Bush) Science – the endless frontier реконструирует содержание и философские предпосылки общественного договора для науки, затем рассматривает обвинения в его адрес, которые указывают, что концепцию договора нельзя считать адекватной моделью в отношениях наука-общество. Три контрпозиции – новый общественный договор для науки, подчинение науки общественному благу и кооперативная страховка – объединяет убеждение о ключевой роли науки в создании общего блага, общим недостатком является неукорененность в философской концепции человека и общего блага.

    Analizuję obecne negatywne nastawienie do nauki – dosyć powszechne w filozofii i poza nią, w pewnych środowiskach intelektualnych – i dowodzę, opierając się na dystynkcji ideał–praktyka nauki, że zarzuty wysuwane przeciw nauce w filozofii są wątpliwe, dotyczą głównie jej praktyki, a nie jej ideału. Dowodzę, że jednostronne i deformujące obraz nauki są dwa główne argumenty krytyki nauki: o instrumentalizacji rozumu poprzez naukę oraz o opresyjnej roli nauki we współczesnym świecie. Twierdzę, że obecnie powiększająca się przepaść pomiędzy ideałem nauki (tj. jej istotą wyłonioną już w starożytności, ufundowaną antropicznie) a jej dzisiejszą praktyką jest istotnym problemem i obecnej nauki i ludzkiego świata.
    I analyse the contemporary negative attitude toward science—common both in philosophy and beyond it, in intellectual milieus—and demonstrate, by basing on the distinction ideal–praxis of science, that the objections against science in philosophy are doubtful and one-sided. Especially doubtful, deforming the image of science are two main arguments: on instrumentalising reason by science and on the oppressive role of science in the today human world. I claim that the today increasing gap between the ideal of science and its today praxis is an essential problem of the contemporary science and the human world.

    The historian in the contemporary Poland has to fulfil not only the tasks on his workplace, commonly at a state university or in a research institute but he has also commitments which result from the traditional ethos of a man of science. In the public sphere he has to deal with historical politics created by the state and the political forces immediately, which cannot actually be influenced by the scientific circles in a relevant way. The political forces await from the historian the disclosure of such a “truth” which would interpret the existing reality as the possible space for creation of that what ought to be. The associational scientific movement as a traditionally autonomous body concerned with population of knowledge has in this situation the chance and the not utterly fulfilled task of defending of the historical truth, conditioned and determined with the contemporary theory of knowledge.

    Opis:
    A historian (also of medicine) should accept the values and canons of the studied culture, including medical ones, as their own. As Florian Znaniecki pointed out in his works, they should be the researcher’s highest authority. This means that the researcher should deviate from evaluating the ideas and practices of the studied culture from their own perspective. The category of minimal cultural imputation developed by Wojciech Wrzosek shows that it is not an easy process. However, the application of the subjective-rational perspective to the interpretation has already become an obvious approach. An open and much less obvious problem is the role of the historian of science when they venture to make comparisons between past and present scientifi c cultures. By doing so, do they still remain a historian, or - by undertaking such comparisons and evaluations - do they abandon the role, assuming the position of, for example, methodologist? The author of the article outlines the possibilities of separating these roles, presenting the attitude of a ‘methodologist’ who searches in the past for the roots and theoretical justifi cations for contemporary paradigms of their discipline, using the latter to evaluate the past. However, the possibility of a non-evaluative dialogue between the cognizing culture and the cognized culture is also shown, where the former also includes the specialist knowledge of a contemporary researcher interested in the past of their discipline. The historiography of a given science appears here as a record of the self-knowledge of a given generation of researchers - as their self-refl ection. As Jan Pomorski calls it, a researcher assuming such a role appears as homo metahistoricus in their field of study.

W celu rozpoczęcia zapełniania owej luki artykuł przedstawia genezę, charakterystykę oraz główne punkty programowe nurtu humanistycznego zarządzania.
    The humanistic turn in management is rapidly developing in the broader international academic context, as well as in Poland, where it even has acquired an official status as a specific academic discipline. However, there is a distinct paucity of published reflections on the links between management and the humanities and the legitimacy of the separation of a humanistic and economic approach to management. The article aims at launching the process of filling this gap by presenting the genesis and proposing characteristics and the main leading principles of humanistic management.
