Opis:
The axial, radial and tangential velocity profiles of six fluids were extracted from computational fluid dynamics simulation results at points in a pump chamber 1 mm distant from the blades in a vortex pump at the specific speed of 76. The critical radius was specified in the axial velocity radial profiles to determine the impeller inlet and outlet at six viscosities and part-load, design, and over-load points. A mean-line flow model and hydraulic loss model were built from the profiles. The incidence, incidence loss in the inlet, deviation angle, and slip factor in the outlet were calculated. The impeller theoretical head, pump hydraulic efficiency and volumetric efficiency were analyzed. It was shown that the axial, radial and tangential velocity profiles relate closely to the flow rate as usual, but also the viscosity, especially at low flow rates and in the inlet. The low flow rate and viscosity lead to near zero axial and radial velocities, a faster tangential velocity than the blade speed, negative incidence, and a small incidence loss coefficient in the inlet. The dimensionless critical radius ranged within 0.77–0.89 and reduces with the increasing flow rate and viscosity. The mean slip factor is between 0.11 and 0.20 and rises with the increasing flow rate and viscosity. The mean incidence loss coefficient is within 0.0020–0.15 and augments with the increasing flow rate but increases with the decreasing viscosity under part-load conditions. The theoretical head estimated by using the fluid tangential velocity between the outlet of the impeller and the inlet of the chamber is more reasonable.

An electrically conducted viscous incompressible nanofluid flow caused by the nonlinear stretching surface with stagnation flow has been investigated numerically. The effect of Brownian motion and thermophoresis on the nanofluid is also incorporated. The governing partial differential equations with nonlinear second order boundary conditions are solved by the fourth order Runge-Kutta technique using MATLAB programming. The effect of the radiation parameter (Rd), stretching parameter (n), Brownian motion parameter (Nb), thermophoresis parameter (Nt) on temperature, velocity and mass transfer are shown graphically. The influence of some of these parameters on the local Nusselt number (−′(0)) and local Sherwood number (−′(0)) are shown by the graphs.

Opis:
The current work deals with two-phase flow and heat transfer induced by a mixture of fluid and dust particles revolving with a constant angular velocity above a slippage planar wall. Interaction of the solids with the fluid through an interaction force while rotating above the surface is formulated through a similarity system of equations akin to the Bödewadt flow in the absence of suspended particles. Although the velocity fields of fluid and solid are strictly coupled, the heat fields are decoupled from the velocity fields, but they are still in contact with each other due to the coupling of fluid and particle temperatures. The dusty fluid flow character is simulated numerically to capture the fluid and dust phase behaviors. The momentum and thermal layers are resolved in the presence of wall slip mechanism. Illustrative and quantitative results are eventually presented reflecting the physical features of particles and fluid at any stage of interaction during the rotary motion. It is revealed that the wall slip mechanism can be effective enough to alter the usual Bödewadt flow phenomenon.

A transient flow formation of an incompressible fluid through a horizontal porous channel assuming a ramped pressure gradient is considered with the velocity slip boundary conditions. The flow is a laminar flow caused by ramped pressure gradient along the flow direction. The equation governing the flow is modeled, and solved by the Laplace transformation technique to obtain a semi-analytical solution under slip boundary conditions. It was noted that the flow velocity increases as the slip parameter is increased.

Opis:
Slow axisymmetric flow of an incompressible viscous fluid caused by a slip sphere within a non-concentric spherical cell surface is investigated. The uniform velocity (Cunningham’s model) and tangential velocity reaches minimum along a radial direction are imposed conditions at the cell surface (Kvashnin’s model). The general solution of the problem is combined using superposition of the fundamental solution in the two spherical coordinate systems based on the centers of the slip sphere and spherical cell surface. Numerical results for the correction factor on the inner sphere are obtained with good convergence for various values of the relative distance between the centers of the sphere and spherical cell, the slip coefficient, and the volume fraction. The obtained results are in good agreement with the published results. The effect of concentration is more in the Cunningham’s model compared to the Kvashnin’s model. The wall correction factor on the no-slip sphere is more compared to that of a slip sphere. The correction factor on the slip sphere is more than that of a spherical gas bubble.

The 38,686 square kilometers of landlocked and isolated mountain country has elevations ranging from about 160 meters in the southern part to more than 7500 meters in the northern part. People habituating along the steep slope valleys with river flowing at the foot of gorges are the finest epitome of exquisite scenery for outside world. However, such slopes particularly the unstable and loose ones pose greatest threat to the mankind and the development of the country. The complex arrangement of topography, constant tectonic movement and others human induced activities accelerate the landslide which are already active. The landslide problems in Bhutan dates back to 1960s when first road construction took place in the country. Every monsoon season is marked with countless landslide across the country, among which the landslide between Phuntsholing to Thimphu highway is the most frequent and disparaging. Many people lose their valuables and lives during the summer season every year due to landslides and falling stones on the highway. This research will help in bettering the knowledge in landslides and also combating it with necessary means. The main objective of this study is to comprehend the activating processes and mechanism of the landslide as well as examine to predict the possibility of another landslide by seeking natural causes and anthropogenic factors.

MHD slip flow past an extending surface with third type (convective) boundary condition and thermal radiation is analysed. The governing momentum and energy equations are converted into set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations using appropriate similarity transformations. The Fourth-Order Runge-Kutta shooting method is applied for obtaining the numerical solution of the resulting nonlinear ordinary differentia equations. The numerical results for velocity and temperature distribution are found for different values of the vital parameters, namely: the magnetic interaction factor, slip factor, convective factor, Prandtl number and radiation factor and are presented graphically, and discussed.

Hydromagnetic flow of water based nanofluids over a nonlinearly stretching sheet in the presence of velocity slip, temperature jump, magnetic field, nonlinear thermal radiation, thermophoresis and Brownian motion has been studied. The article focuses on Cu water nanofluid and Ag water nanofluid. The similarity transformation technique is adopted to reduce the governing nonlinear partial differential equations into nonlinear ordinary differential equations and then they are solved numerically utilizing the Nachistem – Swigert shooting method along with the fourth order Runge Kutta integration technique. The influence of physical parameters on the flow, temperature and nanoparticle volume fraction are presented through graphs. Also the values of the skin friction coefficient at the wall and nondimensional rate of heat transfer are given in a tabular form. A comparative study with previous published results is also made.

Opis:
The paper presents methodology for determining water mass and pressure drop in ducts with fixed co-current and no-slip two-phase flow. The dispersed liquid phase (water) is present in the air as a result of wet air from underground excavations being distributed in some sections of a discharge pathway, or local water mass sources (or its local outlets) formed by the natural phenomenon of water vapor condensation. For such cases, static pressure losses were determined, which resulted from the force of gravity of the mass of water droplets occurring in the air stream in the duct.
W pracy przedstawiono metodologię wyznaczania masy wody i spadku ciśnienia w przewodach z ustalonym współprądowym bezpoślizgowym przepływem dwufazowym.

An analytical solution of an MHD free convective thermal diffusive flow of a viscous, incompressible, electrically conducting and heat-absorbing fluid past a infinite vertical permeable porous plate in the presence of radiation and chemical reaction is presented. The flow is considered under the influence of a magnetic field applied normal to the flow. The plate is assumed to move with a constant velocity in the direction of fluid flow in slip flow regime, while free stream velocity is assumed to follow the exponentially increasing small perturbation law. The velocity, temperature, concentration, skin friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number distributions are derived and have shown through graphs and tables by using the simple perturbation technique.

The stretching sheets with variable thickness may occur in engineering applications more frequently than a flat sheet. Due to its various applications, in the present analysis we considered a three dimensional unsteady MHD nanofluid flow over a stretching sheet with a variable wall thickness in a porous medium. The effects of radiation, viscous dissipation and slip boundary conditions are considered. Buongiorno’s model is incorporated to study the combined effects of thermophoresis and Brownian motion. The dimensionless governing equations are solved by using MATLAB bvp4c package. The impact of various important flow parameters is presented and analysed through graphs and tables. It is interesting to note that all the three boundary layer thicknesses are diminished by slip parameters. Further, the unsteady parameter decreases the hydromagnetic boundary layer thickness.
