Opis:
The main aim of the paper was the investigation of the relationship between family situation and subjective wellbeing and loneliness among people aged 65 years and more in Poland. For purposes of our analysis we used the 6th wave of the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) carried out in 2015. We employed linear regression and ordered probit models. Our results showed that unpartnered older adults, especially men, were less satisfied with life and more lonely than partnered individuals. Also, the quality of relationship between partners, expressed here by the presence of a spouse in SN seems to be important as well. Older adults who listed a spouse in SN felt less lonely than the others, and those married who did not have a partner in SN were less satisfied with life. Aged individuals having children had higher subjective wellbeing than the childless, although this result was insignificant. The presence of children in SN contributed to a lower life satisfaction and an increased loneliness level (especially for women). Furthermore, the association between having siblings and wellbeing and loneliness is not clear-cut.

Opis:
W grupie klinicznej średnia wieku M = 32,17, a odchylenie standardowe SD = 7,81. W grupie kontrolnej średnia wieku M = 33,23, a odchylenie standardowe SD = 8,35. Wykorzystano następujące narzędzia: Skalę Wsparcia Społecznego Kmiecik-Baran, Kwestionariusz Szczęścia w adaptacji Kaczmarka, Stańko-Kaczmarek i Dombrowskiego, autorską ankietę personalną. Nie wykazano statystycznie istotnej różnicy między grupą osób chorujących i zdrowych ze względu na rodzaj otrzymywanego wsparcia. Wykazano natomiast statystycznie istotne różnice dotyczące sieci wsparcia. W grupie klinicznej wystąpiła zależność między rodzajami wsparcia i niektórymi sieciami wsparcia, np. emocjonalnym, wartościującym, informacyjnym, instrumentalnym, rodziną, przyjaciółmi, służbą zdrowia a dobrostanem.
Hashimoto disease is one of the autoimmune diseases which etiology and course are not totally known. It affects women more often. In addition to characteristics of endocrine diseases of certain etiology, there is an uncertainty among patients due to uncertainties of factors associated with diagnosis and treatment of Hashimoto disease. Experience of illness reduces sense of well-being. In various diseases, especially psychosomatic with increased anxiety, presence of other important people in social support network play an important role in this situation. It was assumed that there is relationship between type and network of support and well-being. There were 60 people in each control and clinical group. The clinical group mean age M = 32.17; SD = 7.81. The control group mean age M = 33.23; SD = 8.35. Following measures were used in this study: Kmiecik-Baran Social Support Scale, Happiness Index and Author’s personal questionnaire. There was no statistically significant difference between group of sick and healthy people due to type of support received. There are statistically significant differences in support networks. In clinical group, there is a relationship between types of support and some support networks, e.g. emotional, evaluative, informative, instrumental, family, friends, health care and well-being.

The main aim of the article is to outline welfare sociology as a potential sub-discipline of sociology and to discuss the issues of broadly defined social welfare. While in contemporary social sciences the literature concerning welfare often focuses on themes such as happiness (psychology), prosperity (economics), or quality of life (sociology), these themes may be considered too narrow and do not reflect the complexity of the issue. However, if one considers the definition of social welfare through the prism of material and non-material needs, as well as the needs expressed individually and collectively, it is possible to attempt a comprehensive study of this phenomenon. The author uses the definition of social welfare to look at research on (a) welfare state regimes, (b) welfare attitudes and (c) issues of work in contemporary capitalism, all to enable the application of research results within the analysis of the title concept.

The aim of the study was to examine the effects of emotional reactivity and support from different sources for the well-being of teenagers on different stages of development. Data on emotional reactivity, perceived social support from different sources and subjective well-being (SWB) was gathered from 180 younger and 135 older adolescents. Regression analyses included emotional reactivity and social support from different sources as predictors of SWB (positive affect, negative affect and life satisfaction). Analyses showed that emotional reactivity predicted all components of SWB. Support was a signifi cant predictor for positive affect and satisfaction, but its specifi c functions depended on age group and its analyzed source. Interaction effects of support with emotional reactivity were signifi cant only among older adolescents - positive affect depended on interaction between emotional reactivity and support from friends, life satisfaction depended on interplay between emotional reactivity and support from teachers.

Opis:
This research was aimed at determining students’ educational well-being, mainly taking into account social pedagogy among secondary schoolchildren in Sri Lanka. The study used a survey research design and a questionnaire instrument for data collection. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select 1350 secondary school students. To analyse the data, the research used descriptive analyses such as mean, standard deviation and multiple regression analysis. The results demonstrate that the social pedagogy and the students’ educational well-being were at moderate levels. Multiple regression analysis, using the stepwise method, showed that the social pedagogy correlated significantly with the students’ educational well-being. However, the study found no significant relationship between the teachers’ academic support and the students’ well-being. The implications of the study indicate that teachers need to have a good relationship with students and implement student-centred teaching methods. Various activities and mechanisms need to be organized to enhance student’s educational well-being related to social pedagogy, incorporating teachers, parents and community members.

Opis:
The study concerns the moderating role of two variables - hardiness and social support - in the relation between job stressors and well-being. It was checked if there is a connection between hardiness and social support, and if these variables are directly related to the level of well-being. It was also hypothesized that hardiness and social support buffer the negative influence of stressors on well-being. The fact that social support and well-being are multidimensional variables was taken into account. The cross-sectional study was conducted on a group of 200 women employed as office workers. The results showed that hardiness correlates with the indexes of emotional support as well as practical support coming from supervisors. The connection, however, was not strong. Hardiness and social support were directly connected with the level of well-being. Interaction of these two independent variables played a marginal role. As far as the buffering role of these variables was concerned, the results have shown that hardiness did not play a buffering role and social support did to a limited degree only. The results of the study proved that it is justifiable to treat social support and well-being as multidimensional variables.

Aim: The aim of this paper is to define the correlation between experiencing personal well-being and manifestations of spirituality of an individual.  Methods: The study involved the citizens of Chernihiv (average age – 33.2 years old): 96 people in total, 40 men and 56 women. The following methods were used: a) to measure the components of personal well-being – Satisfaction with Life scale by E. Diener, Psychological well-being scale by С. Riff, Questionnaire of parameters of subjective social well-being by T. Danylchenko; b) to measure the spiritual component – EPU Plus (Egoism - Personal Uniqueness) by L. Z. Levit, Methodology of measuring social interaction (mentality aspect) by G. L. Voronin. Results: The source of experiencing personal well-being is positive health (physical abilities, absence of physical limitations). Factors that decrease personal well-being are low level of tolerance and the pursuit of pleasure. Personal well-being is ensured by belief about collaboration and experiencing positive health as a state of readiness for activity. Psychological well-being has a negative correlation with basic egoism (the pursuit of pleasure) and a positive one with social egoism (ability to comply one’s needs with the group interests, following social rules and norms). Subjective social well-being relates to the highest egoism (unique self-realization, realization of existing potential in an acceptable way). The orientation towards achieving personal or public goals determines the peculiarities of experiencing well-being in the eudaemonic and hedonistic dimensions.

The aim of this paper is to define the correlation between social evaluation and personal well-being.  Methods. The study involved the citizens of Chernihiv (average age – 31.5 years old): 91 people in total, 37 men and 54 women. The following methods were used: the scale of satisfaction with life scale by Diener, as adapted by Leontiev and Osin (2008); questionnaire of parameters of subjective social well-being by Danylchenko (2015); subjective life satisfaction scale by Lybyna (2008), questionnaire on the peculiarities of evaluation by other people by Danylchenko (2019). Results and conclusion. In Ukrainian society, the most important reference groups are parents and a spouse, while friends and colleagues play a comparatively smaller role. All these groups are more likely to give positive and neutral social evaluations. However, negative evaluations are more likely to come from colleagues and friends, and positive – from family. There are differences in indicators of subjective well-being, social acceptance (as a measure of social well-being) and competence between people who are assessed predominantly positively and predominantly negatively. Subjective well-being is reduced reproaches from reference groups. Praise contributes to the enhancement of subjective social well-being Comparison with other people and the existence of a role model reduces psychological well-being. The filter for the perception of positive and negative evaluations from the social environment is a person’s self-acceptance.

In his recent paper, professor Czapiński analyzes the relationship between social capital and individual well-being in Poland. He concludes that the former has no impact on the latter, which is predominantly driven by human capital. In this paper, we show that this conclusion may not be warranted. Our discussion draws on both theoretical considerations and empirical analysis.

Previous studies of the "happiness curve" have shown that building psychological resilience to limitations typical of elderly people, allows us to reverse the negative trend in the level of subjective well-being. Activities, in the field of social, economic and health policy implemented by local government units and central authorities can improve the quality of aging. The aim of this article is to investigate the determinants of seniors' happiness, with particular emphasis on the potential of senior policy in its support, which will allow the development of a model of "senior well-being policy" and the development of a catalog of recommendations.

Additionally, we also compared how experiencing joy impacts those components of well-being. A randomly chosen 1/3 of the participants was asked to recall an event from their past when they felt grateful. Another 1/3 was asked to recall an event from their past when they felt joy. The final 1/3 of the participants was the control group. Next, all participants filled in the Satisfaction With Life Scale. Then (taking turns) they completed the Social Ties Scale and the Social Trust Scale. Finally, all participants estimated the amount of beneficiary experiences and gratitude they had received in life. The results of the study indicate that both gratitude and joy enhance happiness, and that gratitude and joy play an important, although different in some respects, role as contributing factors to happiness. The results indicate a positive relationship between the balance in gratitude experiences and the examined aspects of well-being.

A total of 843 college students in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies were investigated using a social support evaluation scale, a resilience scale, and a life satisfaction evaluation scale. Results were analyzed using IBM® SPSS 21.0® and Amos 17.0. It was shown that there existed a positive correlation respectively among resilience, social support and life satisfaction. Social support predicted resilience positively and resilience partially mediated the association between social support and life satisfaction. Finally, resilience moderated the association between social support and life satisfaction; the higher the resilience level, the more significant the positive predictive effect of social support on life satisfaction. College students' life satisfaction is closely related to social support and resilience; resilience partially plays a mediating and moderating role between social support and life satisfaction.

The article contains an overview of selected existing indicators of well‐being, mainly from the standpoint of economics. An analysis of classical indicators focusing mostly on material prosperity has been conducted in the first part of the article. Then, the more recent, alternative indicators of well‐being have been cited and briefly reviewed. Those alternative indicators take psychological, social and environmental factors, among others, into consideration. The important idea of sustainable development has also been presented, not only in context of development goals, but also as a concept of living a balanced life with less waste and needless consumption. In the later part, possible directions for measuring well‐being in the future have been presented. It has been noted, that while the classical indicators of well‐being often offer dated and impractical approaches, they prove to be highly useful when combined with analysing other, more contemporary data and indicators, due to the inherent material dimension of satisfying human needs.

Objectives There is a need for up-to-date research on health-care and social managers’ work well-being. The purpose was to develop a questionnaire for measuring health-care and social managers’ subjective work well-being and to determine whether their background factors are connected to their work well-being. Material and Methods The authors developed a questionnaire based on their previous health-care and social managers’ work well-being framework. It covers 5 separate categories: 1) individual factors, 2) social factors, 3) professional support from one’s own manager, 4) organizational factors, and 5) work-related factors. Using statistical methods, the authors examined the questionnaire’s internal validity, its fit with the framework, and the connections between several background factors and work well-being. The survey data (N = 281) were collected from South Osthrobothnia and Central Osthrobothnia in Finland. Results The questionnaire’s internal validity was good, and it fit rather well with the authors’ previous framework. Managers’ work well-being was highest for the category of “professional support from one’s own manager” and lowest for “organizational factors.” The authors found connections between different categories of work well-being and a) years of managerial experience, b) level of management, and c) occupational group. Conclusions The questionnaire gives a holistic view of managers’ work well-being and is suit- able for measuring work well-being in the social- and health-care context. An examination showed that there is a need to improve the individual situations of the social- and health-care managers. The questionnaire can be used to assess managers’ work well-being and to build a knowledge base for developing organizational policies.
