    Suite à la publication de Germinal en 1885, la critique a classé Zola comme un écrivain « socialiste ». Le romancier lui-même a utilisé ce qualificatif plusieurs fois en parlant de son œuvre. En même temps, il ignorait la doctrine marxiste et était un adversaire déclaré de la révolution, ainsi que de l’égalité et du gouvernement par le peuple. Le présent article se propose d’expliquer quelques aspects du « socialisme » de Zola compte tenu de ses origines, ses expériences de jeunesse et l’évolution de son œuvre, ce qui permettra de comprendre le sens particulier que l’écrivain donnait à ce terme.
    When Germinal was published in 1885, the critic classified Zola as a “socialist” writer. The author himself used this adjective many times referring to his work. At the same time, he didn’t know Marxism and was a resolute opponent to revolution, equality and the government by the people. The paper aims to explain some aspects of Zola’s “socialism” taking into account his origins, his youth experiences and the evolution of his works. This might help to understand the particular meaning done to the term by the writer.

    Looking at the modern events shouldn't we claim that it is impossible to create the positive order of the world there where the human souls are running wild? This strict but at the same time full of realism statement of the Head of the Catholic Church taken from the encyclical on the Christian hope has often appeared in the social teaching of the Church in the recent years, it is repeated in a different form during the Benedict XVI's meetings with the high and mighty of this world and the faithful. This „decline of the souls” is the first reason for the economic crisis. It is a challenge which must be faced by the goodwill people. The rejection of the natural law and the God's law expressed in the Decalogue does not make a human being happier but it introduces divisions, social conflicts and the exploitation. Therefore, the moral revival of people and societies, the respect for human dignity and people's natural rights must go hand in hand with the wise political and economic activities in order to solve the modern „social issue”. Without the moral revival, all other solutions, which can be expected looking for example, at the Polish political scene after the last election, sooner or later will turn against the human being and will cause the irretrievable social damage.

    This paper tries to look at the principle (virtue) of solidarity as a potential tool for overcoming contemporary dangers of social life, especially in their economic aspect. The discussion concentrates on the historical development of the social teaching of the Church in the last two decades, that is from the announcement of John Paul II's encyclical Sollicitudo rei socialis (30December 1987) until the publication of Benedict XVI's social encyclical Caritas in veritate (7 July 2009). The paper presents a comparative analysis of the two documents in question, focusing on their understanding of the concept of solidarity. Also, the paper proposes ways of its practical application as a principle that can regulate economic activities undertaken on the micro- and macro-social scale. The analysis developed in the paper also involves presenting the principles of social life and primary values as teleologically vital for the discourse within social teaching of the Church, along with the reference to the prophetic and critical aspects of that teaching, and to the change of orientation in moral theological studies it entails.

    The Philosophy of Care finds in human life a sort of calling to take care of each other. This vocation for every human being is based on the vulnerability that belongs to the human condition. Among ordinary dimensions of vulnerability/care (such as eating, resting, learning, transporting, nurturing), one that is very ordinary and even broader is that of image. Theory of Politeness deals with this image care, responding to its vulnerabilities.Care is a central reality of human relationality, which requires a process of practical learning. Virtues are the concrete reality of the growth of the person. Pertinent for image care are the virtues related to truth, those related to dependence and autonomy, and the traditionally-called social virtues. After a long evolution of the latter from classical thought to the Middle Ages, it remains a system of virtues that illuminates the current way to perceive the image, its care, and the rights and duties related to image. The current propensity to safeguard goods through laws is transforming the type of “debt” that corresponds to virtues like truthfulness, liberality and affability, earlier acknowledged as being not very coercive. Leaving aside possible political proposals, this phenomenon draws attention to the deep humanity of such fields, where people sometimes presume a responsibility that presses the conscience more than duties endorsed by laws. The vocation to care transforms everybody into a caregiver, with the widest sphere in the case of the image.

    Poza brakami danych, wynikającymi z niechęci ludzi do udziału w badaniu lub ich niedostępnością w trakcie badań terenowych, istotnym składnikiem całkowitego błędu pomiaru sondaży są braki danych będące efektem unikania przez respondentów odpowiedzi na niektóre pytania kwestionariuszowe. Wykorzystując dane Europejskiego Sondażu Społecznego z lat 2008–2018, analizujemy braki odpowiedzi na pytanie o całkowity dochód netto gospodarstwa domowego. Głównym celem było sprawdzenie, czy złożoność struktury gospodarstwa domowego skłania respondentów do uchylania się od odpowiedzi na pytanie o dochód. Modelując prawdopodobieństwa unikania odpowiedzi wykorzystaliśmy wielopoziomowe modele regresyjne przyjmując, iż na skłonność jednostek do nieodpowiadania wpływ ma również kontekst krajowy. W artykule pokazaliśmy, że większą skłonnością do nieodpowiadania charakteryzują się osoby zamieszkujące bardziej liczne gospodarstwa domowe, posiadające dochody z mniej stabilnych źródeł oraz o bardziej złożonej strukturze rodzinnej.
    Apart from unit nonresponse, a failure to respond to a particular survey question is a crucial component of the Total Survey Error. This article looks at item nonresponse to a household’s total net income in the European Social Survey (2008–2018). We explore whether the task complexity mechanism is responsible for the likelihood of nonresponse to the income question. Additionally, we consider cross-country differences in national economies and labour market conditions, which we argue might also affect the propensity not to report income. When modelling the probability of avoiding responses, we used multi-level regression models, assuming that the national context also influences the inclination of individuals to fail to respond. The article showed that people living in more numerous households, with income from less stable sources and a more complex family structure, are more prone to not responding.

    The agrarian question, as a concept of legal language, has its sources in other sciences, first of all, in sociology, economics and political science, where historically it is defined as a gap between the demands of the developing life and the existing relations, which no longer correspond to the emerging needs. Over the years the content of the agrarian question in Poland has evolved, keeping, however, the processes of the industrialization of agriculture in the focus. Recent years have brought about a profound change in the interpretation of the agrarian question. Its content is nowadays shaped by three fundamental factors: the balance of agroecosystems and access to agricultural resources; food security and safety; globalization processes and social movements, in which the idea of participation of agricultural producers and rural population in social market economy is realized. Each of the aspects indicated is a challenge for contemporary parliamentarism.
    Kwestia agrarna jako pojęcie języka prawniczego ma swoje źródła w innych naukach, przede wszystkim w socjologii, ekonomii i politologii, gdzie historycznie jest definiowana jako rozdźwięk między wymaganiami rozwijającego się życia a istniejącymi stosunkami, które przestały odpowiadać pojawiającym się potrzebom. Na przestrzeni lat treść kwestii agrarnej w Polsce ewoluowała, utrzymując jednak w centrum uwagi procesy industrializacji rolnictwa. Ostatnie lata dokonały gruntownej zmiany w interpretacji kwestii agrarnej. Jej treść współcześnie kształtują trzy zasadnicze czynniki: równowaga agroekosystemów oraz dostęp do zasobów rolnych; bezpieczeństwo żywnościowe i bezpieczeństwo żywności; procesy globalizacyjne oraz ruchy społeczne, w których realizowana jest idea partycypacji producentów rolnych i ludności wiejskiej w społecznej gospodarce rynkowej. Każdy ze wskazanych aspektów jest wyzwaniem dla współczesnego parlamentaryzmu.

    Opis:
    In the late 19th century “The Southern question” as a complex of problems caused by the sharp economic, social and cultural backwardness of the southern Italian regions, became one of the central themes in the literature of Italian verism. As being not resolved till the end, this problem appears again in the literature of neorealism in the works of Francesco Jovine, Rocco Scotellaro, Leonardo Sciascia and others. European reader is familiar with this problem first of all in the connection with the novel “Christ stopped at Eboli” by Carlo Levi that was translated and published in 1955. This article represents itself the attempt of historical-anthropological interpretation of the novel by Levi: the results of author's complex conception of the world and human are given; the main stylistic principles and devices of South Italy social and economical problems realization in the context of the literature of neorealism are revealed; Levi's conceptual-stylistic innovation and his conception of “The Southern question” solution by means of fiction literature are represented.
    „Kwestia południowa” jako zespół problemów spowodowanych ostrym zacofaniem gospodarczym, społecznym i kulturowym południowych regionów Włoch stała się jednym z głównych tematów literatury włoskiego weryzmu końca XIX w. Problem ten, nie do końca rozwiązany, pojawia się ponownie w literaturze neorealizmu w twórczości Francesco Giovine, Rocco Scotellaro, Leonardo Shacha i innych. Artykuł jest próbą historyczno-antropologicznej i literackiej analizy powieści Karla Leviego: przedstawiono wyniki wszechstronnej analizy autorskiej koncepcji świata i człowieka; ukazane są główne zasady i metody artystyczne ucieleśnienia problemów społecznych i gospodarczych południowych Włoch w kontekście literatury neorealistycznej; Zaprezentowano ideowo-artystyczną innowacyjność Leviego oraz oryginalność autorskiego rozwiązania „kwestii południa” za pomocą estetycznego wyrazu rzeczywistości.
    “Паўднёвае пытанне” як комплекс праблем, абумоўленых рэзкай эканамічнай, сацыяльнай і культурнай адсталасцю паўднёвых абласцей Італіі, стаў адной з цэнтральных тэм у літаратуры італьянскага верызму канца ХIХ ст. Так і не стаўшы да канца вырашанай, гэтая праблема зноў паўстае ў літаратуры неарэалізму ў працах Франчэска Джовіне, Рока Скотэларо, Леанарда Шаша і інш. Артыкул уяўляе сабой спробу гісторыка-антрапалагічнага і літаратуразнаўчага аналізу рамана Карла Леві: прыведзены вынікі комплекснага аналізу аўтарскай канцэпцыі свету і чалавека; выяўлены асноўныя мастацкія прынцыпы і прыёмы ўвасаблення сацыяльных і эканамічных праблем Паўднёвай Італіі ў кантэксце літаратуры неарэалізму; прадстаўлена ідэйна-мастацкае наватарства К. Леві і своеасаблівасць рашэння аўтарам “паўднёвага пытання” сродкамі эстэтычнага выказвання рэальнасці.
