Opis:
This study aims to evaluate the construction mode of small-scale farmland water conservancy using secondary data from the China statistical yearbook (2000-2019), which was simply and statistically computed. To put it briefly, the simple linear regression model was used to analyse the number of small-scale reservoirs and irrigated areas relative to their capacities and effectiveness. The results showed that the number of small-scale reservoirs increased by 122.2 units of their capacity and the number of small-scale irrigated areas increased by 6.8 units of their effectiveness. The present study introduces the simple linear regression model and accounts for how the number of the small-scale reservoirs and irrigated areas has increased (the total number of reservoirs was 83,260 in 2000 and 98,822 in 2018) relative to their capacity and effectiveness, respectively. Of course, the capacity of water harvesting and the effectiveness of irrigated areas have shown a linear increase over time. Between 2000 and 2019, the capacity increased from 3842 to 7117 for large-scale reservoirs, from 746 to 126 for medium-scale reservoirs, and from 594 to 710 for small-scale reservoirs and their ranges were 3.2, 380, and 116, respectively. Furthermore, the findings of this evaluation provide insights for making decisions on water conservancy interventions.

Opis:
Because of more and more frequent droughts and observed climate changes, infrastructural investments in forest are at present targeted at increasing water resources, which is realized under the so-called small scale water retention. Forest reservoirs located in Pomorze Forest District in the north-eastern Poland, which was selected for research, fits this trend. The constructed facilities were to reduce the indications of habitat dryness and to improve fire prevention. The investment consisting in building 14 objects of water melioration has changed water conditions in the research area. 12 oak dams, stone weir and an earth pond for amphibians have been built. As a result of the realized investment, the level of water has increased and problems with periodical flooding of forest habitats have occurred. At the beginning of 2012, observational and measuring wells were created to monitor all occurring changes of the soil water table. The received data can be useful in clarifying the causes for flooding and in possible suggestions to improve the existing water conditions. This paper presents the analysis of the influence of realized investments on the changes in the level of groundwater between 2012 and 2014.

Opis:
It is shown in the paper that drop size distribution in liquid-liquid dispersions is affected by both the fine-scale and the large-scale inhomogeneity of turbulence. Fine-scale inhomogeneity is related to the phenomenon of local intermittency and described using a multifractal formalism. Large-scale inhomogeneity is related to inhomogeneous distributions of the locally averaged properties of turbulence, including the rate of energy dissipation and the integral scale of turbulence. Large-scale distributions of the properties of turbulence in a stirred tank are considered with a network of well-mixed zones. CFD methods are used to compute the properties of turbulence in these zones. A model taking into account inhomogeneity of both types explains the effect of the system's scale on drop size; it predicts smaller maximum stable drop sizes than the classic Kolmogorov theory of turbulence. The model predictions agree well with experimental data.

Opis:
Agriculture, mainly biogenic compounds (nitrogen and phosphorus) and plant protection products are one of the sources of environmental pollution. The sources of pollution are both farm buildings and intensively used agricultural land. Therefore, a crucial element of the environment contributing to the improvement of surface water quality are the aforementioned shallow reservoirs covered by vegetation that act as biofiltres or reservoirs such as dammed reservoirs. The analysed reservoir is located in the Greater Poland Province, about 25 km to the north from Poznań, in Murowana Goślina commune. The research on the analysed reservoir was conducted during the growing seasons, from 2016 to 2018, at three measurement and control points: at the Przebędowo reservoir inflow, it the Przebędowo reservoir and at the Przebędowo reservoir outflow. They included determining 4 groups of physico-chemical indicators supporting biological elements, including indicators characterising aerobic conditions, salinity, acidification (pH) and indicators characterising biogenic conditions. Based on the conducted research, a great influence of the reservoir was proven, especially in the context of the concentration of dissolved oxygen at the outflow, where, concerning this indicator, the reservoir was classified as water quality class I. The presented research results also confirmed that in the context of the complexity of hydrological and physico-chemical processes taking place in dammed reservoirs, it is necessary to continuously control them both in terms of water quantity and quality.

Opis:
In certain small-gold mining activities in West Lombok, Indonesia, the tailings containing mercury are discharged to agricultural lands, reducing their productivity. One of the efforts to restore the land is by bioremediation of mercury, using mercury-resistant microbes. This study was aimed to isolate the mercury-resistant bacteria from small-scale gold mine tailings containing mercury, and to test their capability in accumulating mercury. Bacterial isolation and identification were conducted from nutrient broth supplemented with 5 ppm HgCl2. The isolated bacteria were tested for mercury accumulation in the nutrient broth containing 10, 20 and 30 ppm Hg for 24 hours, and in small-scale gold mine tailing containing 41.37 ppm Hg for 2 weeks. The results showed that there were four pure isolates of mercury-resistant bacteria which were identified as Brevundimonas vesicularis, Nitrococcus mobilis, Fusobacterium aquatile and Fusobacterium necrogenes. The highest Hg accumulation from nutrient broth liquid media containing 10, 20 and 30 ppm Hg was observed for Brevundimonas vesicularis. The mercury accumulation efficiency of the four bacteria applied to small-scale gold mine tailing containing mercury was in the order of Fusobacterium aquatile (76.1%) > Brevundimonas vesicularis (75.6%) > Fusobacterium necrogenes (74.4%) > Nitrococcus mobilis (74.2%). On the basis of the Hg accumulation efficiency of more than 75%, Fusobacterium aquatile and Brevundimonas vesicularis are prospective for bioremediation of mercury-contaminated soils.

Opis:
Automated generalization is highly desired for effective map production. This research focuses on the initial stage of generalization, namely object selection. The study aims to conduct river network automatic selection based on map specifications contained in the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration regulation. The research covers river network selection from the General Geographic Objects Database from 1:250,000 to 1:500,000 detail level. Within the research scope, three selection variants were designed. The first was a basic variant that only included the implementation of the specifications contained in the regulation. The other two were experimental variants: an extended variant and an extended-modified variant with the parameters and data enrichment proposed by the authors. The extended variant has been supplemented with the Id_MPHP index usage, derived from the Map of Hydrographic Division of Poland (MPHP), which defines the hierarchy of watercourses in the river network. The extended-modified variant was implemented according to the guidelines of the regulation, with the use of the Id_MPHP index and additionally with the help of the parameter denoting “priority” watercourses, which was assigned by the authors. The results of the work constitute the generalization models designed in ArcMap 10.8. with the use of Model Builder functionality as well as the maps presenting the selection variants output visualizations. The results were compared visually as well as verified with the reference atlas map generalized by an experienced cartographer. As a result, the map specifications concerning the selection process presented in the regulation proved to be insufficient to generalize river networks properly. The variants proposed in this research made it possible to improve the selection results and enabled the automation of the river selection process. Additional specifications and parameters proposed in this work may constitute an essential supplement to the guidelines contained in the regulation.
