Stara się wskazać mechanizmy rozdźwięku między powszechnie obowiązującym - obecnym w oficjalnym dyskursie - mitem odważnego, prostego żołnierza, otoczonego szacunkiem i wdzięcznością kolejnych pokoleń i zapomnieniem o inwalidach. Akcentuje swoiste konkurowanie ze sobą społecznego zapominania i społecznej pamięci Wielkiej Wojny Ojczyźnianej. Wskazuje na filtrowanie pamięci zbiorowej, usuwanie z niej elementów zakłócających odświętny wizerunek weterana i przez to naruszających utrwaloną tożsamość grupy.
    By discussing the history of the center for the Great Patriotic War veterans opened on the Island of Valaam (the Republic of Karelia, Russia) in the early 1950s, the article searches for the roots and reasons for the “social oblivion“ that affected the war wounded veterans, many of them amputees. The author tries to point to the mechanisms that account for the discrepancies between the official myth of the brave and simple soldier, respected and admired by the younger generations, and the grim fate of the crippled war veterans doomed to oblivion. She emphasizes that when it comes to the Great Patriotic War, social oblivion has often “competed” with social remembrance. She also shows what kind of filters have been applied to the Russian collective memory, and how the elements not fitting the official gala image of war veterans have been excluded as they could potentially undermine the shared group identity.

    Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kiev is not just a geographic location, the city’s central square, but an area of freedom etched on the topography of the Ukrainian collective memory, an element of the symbolic resources on which today’s Ukrainian identity is founded. The concept of “Maidan” is filled with rich symbolic content. Maidan has become a social, political, ethical and religious category. Ukrainian revolution, Crimean crisis, separatist aspirations in Donetsk and Lugansk show how complicated the nation-building processes in Ukraine are. The role of Maidan in shaping citizenship among the competitive strategies of identity is worth noting. The question arises if a modern political nation was born in Maidan. Referring to my own observations made in Kiev in January and February 2013, the Ukrainian media coverage and numerous conversations with residents of Kiev, I would like to point to Kiev’s Maidan as a symbol in contemporary collective identity of Ukrainians.

    The aim of the article is to present the issue of educational work carried out in a spirit of axiological education in the former Krakow ghetto and the former labor and concentration camp Plaszow in Kraków. The significance of the activities consists of the acquisition of knowledge about the difficult local history of the Holocaust and its heritage by confrontation with the ghetto and the former camp and relics of the past. The key area for dealing with the issues of harm, responsibility and awakening is social work, which in its axiological aspect largely focuses on reflection on the theory and practice relating to the complex issue of responsibility. These activities not only stimulate the historical awareness of totalitarianisms and the memory of them in the social and moral dimension, but also and most importantly they are a precondition for the mental health and moral development of a person, family, group, and social community.

    The subject matter of this text is a broad context of social activities focused on the institution of the museum. These activities comprise initiating procedures for establishing the culture of remembrance and civic responsibility in order to strengthen the cultural heritage in creating the local community, in the social and cultural, and social and economic sense. The texts refers to a statement in Resolution no.6 from the 1st Congress of Polish Museum Professionals that ‘it is essential to launch a programme, within the framework of programmes of the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage, which would directly support pro-museum social activities’. Another important message is that this statement creates new creative possibilities based on activating the participation potential of institutions of the culture of remembrance. The author highlights the importance of launching the procedures of the Social Capital Development Strategy, as well as other tools whose activation is the responsibility of the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage. These reflections are supplemented by a regional annex with short descriptions of cultural initiatives in Ostróda County (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeshop), carried out thanks to community actions, which is focused on revealing the inhabitants’ needs for integration by creating local institutions of the culture of remembrance
    Przedmiotem rozważań niniejszego tekstu jest szeroki kontekst działalności społecznej skoncentrowanej wokół instytucji muzeum. Działania te to inicjowanie procedur służących budowaniu kultury pamięci i obywatelskiego poczucia odpowiedzialności za wzmocnienie roli dziedzictwa kulturowego w tworzeniu wspólnoty lokalnej, w wymiarach społeczno-kulturowym i społeczno-ekonomicznym. Tekst odnosi się do zapisu uchwały nr 6 I Kongresu Muzealników Polskich, iż należy stworzyć – w ramach programów Ministra Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego – program bezpośrednio wspierający promuzealne działalności społeczne. Ważne jest też przesłanie, że zapis ten otwieranowe możliwości kreacyjne i stwórcze, oparte na uaktywnianiu partycypacyjnego potencjału instytucji kultury pamięci. Autor wskazuje tu na istotność zainaugurowania procedur Strategii Rozwoju Kapitału Społecznego i innych narzędzi, których uruchomienie leży w gestii Ministra Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego. Rozważania uzupełnia aneks regionalny, zawierający krótkie opisy inicjatyw kulturotwórczych w powiecie ostródzkim (woj. warmińsko-mazurskie), realizowanych we wspólnotowym działaniu, nakierowanym na ujawnianie potrzeb integratywnych mieszkańców poprzez tworzenie lokalnych instytucji kultury pamięci.

    The paper presents findings of the comparative study on relationships between remembrance story-telling and the transitional reconstruction of political identities. It identifies in which areas and fields of impact governments tend to use interpretations of the past to promote new leadership visions of society. Moreover, it verifies theoretical hypotheses related to the politicised remembrance and its role as a political asset during transformations, as well as it considers the theoretical framework of democracy-building (and a common prediction of its universal character). As a result, the study offers a detailed picture of the way remembrance narratives are transformed into explanations, justifications or legitimisation of new, post-authoritarian identities based on qualitative-to-quantitative analysis of the intensity of story-telling and its links with transitional identity politics. In the conclusion, the Authors present their consideration of research findings, and they discuss it with reference to the nature of transitional government’s remembrance policy as a sphere of social influence.

    Oceny i wyceny krajobrazu stosowane w zarządzaniu przestrzenią opierają się zwykle na wymiernej wartości użytkowej. Równie ważna, choć trudniej mierzalna jest społeczna wartość krajobrazu związana z jego walorami estetycznymi, informacyjnymi, emocjonalnymi i symbolicznymi. Tego problemu dotyczyły badania przeprowadzone przez autorów na terenie ziemi średzkiej. Zastosowano w nich metodę zintegrowanej oceny, uwzględniając aspekty preferencji przestrzennych i „historycznej pamięci” społeczności lokalnych.
    Landscape assessments and valuations which are used in spatial management are usually based on measurable use value. The social value of landscape related to its aesthetic, informative, emotional and symbolic values is equally important, but it is more difficult to measure it. The authors investigated this problem in the Środa Wielkopolska region. The integrated assessment method was used, including the aspects of spatial preferences and ‘historical remembrance’ in local communities.

    Celem artykułu jest analiza zjawiska prostytucji w ujęciu społeczno-demograficznym w latach 50. XX wieku. Wykorzystane w rozprawie źródła (głównie dokumenty sporządzone przez Ministerstwo Spraw Wewnętrznych i Komedę Główną Milicji Obywatelskiej) zostały przeanalizowane i poddane krytyce. W oparciu o nie i literaturę przedmiotu, przeprowadzono analizę i określono specyfikę prostytucji do końca lat 50. XX wieku. Analiza obejmowała między innymi: cechy społeczno-demograficzne prostytutek, ich rodzaje oraz problemy prostytuujących się kobiet, szczególnie zdrowotne. Podkreślenia wymaga także charakter zjawiska. W większości przypadków była to prostytucja uliczna, częściowo lokalowa, której dalsza ewolucja nastąpiła w latach 60. XX wieku.
    The aim of the article is to analyse the phenomenon of prostitution from the point of view of the socio-demographic situation of the 1950s. The sources used in the research (mainly documents drawn up by the Interior Ministry and the General Headquarters of Civic Militia) have been analysed. They, as well as other sources, served as a basis for a further analysis to define the prostitution of the end of the 1950s. The analysis included, inter alia, the socio-demographic features of prostitutes, their types and problems, especially connected with health. The character of the phenomenon should be paid a special attention to. In most cases it was a street prostitution, and its later evolution took place in the 1960s.
