- Urbanization today is one of the most important trends in planetary development. 2020 has marked the greatest period of uncertainty and economic volatility our generation has ever faced. The COVID-19 outbreak has made a significant difference to our way of life. While scientists estimate that by 2050, 68% of the world’s population will live in cities, there is a growing need to design pandemic-resistant cities. Smart cities are one of the essential needs for reducing this as well as other pandemics. This study reviews recent approaches and presents potential solutions that can be exploited by health-centric smart cities to relieve impacts of any pandemic.
