Moroccan companies seek to be competitive worldwide by improving quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction. Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma are the most popular methodologies for continuous improvement in companies. The objective of this article is to determine the impact of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing on the performance of different companies. The data was collected by a questionnaire sent to the various companies and industries in Morocco. 45 companies responded to this study, divided into several sectors. The criteria of this study are based on two levels: Financial and operational performance. A statistical study is carried out by SPSS software to analyze and interpret the collected results. The results of this study show that companies using Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies have a positive financial and operational performance compared to companies that only use Lean Manufacturing or companies that do not use Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing. Therefore, the combination of Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing is the ideal and perfect approach for the continuous improvement of different companies.

Opis:
Improving the efficiency of maintenance processes is one of the goals of companies. Improvement activities in this area require not only an appropriate maintenance strategy but also the use of a new approach to increase the efficiency of the process. This article focuses on using Six Sigma (SS) to improve maintenance processes. As an introduction, the generations of SS development are identified, and traditional and advanced analytical tools that can be useful in SS projects are reviewed. As part of the research, an example of the implementation of the SS project in the maintenance process using the DMAIC and selected advanced analytical methods, such as PCA and logistic regression, was presented. The PCA results showed that it was enough to have seven main components to keep about 84% of the information on variability. In developed logistic regression explained the impact of the individual factors affecting the availability of the machines. The identified factors and their interactions made it possible to define maintenance activities requiring improvements

Opis:
Vibration-assisted machining, a hybrid processing method, has been gaining considerable interest recently due to its advantages, such as increasing material removal rate, enhancing surface quality, reducing cutting forces and tool wear, improving tool life, or minimizing burr formation. Special equipment must be designed to integrate the additional vibration energy into the traditional system to exploit those spectacular characteristics. This paper proposes the design of a new 2-DOF high-precision compliant positioning mechanism using an optimization process combining the response surface method, finite element method, and Six Sigma analysis into a multi-objective genetic algorithm. The TOPSIS method is also used to select the best solution from the Pareto solution set. The optimum design was fabricated to assess its performance in a vibration-assisted milling experiment concerning surface roughness criteria. The results demonstrate significant enhancement in both the manufacturing criteria of surface quality and the design approach criteria since it eliminates modelling errors associated with analytical approaches during the synthesis and analysis of compliant mechanisms.

The article presents the possibility of increasing the production efficiency in an enterprise dealing in the production of lounge furniture. The literature review shows that Poland is the sixth country in the world in the amount of furniture production. It is also one of the leading exporters of upholstered furniture in Europe. Each year, the value of furniture sales production increases by a few percentage points. Due to the constantly growing customer orders, many companies in this industry are struggling with delays in delivering products to customers. This problem also occurs in the analyzed company. While analyzing the production process, the occurrence of a large number of non-conformities was also noticed. An analysis was carried out to indicate the number of non-conformities and the place of their occurrence. The FMEA analysis was used, which indicated which non-conformities are the most important, and the 5Why method, which allowed to indicate the cause of their occurrence. The analysis of production processes showed which activities do not bring added value and how they can be eliminated at no cost. All these measures contributed to increasing the efficiency of the production of lounge furniture.

This study was conducted in a company that produces palm oil-based products such as cooking oil and margarine. The study aimed to encounter defects in packaging pouches. This study integrated the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) with the six sigma DMAIC method. The OEE was performed to measure the efficiency of the machine. Three factors were measured in OEE: availability, performance, and quality. These factors were calculated and compared to the OEE world-class value. Then, the Multiple Linear Regression was performed using SPSS to determine the correlation between measurement variables toward the OEE value. Lastly, the six sigma method was implemented through the DMAIC approach to find the solution and improve the packaging quality. Supposing the recommendations are implemented, the OEE is expected to increase from 82% to 85%, with availability ratio, performance ratio, and quality ratio at, 99%, 86%, and 99.8%, respectively.

The objective of this research is to minimize product defects based on labor performance and prove the hypothesis on how labor performance affects the quality of a product through a scientific calculation using Overall Labor Effectiveness (OLE). The primary data is obtained by interviewing the supervisor and labor directly. For secondary data is obtained from the company, such as labor working time, machine scheduled downtime, total production, and defective products. The approach to extract the data is using OLE and the continued regression method. Furthermore, it proceeds to Six Sigma using the DMAIC approach since the results show a significant correlation. The result from Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) shows four of six potential failures caused by product defects are coming from labor. To prevent failure mode, it is recommended to have the regular machine checked by labor, check the temperature of the machine, and provide Standard Operating Procedures.

This study focused on how the ISO 9001:2008 standard has influenced organisational Lean Six Sigma (LSS) implementation success. Data were collected through a survey, followed by interviews with the quality managers/representatives of 85 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the textile industry. Additionally, case studies on four of the textile SMEs were carried out to validate the results. Our analysis revealed that the main benefits of LSS, among others, are problem solving improvement, reduction of the quality problem, waste reduction, and increase of productivity. However, certified companies are aware of continuous improvements to tools, which ensures the continuity of improvements made by the LSS project and facilitates the integration of Lean Six Sigma tools, which can help to make better use of the Lean Six Sigma project. The type of article produced was also found to have a considerable effect on the success of the Lean Six Sigma project.

Today, manufacturing companies strive to find the stability between satisfying their customers by producing in accordance with their expectations (quantity and quality) and keeping leading positions when it comes to competitiveness on their markets. This paper aims to compare two very well-known philosophies in the manufacturing industry: Lean Manufacturing (LM) and Six Sigma (6S). The integration of these two philosophies solves the insufficiency that the absence of one of them causes, considering that Six Sigma is based on statistical tools that focus on measuring and reducing variations in processes and achieving goals set by the customers' requirements. Lean Manufacturing focuses mainly on the value added for a client, for example,by eliminating all kinds of waste from processes what leads to the reduction of time and cost of the process. Lean Six Sigma combines the features of both methods, which means that it meets the client's requirements based on statistical knowledge and the process flow control, but simultaneously in addition to that, it reduces the time and cost of the processes. As a result, it gives manufacturing companies the possibility of having loyal and satisfied customers and who provide companies with new customers. This paper has a greater goal of persuading the Angolan manufacturing industries to implement the Integrated Lean Six Sigma (IL6S) into their production and management processes.
Dziś firmy produkcyjne dążą do znalezienia stabilności pomiędzy satysfakcją swoich klientów poprzez produkcję zgodną z ich oczekiwaniami (ilość i jakość) a utrzymaniem czołowej pozycji, jeśli chodzi o konkurencyjność na swoich rynkach. Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu porównanie dwóch bardzo dobrze znanych filozofii w przemyśle wytwórczym: Lean Manufacturing (LM) i Six Sigma (6S). Integracja tych dwóch filozofii rozwiązuje problem braku jednej z nich, biorąc pod uwagę, że Six Sigma opiera się na narzędziach statystycznych, które koncentrują się na pomiarze i redukcji zmienności procesów oraz osiąganiu celów wyznaczonych przez wymagania klientów. Lean Manufacturing skupia się głównie na wartości dodanej dla klienta, na przykład poprzez eliminację wszelkiego rodzaju marnotrawstwa z procesów, co prowadzi do skrócenia czasu i kosztów procesu. Lean Six Sigma łączy w sobie cechy obu metod, co oznacza, że spełnia wymagania klienta w oparciu o wiedzę statystyczną i kontrolę przebiegu procesów, ale jednocześnie dodatkowo skraca czas i koszt procesów. W efekcie daje to firmom produkcyjnym możliwość posiadania lojalnych i zadowolonych klientów oraz zapewnia firmom nowych klientów. Większym celem tego artykułu jest przekonanie angolskiego przemysłu wytwórczego do wdrożenia zintegrowanej metody Lean Six Sigma (IL6S) w procesach produkcji i zarządzania.

Celem artykułu jest sformułowanie odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy metodyka DMAIC stosowana w jednej ze strategii doskonalenia - podejściu six sigma, spełnia kryteria sprawnego, w ujęciu prakseologicznym, cyklu zorganizowanego działania. Autor przeprowadził przegląd literatury źródłowej z obszaru podejścia six sigma oraz prakseologicznej teorii zarządzania. Analiza porównawcza doprowadziła do sformułowania tezy o spełnianiu wymagań prakseologicznego cyklu działania zorganizowanego przez metodykę DMAIC. Metodyka DMAIC może być stosowana jako strategia podnoszenia sprawności procesów, wywierając istotny wpływ na racjonalność metodologiczną podejmowanej aktywności. Jest ona utylitarnym cyklem racjonalnego działania w podnoszeniu sprawności organizacji.
The aim of the article is to answer the question whether the DMAIC methodology used in one of the improvement strategies – the six sigma approach, meets the criteria of an efficient, praxeological, organised action cycle. The author reviewed the source literature in the area of the six sigma approach and praxeological management theory. The conducted comparative analysis leads to the formulation of the thesis that the DMAIC methodology meets the requirements of an efficient cycle of organised activity. The DMAIC methodology can be used as a strategy of increasing the operational efficiency of business processes, exerting a significant influence on the methodological rationality of the undertaken activity. The DMAIC methodology is a utilitarian cycle of rational actions aimed at increasing the efficiency of the process organisation.

Supply Chain Management (SCM) is a very important part of the industrial world, especially in the manufacturing sector. The development of the business world affects the complexity of the supply chain due to the lack of logistics infrastructure, quality of materials and components, and much more. Supply chain disruption risk mapping needs to be done due to high uncertainty, which is overcome by implementing a decision support system. Based on the background of the problem, supply chain disruption mapping uses the help of the Six Sigma method, which consists of 5 stages: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC). The measurement of disturbance also uses the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) approach to prioritize risk. Risks that have a high assessment and cause failure need to be prioritized for improvement. This study aims to map supply chain disruptions in the current manufacturing industry based on the barriers, resistances, and causes detected for making a decision support system prototype. By implementing a decision support system in the supply chain process, it is hoped that the manufacturing industry can minimize potential losses from existing risks.

In this paper, the researchers presented the process control analysis of a Poultry Wastewater (PWW) treatment plant that was designed to comply with the Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluent) Regulations, 2009. In this pilot case study, the researchers highlighted the fact that owing to the existing global environmental challenges, a Six Sigma approach needs to be used for developing a new technique that helps in optimising process capability and assesses the treatment reliability. This would allow the effective treatment of different pollutants like pH, BOD5, TSS, COD, O&G and NH3-N before their discharge into the environment. The researchers used several quality control process tools like the I-MR control charts, treatment process capability analysis and treatment reliability assessment in the study. After analysing the data, the researchers concluded that the plant could effectively treat NH3-N, as well as fairly decrease the pH, BOD5, and COD values, whereas it displayed low ability in treating TSS and O&G within the research period. The researchers noted that the process showed low reliability in the treatment of TSS and O&G, i.e., 88.6% and 29.8% respectively, led to the discharge of fine colloids in the effluent. This was attributed to problematic processes in the PWW treatment procedure, such as malfunction of the DAF unit process, ineffective physical-chemical treatment, and tertiary filtration breakdown. The researchers concluded that this PWW plant required additional control and design improvement so that it released a low concentration of toxic compounds in the effluent discharge, and complied with the standards. This research could be used as a reference for additional studies that aimed to improve the quality of the wastewater treatment processes.

As advanced technologies are becoming a natural part of the industrial environment, the influence of these technologies on organizational practices is becoming more expanding. In this paper, an attempt was made to understand the conjunction of Lean Six Sigma and Industry 4.0. The study was conducted in the Czech Republic and qualitative data was gathered from 10 companies. The information on the benefits, weaknesses and challenges of the conjunction was summarized. For the research purposes literature review and qualitative analysis were performed. It was found out that, although the conjunction is connected with challenges, the perspectives are beneficial for industrial companies. The data generated also allowed to introduce the readiness assessment model for the implementation of the conjunction based on 4 categories: technological, managerial, financial and human. This information could be used for theoretical and practical purposes for the creation of a successful Lean Six Sigma pattern in Industry 4.0.

In the current, full of technological novelties, companies that want to maintain their position on the market are obliged to implement continuous improvement of their operations. A frequent and recently popular phenomenon is the creation of workplaces in organizations for specialists in the field of continuous improvement. Improvement is a laborious and long-lasting process. The activities of the company that create added value for the customer should be improved, in other words they increase the competitive advantage on the market, then they will be effective for the company. The article presents the possibility of using the Six Sigma methodology to improve the efficiency of the production process of a rubber product on one of the production lines. To achieve the intended goal, qualitative and quantitative research methods were used to analyze the results obtained as part of the company's case study. In addition, the statistical analysis of the obtained results allowed to identify factors in the areas affecting the efficiency of the manufacturing process and to determine the action plan identifying the actions that should be implemented to improve the production process.
W obecnych, pełnych nowinek technologicznych firmach, które chcą utrzymać swoją pozycję na rynku, zobligowane jest do ciągłego doskonalenia swojej działalności. Częstym i ostatnio popularnym zjawiskiem jest tworzenie w organizacjach miejsc pracy dla specjalistów z zakresu ciągłego doskonalenia. Doskonalenie jest pracochłonnym i długotrwałym procesem. Działania firmy, które tworzą wartość dodaną dla klienta powinny być doskonalone, czyli zwiększają przewagę konkurencyjną na rynku, wtedy będą efektywne dla firmy. W artykule przedstawiono możliwości wykorzystania metodyki Six Sigma do poprawy efektywności procesu produkcji wyrobu gumowego na jednej z linii produkcyjnych. Aby osiągnąć zamierzony cel, zastosowano jakościowe i ilościowe metody badawcze do analizy wyników uzyskanych w ramach studium przypadku firmy. Ponadto analiza statystyczna uzyskanych wyników pozwoliła zidentyfikować czynniki w obszarach wpływających na efektywność procesu produkcyjnego oraz ustalić plan działania określający działania, które należy wdrożyć, aby usprawnić proces produkcyjny.

This paper proposes the application of the digital numerical control (DNC) technique to connect the smart meter to the inspection system and evaluate the total harmonic distortion (THD) value of power supply voltage in IEEE 519 standard by measuring the system. Experimental design by the Taguchi method is proposed to evaluate the compatibility factors to choose Urethane material as an alternative to SS400 material for roller fabrication at the machining center. Computer vision uses artificial intelligence (AI) technique to identify object iron color in distinguishing black for urethane material and white for SS400 material, color recognition results are evaluated by measuring system, system measurement is locked when the object of identification is white material SS400. Computer vision using AI technology is also used to recognize facial objects and control the layout of machining staff positions according to their respective skills. The results obtained after the study are that the surface scratches in the machining center are reduced from 100% to zero defects and the surface polishing process is eliminated, shortening production lead time, and reducing 2 employees. The total operating cost of the processing line decreased by 5785 USD per year. Minitab 18.0 software uses statistical model analysis, experimental design, and Taguchi technical analysis to evaluate the process and experimentally convert materials for roller production. MATLAB 2022a runs a computer vision model using artificial intelligence (AI) to recognize color objects to classify Urethane and SS400 materials and recognize the faces of people who control employee layout positions according to their respective skills.

The research aims to emphasise the relevance of the Design of Experiments (DOE) technique as a reliable method for ensuring efficient use of statistical methods in routine industrial processes. A case study approach with a deductive strategy was used to assess the effectiveness of different DOE methods to achieve the desired objectives. Screening, mid-resolution and high-resolution DOE methods helped identify, characterise, and optimise an experimental variable against the desired output response. A general framework for effective DOE is provided as part of DOE planning, including defining DOE objectives, selection criteria, noise reduction, and application across industries. Overall, various DOE models proved successful in identifying a complicated relationship between experimental variables and output response. However, when ideal DOE models may not be feasible, reducing test run by choosing lower resolution DOE or fewer replicates can still provide important insights into the experimental variables’ impact on output responses.
