Opis:
Physical differences associated with birth-date among athletes of the same selection year have been described as the Relative Age Effect (RAE). The aim of this study was to examine whether RAE still exists in soccer and running sport disciplines as well as to evaluate its progress among different gender, age, and sport context and if it has an effect on performance. Using official archives of the international sports’ associations (World Athletics-UEFA), birthdates and performance were collected for 7226 athletes (4033 males; 3198 females) who participated in soccer and running events. A chi-square test was used to assess differences between observed and expected birth date distributions. The study showed an over-representation of athletes born in the first quarter of the selection year for both soccer and running events. RAE is more obvious in younger age groups and in sports that require higher explosive speed, strength, power and anaerobic capacity such as soccer and short distance sprints. It was also found that RAE is associated with performance. In conclusion, athletes of younger age groups with greater biological age have a physical advantage in explosive sports (i.e. soccer and short distance running) that probably does not predict their future development.

The aim of the study was to assess the leadership style of soccer coaches who work in youth development clubs in the city of Barueri- SP, Brazil, implementing descriptive research based on the application of the Scale ELRE version of self-perception. 25 male soccer coaches participated in the study, aged between 24 and 57 years (average 41.32±11.65 years) and the statistical treatment of data applied the calculation of Cronbach's Alpha for reliability, mean, standard deviation and median for the dimensions of the instrument. The results related to the Alpha showed stability of the instrument with a total value of 0.87. Regarding the mean, median and standard deviation for each dimension, it has been found that the situational dimension was of 4.21±0.84 (median=4), social behavior support was 3.71±1.31 (median=4), in behavior training-instruction was 4.46 ±0.74 (median=5), for the democratic dimension the average was 3.16 ±1.12 (median=3); autocratic was 3.06 ±1.48 (average=3) and finally concerning the dimension positive reinforcement was revealed at an average of 4.28 ±0.97 (median=5). Therefore, on the basis of the data analysis we can infer that in soccer the predominant behavior of coaches consists of the adoption of positive reinforcement and training-instruction.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, there has been a growth in the number of woman at soccer stadiums. These women are supporters not only of the national teams but also of local clubs. Although the stadium socialization of women, in which their identity is shaped through their connection with a club and integration in the fan community, is not a new phenomenon, particularly in western European countries, it has not yet been thoroughly studied, including in terms of women’s separate social roles. The authors’ aim is to present the broader context for the appearance of women in stadiums, with selected aspects of women’s fandom as described by western scholars. The authors also discuss what is known at present on the subject in Poland. This is not an exhaustive and multidimensional analysis, but only a signaling of certain interesting analytical categories; thus the ideas contained in the article are primarily of an exploratory nature, though based on empirical data.

Opis:
In the following article, the author discusses the connections between the worlds of music and football, how they used to look in the past decades and how they look in the modern times. He refers to the sociological studies that try to explain so close connections between these two different worlds. He addresses stadium chants, which, in his opinion, should be treated as a phenomenon that is underestimated in the public debate when the subject of collective music performances is covered. He shows, by the example of Poland and England, the differences of the fans’ musical customs, depending on the country. Another important element of the paper are examples of the national anthems’ huge meaning for the national football teams’ matches. Author cites musical compositions inspired by football and tells stories of the songs that became the fans’ informal anthems. He shows many figures that connect the concert halls with the dressing rooms of the most important stadiums in the world – musicians that love football and footballers who have exceptional musicalknowledge or even start they own musical career. Moreover, the author describes the new ways of using music in the modern football in order to change football games into the impressive shows that engage all senses of the spectators.

Opis:
The primary objective of this study is to conduct a comparative analysis of change of direction (COD) and agility among players engaged in soccer, basketball, and handball. Additionally, the researchers introduced the novel concept of “Agility deficit”, aimed at evaluating distinctions between COD and agility during running (COD-R; Agility-R) and dribbling (COD-D; Agility-D). The participant cohort comprises 38 individuals with an average age of 20.63 years, distributed across 13 handball players, 12 soccer players, and 13 basketball players. Statistical analyses, specifically ANOVA accompanied by Tukey’s post hoc comparisons, have been employed to discern significant differences among subgroups. While no noteworthy disparities among groups were observed in both COD-D and Agility-D when participants manipulated the balls using their hands, a marked superiority in performance emerged for soccer players when the balls were manipulated with their legs. Soccer players exhibited expedited responses compared to their basketball and handball counterparts when confronted with a visual stimulus during the Agility-R test (reduced Agility-R deficit). Furthermore, the Agility-D deficit underscored the heightened visual challenge to react in visual stimuli during dribbling in soccer. Independent of the type of ball handling, soccer players consistently demonstrated a diminished Agility-D deficit, affirming their superior visual ability. The performance in Agility-D further revealed that visual ability plays a pivotal role in influencing dribbling ability. The study posits that, for a comprehensive assessment of a player’s visual ability during running or dribbling, interpretations of both Agility-R deficit and Agility-D deficit are imperative. Consequently, the proposed indexes of Agility-R deficit and Agility-D deficit present valuable tools for evaluating players’ COD and Agility abilities during running or dibbling. However, the efficacy of these assessments in real-game situations remains undetermined, requiring further investigation.

Opis:
The aim of the present study was to examine how various playing positions and opponent team ranking affect the covered distances and the acceleration and decelerations profile of a team during 2018-19 Greek SuperLeague. StatSport GPS system recorded in match-play real-time both the players’ covered distances (m) and the number of acceleration/deceleration runs (n) in zones from 3 m/s2 to 10 m/s2. The descriptive statistics showed that the players’ mean covered distances were 10289 m per match. The MANOVA revealed significant differences of the players’ covered distances in all intensity zones in relation to their playing positions (F(12, 513.567)=41.862; p=0.000) and the opponent team ranking (F(3,189)=3.687; p=0.013). Furthermore, no significant interactions were observed between the playing positions and the opponent team ranking (F(12, 500.339)=1.149; p=0.318). Moreover, no significant differences were recorded regarding the opponent team ranking with the amount of accelerations (F(1,189)=0.501; p=0.480) and decelerations (F(1,189)=1.342; p=0.248). Summarizing, the current study showed the high-demanding competitive performance of midfielders, full backs and forwards regardless the standing of the opponent teams. Hence, the team’s training must include special stimuli of aerobic and high-intensity workouts according to the players’ playing positions in the match.

Recently developed the agility and skill tests (AS) were reevaluated to assess the children’s agility together with the soccer shoots to ball for goal. Children (male) soccer players (N=68) (age= 11.6 ± 0.5 yrs; height=147 ± 6.6 cm; weight= 35.5 ± 5.6kg) participated in this study. Test – Retest and comparisons, including 20m Sprint, Long Jump, T- Drill Test, AS (with ball), AS (goal success) and Zigzag Tests were used to assess the children’s sprinting, jump power, and agility with shooting ball. All handled test results showed that there were significant differences between the tests - retest sessions (p < 0.01) except for the 20 m Sprint. There were a near perfect correlations between test and retest values (r=0.90-0.99). A higher level of correlation between the AS tests (goal success, with ball) (r=0.99) was found. There were very high levels of correlations between the AS (goal success and with ball) tests and Zigzag tests (r=0.71, r=0.70 respectively). These results suggest that the AS tests are reliable and valid agility and skill tests for children players. Because the AS tests have unique values and are composed of soccer specific agility and active shooting skills, they are very important in identifying the talent and ability of children.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of acute creatine monohydrate supplementation on fatigue and anaerobic performance. Thirty young soccer players participated in this study. Participants continued their training without taking any food supplements for 5 days, taking 0.3 g of milk dust per kg for 5 days and using 0.3 g creatine monohydrate per kg for 5 days. A total of 6 × 35 m sprint times were used in the fatigue index with a 10-second rest period between them. Single repeated sprint times of 35 m were examined as well. Statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) were found both fatigue index and single repeated 35 m sprint time after creatine supplementation. However there was not a statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) in Rast Test results. In soccer, it is known that there is a strong positive correlation between game performance and the number of repeated sprint numbers in a game. In conclusion, there was a statistically significant effect of 0.3 g of acute creatine loading per kg over 5 days on the single repeated sprints and fatigue index values. The creatine monohydrate can be used as an ergogenic aid for recovery periods between high-intensity exercises to affect performance.

The purpose of this study was to analyze in FIFA World Cup Tournament 2018 focusing on the technical and tactical offensive actions of the male goalkeepers when being under pressure and to evaluate if their actions correlated with the outcome of the match. The sample consisted of the goalkeepers (n = 41). A descriptive analysis and a hierarchical clusters analysis were performed to identify the goalkeepers’ classes. Furthermore, a factor analysis was conducted to locate the goalkeepers’ style of play and the statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. The results showed that the total percentage of correct passes under pressure was 46.5% and that the goalkeepers preferred using the air and long distance passes with one or two touches. In addition, out of the 4 groups that were formed with cluster analysis, the goalkeepers of group 2 and 3 stood out concerning the quality of their actions. The incorrect actions were correlated with defeat and the correct actions were correlated with a win (p < 0.001, r = 0.663). In conclusion, a male goalkeeper, nowadays, needs to have all the technical actions of his feet at a good level so he can contribute to his team’s build-up, especially those of distributing the ball with his feet.

The study aimed to assess the total covered distance during a match, performance volume below and above the anaerobic threshold, as well as characterize physical activities of professional Bundesliga goalkeepers during soccer matches. 34 goalkeepers (606 observations) from all eighteen Bundesliga teams, who played in the 2014/2015 season were considered for the study. The performance of goalkeepers was analyzed with the use of the VIS.TRACK system. The variables measured included: total covered distance [km] in the whole match, the first half, and the second half; distance covered below and above the anaerobic threshold (4 m • s–1) [km]; and distance covered in six intensity ranges [km]. The total distance covered by the goalkeepers was 5.48 ±0.56 km. The distance covered by goalkeepers below the anaerobic threshold was 5.28 ±0.52 km, whereas the distance covered above the anaerobic threshold amounted to 0.21 ±0.09 km. The ratio between the goalkeepers’ volumes of aerobic and anaerobic performance was 25:1. The total distance covered by goalkeepers in match play and the distances covered by goalkeepers below and above the anaerobic threshold (96.17% and 3.83%, respectively) indicate that during a match the goalkeepers undertake predominantly aerobic exercises.

The purpose of the study was to analyze the psychophysiological characteristics of football players and water sports athletes as factors of professional selection. Materials and methods: The study involved students of a specialized sports school (n = 31, age: 16-17 years). The participants were divided into two groups: group 1 - 20 football players, group 2 - 11 water sports athletes (swimming). The level of sportsmanship is 1 category, Candidates and Masters of Sports. Tests applied: determination of the duration of an individual minute (IM), measuring of a 10 cm segment (SM), determination of simple hand-eye coordination (SHEyC), and simple hand-ear coordination (SHEaC), the technique of “Figures memorizing”, solution of 10 sums. Results: The results of the IM test reflect the prevalence of the earlier test completion. All participants indicated a lower value in 9th test of a segment measuring. The results of the SHEyC and SHEaC of the participants were similar. The results of all tests were less than 10 in the test of “Figures memorizing”. Football players revealed link between coordination and psychophysiological tests results, while swimmers revealed link between coordination and sensory type of tests. Conclusions: The carried out psychophysiological analysis of athletes' condition of team sports and water sports confirmed the possibility of applying these tests for selection. The results obtained reflect the specific influence of the sport on the athletes' bodies. These indicators demonstrate the increased requirements for spatial orientation, the importance of reaction to auditory stimuli and the increased ability of football players to control the surrounding space and control the game situation.

Sprint time scores were analyzed for each test. To determine the reliability Paired Sample T-test and Pearson Correlation Statistics were computed. Scores of teams were compared with ANOVA statistics to determine the difference. Test results showed that there was no significant difference between the two occasions for all agility test on subjects and teams (p > 0.01). There was higher correlation between test-retest values of subjects (r = 0.90–0.97). Three different agility tests were found valid in determining agility with significant moderate level correlation. (r = 0.36–0.44; p < 0.01). Differences among sport branches were found significant for agility scores (p < 0.05). All three agility tests are reliable and valid for team sport athletes. Soccer players had better scores than other branches in soccer specific test (AS). This study showed that sport specific agility tests are more useful than general agility tests.

The aim of the work was to define the differences between boys selected for football training and their peers at the beginning stage of different team sports training, as well as those that do not practice any sports discipline. The research material consisted of 97 schoolboys at the age of 10 selected to practice team sports, including football, and 39 non-training boys. All boys attended Szczecin primary schools. Apart from the basic anthropometric characteristics, the following motor skills were analyzed: kinesthetic differentiation, reaction speed, movement frequency, spatial orientation, static balance, maximal lactic anaerobic power, maximal non-lactic anaerobic power, fast muscle activation, aerobic endurance and absolute muscle strength. Not all test results are expressed in SI units. Data obtained through the applied method served as the grounds for defining a profile of a “young football player” as the premise to improve the process of preliminary selection for football. Candidates selected for soccer training presented higher level of kinesthetic differentiation than all other examined boys. They also presented higher level of movement frequency than volleyball players and higher level of space orientation than the not-trained boys. Soccer players nevertheless presented lover level of time of reaction than the candidates selected for basketball training. Results of all condition abilities tests’ obtained by soccer players were statistically significant better than the one obtained by the untrained boys (p0.001) and the candidates for volleyball training (p0.05, p0.001). The greatest differences were noticed in tests of aerobic endurance and maximal non-lactic and lactic anaerobic power.
