of agriculture, gives way to the growing multi-functionality of rural areas. The consequence of the new features of the non-agricultural village is the development of small- and medium-sized enterprises and, consequently, reduced unemployment, which is one of the most important problems of rural areas. The Polish countryside and the population of rural areas currently face many challenges. These arise primarily from the needto further adapt agriculture and the agri-food industry to the requirements of the common market and competition in the global markets. In order to meet the challenges, the residents of rural areas must, to a greater extent than before, demonstrate the ability to organise themselves around common goals and joint problem-solving. The village and rural areas are facing serious challenges and the driving force lies in their residents. The purpose of this paper is to present the key socio-economic problems of rural areas in the Podlasie Voivodeship, and draw attention to those requiring urgent intervention.

    The cities of the Donetsk region are in the center of an armed conflict in Eastern Ukraine. The aim of this paper is to determining the need to implement crisis management in the cities of the Donetsk region. The method of economic and statistical analysis was used to examine the problems of urban development in the Donetsk region. Using the methods of statistical and economic analysis, the author analyzes the consequences of military operations in Eastern Ukraine on the socio-economic development of the cities, and the state of the infrastructure. The results of the study indicate the need for crisis management to reconstruct of the cities in Eastern Ukraine. The necessity for crisis management in the current economic conditions for the cities of the Donetsk region is examined. Anti-crisis management of the development of cities in the Donetsk region should be aimed at optimizing the mechanisms for regulating urban systems in an armed conflict. The author proposes to develop a strategy for the reconstruction of cities in the Donetsk region, taking into consideration their classification. To renew the cities, it is essential to implement a neo-industrialization policy based on a program-oriented approach.

    Odpowiedzi na pytanie zawarte w temacie udzielono w trzech etapach. W pierwszym scharakteryzowano kwestię globalizacji. W drugim zwrócono uwagę na potrzebę dokonania właściwego rozróżnienia w ramach analizy stanu ludzkich społeczności, które podlegają procesom globalizacyjnym. W ramach trzeciego etapu zarysowano możliwość przezwyciężenia bezradności ideologicznych wizji odnoszących się do kwestii społecznych, które dotyczą dokonujących się tzw. społeczno‑ekologicznych procesów mondializacyjnych.
    In the context of the current 21st century globalization processes, the author raises the significance of reflection articulated on the part of the post‑communist and post‑totalitarian communities, the integrating European Union and its member states. This importance stems from the necessity to consider contemporary integration processes from all angles, and not to concentrate only on the intellectual vision of both the European and American West, so apparently permeated with one‑sidedness of interpretation. As it seems, the intellectuals of the West fail to notice the gravity of the fact that secular equivalents of religiousness, which are totalitarianism and western consumer capitalism, have become a mere caricature of human aspirations and ideals, thus distorting intellectual bases of consecutive stages of globalization. The reflection of the article has been contained in three parts. In its first part the author characterises the rising topicality of globalization. Next, he raises the necessity to differentiate between various human communities in the analyses on the current stage of globalization processes. Thus, he recognizes the importance to identify different stages of human communities’ historical development, which due to an enormous progress in technology had to face the reality of globalization. Last but not least, the author attempts to outline the possibilities to overcome ideological helplessness concerning the issue of socio‑ecological problems resulting from the globalization processes in the continental diversity of cultural religious local communities.
