    Opis:
    Purpose: Smart City is currently the most crucial ideology of urban development. To develop cities and their inhabitants, a constant dialogue between city authorities and residents is necessary. For the discussion to be possible, methods should be developed, enabling residents to talk with the city authorities. The aim of the article is to review the practices of participation of local authorities and city dwellers. Design/methodology/approach: The article is based on an analysis of research results published in national and world publications. Findings: Methods of participation between city authorities and residents are essential methods of communication between city authorities and residents. By communicating, residents with city authorities can work out new directions for city development. In the concept of smart city, it is crucial and essential that residents decide about the fate of their places of residence. Originality/value: The work is theoretical. However, it is an excellent introduction to further scientific research towards the recognition of methods of participation and their application in Polish reality.

    W obliczu globalizacji istnieje ustawiczna konieczność poszukiwania nowych podejść do kształtowania miasta, z uwzględnieniem przemian społeczno–ekonomicznych. Ciągła uwaga miast powinna dotyczyć przedsięwzięć zorientowanych na poprawę jakości przestrzeni miejskiej, również na zwiększenie jej atrakcyjności. Miasta atrakcyjne promują mieszkańcom nową jakość życia, kreują pozytywny wizerunek miasta, które to cechy mogą stać się motorem jego rozwoju. Przyspieszają również dopływ współczesnych czynników rozwoju: kapitału finansowego, innowacji, kreatywnych ludzi i technologii. Wprowadzenie nowych kreatywnych funkcji w przestrzeni miejskiej, powoduje nie tylko wzrost jej jakości, ale i wzrost wartości, które mają wpływ na człowieka użytkownika tej przestrzeni. Miejsca stają się atrakcyjne i unikatowe poprzez zwiększenie walorów użytkowych, społecznych, kulturowych ekonomicznych. Jako przykład takiego miejsca może posłużyć Millenium Park w Chicago.
    In the face of globalisation there exists a constant necessity to search for new approaches to shaping cities while taking into consideration socio-economic changes. Cities should constantly focus their attention on projects oriented towards improving the quality of urban space, as well as increasing its attractiveness. Attractive cities promote a better quality of life for their residents and create a positive image of the city, with these qualities possibly becoming the motors of their development. They also increase the speed of the inflow of contemporary development factors: human capital, innovation, creative people and technologies. Introducing new creative functions into urban space causes not only the increase of its quality, but also an increase of values, which affect man - the user of this space. Places become attractive and unique through increasing their utilitarian qualities, as well as social, cultural and economic ones. One example of such a place is Millennium Park in Chicago.

    The article attempts to identify opportunities to improve the quality of life of older people by implementing smart city solutions. Literature research presented in it contains answers to the following questions: what is planned to be achieved as a result of the smart city concept implementation, why this concept is implemented, who participates in this task and how to achieve the expected result of smart city implementation. In response to the first and second question, attention is paid to the needs of older people – smart city solutions exploitators, associated with a specific type of transport, which must be met to achieve quality of life at a certain level. The answer to the third question is an indication of the participants, such as designers, constructors, producers of solutions in the area of the smart city, as well as their exploiters. The last ones may be customers of transport organizations (passengers, users of the water supply system), users (drivers) and maintainers of transport means. Participants in transport systems – local authorities responsible for its functioning as well as the management of the transport company – may also participate in the discussed participation. Tasks that should be given to individual participants in the process of meeting needs have been defined. It was also pointed out that their role should not focus solely on technical aspects, but social participation is of particular importance, on which the quality of life of people in society depends.

    Purpose: This paper is devoted to elderly people and their interaction with smartphones. The analysis of the state of the art inspired the formulation of research questions related to interaction of elderly people with smartphones, e.g. how do they input data or how do they start the SOS signal. Design/methodology/approach: In order to answer the research questions, an electronic questionnaire was prepared and executed. The survey consisted of 11 questions and was completed by 40 people. Findings: The conducted research has shown that seniors are increasingly using smartphones for a variety of tasks, including (among others) text messaging and multimedia. Originality/value: The presented research is the most current research on the behaviour of seniors using smartphones on the Polish market. The obtained results can be used, among others, when designing applications and devices for seniors.

    Celem zaprezentowanego w artykule projektu było opracowanie modelu inteligentnej laski przeznaczonej dla osób starszych, która ułatwi im codzienne życie. Urządzenie zostało zaprojektowane w oparciu o wyniki internetowej ankiety przeprowadzonej na grupie 101 osób, w celu rozeznania oczekiwań potencjalnych użytkowników. Zaprojektowane urządzenie jest ergonomiczne i posiada szereg funkcji, zapewniających osobom starszym samodzielność. Dodatkowo wykonano projekt aplikacji mobilnej, która ułatwia użytkowanie laski oraz zapewnia opiekunom monitorowanie stanu pacjenta.
    The aim of the project was to develop a smart walking stick model for the elderly, which will facilitate their daily lives. The device was designed based on the results of an internet survey conducted on a group of 101 people so that the cane meets the expectations of future users. The designed device is fully ergonomic and has a number of functions that ensure independence for the elderly. In addition, a mobile application design was made that facilitates the use of the cane and provides caregivers to monitor the patient's condition.

    Machines have always been a tool or technical instrument for human beings to facilitate and to accelerate processes through mechanical power. The same applies to robots nowadays – the next step in the evolution of machines. Over the course of the last few years, robot usage in society has expanded enormously, and they now carry out a remarkable number of tasks for us. It seems we are on the eve of a historic revolution that will change everything we know right now. But not only robots have an impact on our life. It is digitization in its entirety, including smart applications and games, that confronts us with new spaces. This special volume of Ethics in Progress tries to broaden our understanding of a philosophical field – robots and digitization – that is still in its infancy in terms of it research and literature.
