My contribution analyses the affinity for the circus and confidence men based on the chapter in Mann’s novel about visiting a circus. Faced with the mortal risks of the acrobatic performances, Felix Krull falls into deep reflection on anthropology and aesthetics: Are artists, who risk their lives, who demand extreme effort from their bodies, who defy the rules of reason and convention, really normal human beings? Can the sensational performances of the Circus and the morbid feelings of the spectators be conceived of within the terminology of aesthetics? Challenging conventions is the great affinity of circensic art and fraud—but where do the differences lie?

The parenting skills workshop named “It is not easy to be a parent” is an answer to the needs of parents, pedagogues, social workers, and guardians. The article is based on the author’s professional experience. Establishing effective communication with the parents who often feel lost and helpless, and presenting them with ways to bring up their children competently – how to listen to them, how to talk to them, how to set standards, how to support and help them in overcoming difficulties – are the basis of the presented workshops. The author presents the main assumptions of the programme as well as the expected results. Other important factors supporting the process of parents’ education, i.e. the diagnosis and identification of pedagogic problems, cooperation between institutions, motivational influence, and places and resources are also discussed.

Objectives and tasks are defined in the articles, and the basic knowledge and skills that students receive during the process of training under this program are specified. The content of the program is presented in two parts. Part one covers methodological principles applied in formation of skills for independent life. Three main stages to be mastered by the students in the training process within the stage of forming skills for independent life in children from risk groups are elaborated. Part two of the program covers five sections for mastering individual and group techniques of a practical and applied nature; its content is included in Trainer’s Manual.

This study examined the extent to which English as a Foreign Language (EFL) high-school students believed mobile devices increase learning and learner satisfaction in the Thai school/classroom context, and whether they are prepared for autonomous learning using these devices. The participants were 277 students in eight high-schools in Southern Thailand who completed a questionnaire constructed around the core competencies of 21st century learning skills and autonomous traits in relation to mobile device use. The findings indicated that students had access/ability to use mobile devices, and either agreed/strongly agreed that mobile devices increase their learning potential and satisfaction, suggesting they are ready for autonomous learning using mobile devices in partnership with their 21st century learning skills. Recommendations are made for teachers and policy-makers to allow students to complement their learning using mobile devices.

Given the reliance of the contemporary IT professional training process on a predetermined scenario for success outlined in educational programs and confined within local needs our research aimed to identify and examine effective ways of integrating spiritual and professional development for future specialists in the field of digital (IT) technologies. Our assumption was that the development of core values as a spiritual component of IT specialists influences the effectiveness of acquiring 21st century skills and shapes their professional competence. A correlational study was conducted to explore the relationship between the level of formation of core values in future IT specialists and the level of 21st century skills in these individuals. The research strategy was based on the application of distinct methods (Schwartz, S. H. (1992), Hixson, 2012, mathematical statistical methods – Kendall’s correlation analysis) to test the effectiveness of the author’s model. Its conceptual idea is to confirm the hypothesis that higher levels of 21st century skills correlate with higher levels of core values in future IT specialists. The results of the tasks revealed correlations between higher levels of 21st century skills and the core values of future IT specialists. This allowed confirming the leading idea of the research: Ukrainian students in IT specialties demonstrate the ability to acquire 21st century skills associated with values that support a “positive” vector in the functioning of an individual (benevolence, conformity, security, traditions, universalism, stimulation, and independence).

Celem artykułu jest opisanie projektu Dream Makers. Głównym celem tego projektu było wsparcie rozwoju kreatywności myślenia i umiejętności w edukacji przedszkolnej poprzez działania związane z drukiem 3D. Główne koncepcje projektu to kształcenie i szkolenie w zakresie przedsiębiorczości. Ta perspektywa jest dobrze ugruntowanym obszarem badań, który sprzyja duchowi przedsiębiorczości i rozwoju umiejętności, które łączą aspekty społeczno-emocjonalne, takie jak pewność siebie, przywództwo, kreatywność, motywacja, odporność i poczucie własnej skuteczności. W artykule przedstawiono podstawowe informacje obejmujące główne koncepcje działań projektu, a następnie opis przeprowadzanych procesów wdrażania i projekt ewaluacji. Autorki mają nadzieję, że projekt ten będzie przydatny dla nauczycieli i innych naukowców realizujących podobne projekty, zwłaszcza z dziećmi w niekorzystnej sytuacji ekonomicznej, aby rozwijać swoje umiejętności, co może dać im pewną przewagę w przyszłości.
The article aims to describe the Dream Makers Project. The main objective of the project is to improve creative thinking and skills at the stage of pre-school education through 3D printing activities. The main concepts of this project are entrepreneurship education and training. This perspective is a well-established field of study that fosters entrepreneurial mindsets and skills which integrate socio-emotional aspects, such as self-confidence, leadership, creativity, motivation, resilience and self-efficacy. The article presents the background information on the main concepts of project activities and, next, describes the processes of project implementation and the evaluation project. The authors hope that this project will be useful to teachers and other researchers who conduct similar projects, especially among economically disadvantaged children, in order to help children develop skills which can benefit them in the future.

A review of maritime accidents conducted over the last decade confirms that human error is the main contributing factor in these incidents. Well‐developed Non‐Technical Skills (NTS) can reduce the effects of human error. NTS include both interpersonal and cognitive skills such as situation awareness, teamwork, decision‐making, leadership, managerial skills, communication and language skills. In a crisis situation good NTS allow a deck officer to recognise the problem quickly, take action to manage the situation, and utilise the available team members safely and effectively. This paper identifies the importance of NTS training for merchant navy deck officers. It also highlights room for improvement in the existing HELM training. Research has shown that at present the structure of HELM training is not very effective. The other safety critical domains’ efforts into NTS developments are investigated and examples of best practice are adapted into the maritime domain’s NTS training. Suggestions are given for improvements to the HELM course based on proven successful methods in other safety critical domains (aviation and anaesthesia). A subsequent Cost Benefit Analysis for improving deck officers’ NTS is also carried out through the use of Bayesian Networks and Decision Tree Modelling.

Solving equations is one of the central topics in mathematics curricula. Teachers would like to pay more attention to building formulas and formulating algebraic models because modern students dare to translate a problem situation into algebra, but very often their students are helpless because of the lack of practice. There is not much time for exercises. The problem is how to help students with acquiring algebraic skills, like transforming expressions and solving equations. There is a new medium in education that can be used for this – video games. Could they help? I designed a special learning arrangement using a special game that was built for learning algebra. The results suggest that This can be a really relevant didactic medium for teaching mathematics.

Ship’s bridge simulators are very popular in the worldwide training and assessment of merchant navy deck officers. The examiners of simulator courses presently do not have a method to quantitatively assess the performance of a group or an individual. Some examiners use checklists and others use their gut feeling to grade competence. In this paper a novel methodology is established that uses the Evidential Reasoning algorithm to quantitatively assess the Non-Technical Skills (NTS) of merchant navy officers. To begin with, interviews were conducted with experienced deck officers to develop the taxonomy and behavioural markers that would be used in the assessment process. A random selection of students studying towards their Chief Officer’s Certificate of Competency were recruited to have their NTS to be observed in a ship’s bridge simulator. The participant’s behaviour was rated against five criteria and the subsequent data was entered into the Evidential Reasoning algorithm to produce a crisp number. The results that were generated demonstrate that this approach provides a reliable method to quantitatively assess the NTS performance of merchant navy officers in a simulated bridge environment.

This research attempted to establish the content validity of an experimental rehabilitation programme which was carried out in order to show an increase in reading performance – the Reading Performance Vision Rehabilitation Programme (or the RPVRP). The programme was tested on adults with low vision (severe and profound) in the Czech Republic. The following methods of experimental testing were used: reading speed, number of mistakes, and the ability to use obtained information (pretest, posttest No. 1, posttest No. 2) for evaluating the level of increase in reading skills. Results: Our findings confirm that the experimental Reading Performance Vision Rehabilitation Programme significantly influenced the effectivity of using vision potential and increased reading performance in the investigated cases.

Aim. The aim of the current study is to address a gap in literature as well as explore the factors influencing the perceptions that Kosovar students hold over their research skills. To that end, the study assessed students’ perceptions on their research abilities as well as the variables which influence these perceptions, namely inclusion, exclusion, ethnicity, gender and parental education. Methods. The study employed the quantitative research approach and 303 Kosovar university students participated in the study by answering an instrument composed of three different scales measuring the variables in the study, namely the research skills scale, inclusion scale and exclusion scale. In addition the participants answered ten demographic questions. Participation in the study was on a volunteer basis and the results were analyzed with the SPSS package. Results. Participants in this study reported the highest levels of research skills when they reported being included in academic settings. Ethnicity was a powerful influencing variable. Participants who belonged to minority groups were the ones to report the lowest levels of abilities. Contrary to existing literature, gender did not influence perceptions on abilities. Additionally, unlike in a vast number of research studies, parental education did not influence perceptions that Kosovar students held over their research skills. Conclusions. This study is the first one to research skill acquisition among student populations in Kosovo; a region that is almost absent in international literature. This research presents an overview of variables predicting perceptions held by Kosovar students on their research skills with ethnicity and inclusion being detrimental to perceptions of research skills.

The curriculum of physical education and sports through sports activities programmed in the secondary stage seeks to achieve a set of goals of mobility, cognitive and socio-emotional to serve the goals of physical education and sports at this stage. We find a basketball game one of these activities which need a degree of intelligence and knowledge that helps in developing the skill level of the students and selecting the teacher for the appropriate exercises to teach different basic skills. In this context, our study aims to measure the cognitive level of the students of the third secondary level, as well as their level in some basic skills. The study was conducted using a cognitive test in basketball and the selection of some technical tests according to the objectives of the curriculum, then comparing the level according to the sex variables and the level of intelligence and interaction between them and identifying the relationship between these variables. One of the students of the third year secondary school in the city of Mostaganem (Algeria), and after the statistical treatment of the results was reached the results of the most important: 1. The absence of a gender effect and the level of logical and physical intelligence and interaction between them at the cognitive level while being influenced by the level of space intelligence in favor of those with high intelligence. 2. There is a difference in the level of skill of pointing, scrolling and dialogue for the benefit of males, and there is no impact on the level of intelligence, whether logical or physical or space. 3. There is an impact of the interaction between sex and the level of spatial intelligence at the cognitive level, where males and females with high intelligence showed more response. 4. The interaction of sex and the level of intelligence, whether logical, physical or spatial, has no impact on the skills of correction, scrolling and dialogue. 5. There is a direct correlation between IQ and cognitive level as well as basic skills in basketball.

Opis:
Acquisition of digital skills by faculty members is a significantly important step when it comes to integrating ICT in teaching. In light of that, this study aims to describe and analyse faculty members’ training in ICT in all faculties of education within Spanish public universities. The paper hereby presented describes results from 1,145 professors, obtained by an ad hoc online questionnaire. Both data and results have been obtained from one of the instrument dimensions: received teaching training and professors’ perception of their own training. This instrument consists of 25 items. Results show the need for more profound training regarding the optimisation of ICT didactic and pedagogic potential in class, as well as an integrated approach to pedagogy, digital literacy and knowledge.
