    In order to answer the research questions, the visual and conversation analyzes of a part of the selected work of art (a cartoon) were carried out and presented. The work was submitted by a student of an upper-secondary school to the Polish Nationwide Sociological Competition „Life on the Internet” organized by the Institute of Sociology of the University of Economy in Bydgoszcz. The competition had been inspired by the similar undertakings carried out in Poznań by Florian Znaniecki in the beginnings of the 20th century. The project bases on the assumption that the social reality is a creation of constant, everyday interactions taking place between its members and the objects to which social meanings were given. The Internet, still remaining in the phase of social construction, is such an object, too, and the source of meanings for it are the complex interactions between the Internet-users. Therefore, it has been assumed that the users direct their actions towards the object basing on the meaning they have for it. The aim of the paper is to reply to the question of what meanings are socially given to the Internet within the everyday (habitual) social interactions via the text (language), the social actions and the images.

    Opis:
    The paper refers to the new mobilities paradigm as a perspective of describing contemporary social phenomena related to mobility and movement. It points to the interdependence between new forms of action taken by social actors and technological development. Three dimensions of the relationships between technology, mobility and social significance are described: the understanding of space, the understanding of time and identity of an individual and an agency. The most important assumption of the paper is that mobility is socially defined. Based on the results of a qualitative empirical research, several ways of social understanding of mobility are identified: portability, accessibility, internet connectivity, comparison with analogue/stationary systems. As a result, mobility has not been shown as a permanent social characteristic, but as a potentiality.
    Artykuł odnosi się do paradygmatu nowych mobilności (new mobilities paradigm) jako perspektywy opisu współczesnych zjawisk społecznych związanych z mobilnością i przemieszczaniem się. Wskazuje na zależność pomiędzy nowymi formami działań aktorów społecznych a rozwojem technologicznym. Opisuje trzy wymiary relacji technologia – mobilność – znaczenia społeczne: rozumienie przestrzeni, rozumienie czasu oraz tożsamość i podmiotowość jednostek. Najważniejszym założeniem artykułu jest jednak to, że mobilność jest definiowana społecznie. Na podstawie wyników jakościowych badań empirycznych wskazano kilka sposobów społecznego rozumienia mobilności: możliwość przenoszenia, dostępność, łączność z Internetem, porównanie z analogowością/stacjonarnością. W rezultacie mobilność pokazano nie jako stałą cechę społeczną, ale jako potencjalność.

    In the following article, the author presents an analysis of meanings projected onto intellectual disabilities by the internet users by referring to the cultural model of disability, the theory of social constructivism, as well as, to the post-structuralist discourse theories. In accordance with the cultural model of disability theory, the author perceives intellectual disability as generated by social practices, and as a “product” of discourse. A discourse perceived as a “system of statements” and as a practice that shapes the subjects which it speaks of. From this perspective, intellectual disability is perceived as a phenomenon created by its continuing interpretations. By applying the critical discourse analysis, the article presents an answer tok users? The presented means of comprehending and perceiving intellectual disability, its revealed meanings included in the internet discourse dthe question: how is intellectual disability defined and interpreted within the internet discourse, what meanings are projected onto intellectual disability by the networetermine the current assortment of practices regarding how society responds to otherness.

    This paper analyzes the meanings attributed to work in contemporary Polish society in the context of Inglehart and Welzel’s claim regarding the passage from survival to self-expression values. Research has documented a systematic decline in the position of work on the list of the most important values. However, work is also documented as being of fundamental importance for identity, self-esteem, and the delimitation of social categories. The authors offer a mixed-methods approach to the issue of work. Based on quantitative data gathered through the EVS, they place Poland in the context of European trends pertaining to the significance and centrality of work. Using qualitative evidence, the authors identify and reconstruct the key social representations employed to think about and discuss work-related issues. In conclusion, they point to structural elements of the social imaginary of work that result in the coexistence of different (often contradictory) perceptions of this sphere of social life.

    W większości współczesnych badań socjologicznych wartości są traktowane jako atrybut jednostki i analizowane przez odwołanie do funkcji, jakie pełnią w motywowaniu indywidualnych działań. W tekście tym przyjmuję, że wartości są wytworem procesów kolektywnych, wyłaniają się poprzez uwspólniania znaczeń i sensów wytwarzanych w toku praktyk społecznych. Jako takie, pełnią ważną funkcję w społeczeństwie – legitymizują system, nadają sens instytucjom, wyznaczają kierunki działania aktorów społecznych. Wykorzystując ukute przez A. Touraine’a pojęcie „postspołecznego” świata, w którym aktorów społecznych zastępują aktorzy moralni, stawiam pytanie o to, wokół jakich wartości aktorzy ci organizują swoje działania.
    In the majority of contemporary sociological studies values are considered to be attributes of persons and are analyzed in terms of their role in motivating individual behaviour. In this text it is assumed that values are a product of collective processes, they emerge through sharing meanings and senses that are worked out in the course of social practices. Therefore, they have a very important function in the society: they legitimize the system, make institutions meaningful, define the direction of action for social actors. Using the concept of a post-social world coined by A. Touraine, in which social actors are replaced with moral ones, the author studies the values around which such actors organize their activity.

    Although the popularity of recreational pole dancing continues to gain momentum, its prevailing association with the erotic sphere and resulting stereotypes shape it as a borderline activity. Notably, the way pole dancing is approached and enacted elucidates how bodies, especially female embodiment, are socially constructed and controlled. Thus, to look at that issue from recreational female polers’ perspectives, this article sheds light on how their understandings of the body evolve with their engagement in the leisure activity at hand. That process is analyzed in the context of how women deal with tensions that arise while they navigate between the internalized societal expectations concerning desired femininity and personal agency. Drawing on ethnographic and interview data from pole dance studios in Poland, I discuss how polers’ perspectives on their bodies change from personal and interactional ‘limitations’ to embracing their bodies as interactional partners with whom to achieve their goals. In the process of learning by doing, women get to know their bodies and develop with them a relationship based on trust. Subsequently, growing to understand the bodies as their substantial selves that functionality allows them to achieve the ‘impossible’ as one empowers women. At the same time, I highlight how the process of espousing alternative perceptions of one’s body unfolds under the umbrella of an internalized frame of meanings concerning female embodiment that lures women to fit societal expectations. The interplay between the two sheds light on how female polers navigate toward reclaiming their self-confidence from the clutches of the critical social gaze while negotiating the notion of their bodies. Compelling in that regard is how relying on erotic associations with recreational pole dancing in terms of inciting empowerment through a sexual agency, as some studios do, plays out and factors into female pole dancers’ experiences concerning their leisure activity.
