Opis:
A recent plethora of evidence suggests the direct influence of motivation on perception. Surprisingly, there has not been any scientific reports concerning whether the intrinsic motivation to experience a particular phenomenon can influence the character of that experience. To examine such possibility, an experimental study employing Rubber Hand Illusion (RHI) paradigm was conducted. The strength of the illusion has been assessed using first- (question- naire) and third-person (skin conductance response – SCR – in a situation threatening rubber hand) measurement methods. Correlation between self-reported motivation and self-reported strength of the illusion did not reach statistical significance. However, highly motivated participants displayed pattern of skin conductance response characteristic for strong illusion. We conclude that the motivated participants actually experienced the illusion stronger, but simultaneously their expectations concerning the illusion escalated so their subjective reports of the strength of the illusion did not reflect results obtained by SCR. The obtained results support the hypothesis that cognition influences perception

Opis:
In this article, we present a comprehensive measurement system to determine the level of user emotional arousal by the analysis of electrodermal activity (EDA). A number of EDA measurements were collected, while emotions were elicited using specially selected movie sequences. Data collected from 16 participants of the experiment, in conjunction with those from personal questionnaires, were used to determine a large number of 20 features of the EDA, to assess the emotional state of a user. Feature selection was performed using signal processing and analysis methods, while considering user declarations. The suitability of the designed system for detecting the level of emotional arousal was fully confirmed, throughout the number of experiments. The average classification accuracy for two classes of the least and the most stimulating movies varies within the range of 61‒72%.

Opis:
This paper outlines the INTERFACE software ergonomic evaluation methodology and presents new validation results. The INTERFACE methodology is based on a simultaneous assessment of heart rate variability, skin conductance, and other data. The results of using this methodology on-site, in a non-laboratory environment indicate that it is potentially capable of identifying quality attributes of elements of software with a temporal resolution of only a few seconds. This paper presents pilot results supporting this hypothesis, showing empirical evidence in spite of the definitely non-laboratory environment: they indicate that the method is robust enough for practical usability tests. Naturally, in the future these pilot results will have to be followed with further laboratory-based verification and refinement. This paper focuses only on some characteristics of this method, not on an actual analysis of human–computer interaction; however, its results can establish a future practical and objective event-related analysis of software use.
