Opis:
This article presents the use of a multi‐population distributed evolutionary algorithm for path planning in navigation situation. The algorithm used is with partially exchanged population and migration between independently evolving populations. In this paper a comparison between a multi‐population and a classic single‐population algorithm takes place. The impact on the ultimate solution has been researched. It was shown that using several independent populations leads to an improvement of the ultimate solution compared to a single population approach. The concept was checked against a problem of maritime collision avoidance.

Opis:
Cloud environments made up of a large number of compute and storage servers provide ondemand services in a usage-based consumption model (pay-as-you-go). Load balancing is one of the major problems in the cloud. Indeed, the dynamics of demand requirements and QoS, as well as the variability of cloud resources and its provisioning models make difficult the operation of performance evaluation of the system. To face this issue and to ensure the viability of cloud computing, IT resources must be managed effectively by a dynamic monitoring of the current workload of virtual machines (VMs). In this study, we propose the design of a cloud services simulation tool at the infrastructure level based on cloud computing simulation platform named CloudSim. It allows real-time monitoring of a load of each VM in terms of CPU utilization, memory utilization and bandwidth utilization ratio. The result of this case study can be useful for carry out dynamic environment simulations for VMs monitoring and fast decision making that can be used in load balancing mechanisms.

Opis:
The aim of the present work is the building of a lumped nonlinear dynamic model of lung/airway mechanics using generic instead of specific software, in an attempt to offer an open simulation environment. Based on the analogy between pneumatic and electric magnitudes, an electrical equivalent circuit of the lung/airway mechanics is derived. Then, the nonlinear circuit elements are constructed by means of the powerful Analog Behavioral Modeling (ABM) building blocks and the system is solved using PSPICE. Following the approach in [3] and [4], five lumps are defined: two capacitors (elastances) corresponding to lung and collapsible airway segment and three resistors, corresponding to lung, collapsible airway segment and upper airway. The element definition involves as much as five parameters for the lung, four parameters for the collapsible segment and two parameters for the upper airway. The model does not attempt to mimic any particular system adjusting a given set of parameters but instead to provide a tool to explore the relationship between a given parameter or set of parameters and the system response. In particular, Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) maneuver and tidal breathing will be explored.

Opis:
The article presents technological and measurement systems and methods for substrate preparation, production and purification of raw biogas, biogas storage, cogeneration, and processing of post-fermentation mass. Based on the existing infrastructure for biogas production from pig slurry, a model system for integrating objects in the AVEVA environment using integration mechanisms was demonstrated. The simulation used an imaging method, and the 3D model was used for technological simulations. The work presents simulation results that allow us to understand the availability of graphic imaging techniques at each stage, define and expand the library of typical errors and requirements for pipeline installations, structures and devices, facilitating the identification of design errors and accelerated introduction of corrections to the installation design. The article features the use of integration of elements of a pilot biogas production installation in the AVEVA environment - innovative systems for heating the substrate and managing agricultural biogas production were implemented. A node for the production of raw biogas was indicated for the transport system of biogas produced in the fermentation tank, along with devices enabling the conduct, control and regulation of the fermentation process. The visualisation concerned integration of the biogas production technology diagram with the model environment for the created pipelines using integrator mechanisms.

Opis:
Thermo-elastic deformations represent one of the main reasons for positioning errors in machine tools. Investigations of the thermo-mechanical behaviour of machine tools, especially during the design phase, rely mainly on thermo-elastic simulations. These require the knowledge of heat sources and sinks and assumptions on the heat dissipation via convection, conduction and radiation. Forced convection such as that caused by moving assemblies has both a large influence on the heat dissipation to the surrounding air. The most accurate way of taking convection into account is via computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. These simulations compute heat transfer coefficients for every finite element on the machine tool surface, which can then be used as boundary conditions for accurate thermo-mechanical simulations. Transient thermo-mechanical simulations with moving assemblies thus require a CFD simulation during each time step, which is very time-consuming. This paper presents an alternative by using characteristic diagrams to interpolate the CFD simulations. The new method uses precomputed thermal coefficients of a small number of load cases as support points to estimate the convection of all relevant load cases (i.e. ambient conditions). It will be explained and demonstrated on a machine tool column.

Decoupling approach presents a novel solution/alternative to the highly time-consuming fluid-thermal-structural simulation procedures when thermal effects and resultant displacements on machine tools are analyzed. Using high dimensional Characteristic Diagrams (CDs) along with a Clustering Algorithm that immensely reduces the data needed for training, a limited number of CFD simulations can suffice in effectively decoupling fluid and thermal-structural simulations. This approach becomes highly significant when complex geometries or dynamic components are considered. However, there is still scope for improvement in the reduction of time needed to train CDs. Parallel computation can be effectively utilized in decoupling approach in simultaneous execution of (i) CFD simulations and data export, and (ii) Clustering technique involving Genetic Algorithm and Radial Basis Function interpolation, which clusters and optimizes the training data for CDs. Parallelization reduces the entire computation duration from several days to a few hours and thereby, improving the efficiency and ease-of-use of decoupling simulation approach.

Opis:
Thermo-elastic effects contribute the most to positioning errors in machine tools especially in operations where high precision machining is involved. When a machine tool is subjected to changes in environmental influences such as ambient air temperature, velocity or direction, then flow (CFD) simulations are necessary to effectively quantify the thermal behaviour between the machine tool surface and the surrounding air (fluid). Heat transfer coefficient (HTC) values effectively represent this solid-fluid heat transfer and it serves as the boundary data for thermo-elastic simulations. Thereby, deformation results can be obtained. This two-step simulation procedure involving fluid and thermo-structural simulations is highly complex and time-consuming. A suitable alternative for the above process can be obtained by introducing a clustering algorithm (CA) and characteristic diagrams (CDs) in the workflow. CDs are continuous maps of a set of input variables onto a single output variable, which are trained using data from a limited number of CFD simulations which is optimized using the clustering technique involving genetic algorithm (GA) and radial basis function (RBF) interpolation. The parameterized environmental influences are mapped directly onto corresponding HTC values in each CD. Thus, CDs serve as look-up tables which provide boundary data (HTC values along with nodal information) under several load cases (combinations of environmental influences) for thermo-elastic simulations. Ultimately, a decoupled fluid-structural simulation system is obtained where boundary (convection) data for thermo-mechanical simulations can be directly obtained from CDs and would no longer require fluid simulations to be carried out again. Thus, a novel approach for the correction of thermo-elastic deformations on a machine tool is obtained.

The aim of the paper is to present a structure for nursing education simulation that incorporates elements of blended and online simulation in a socially constructivist, culturally sensitive environment. To develop the structure for nursing education, a descriptive literature review was conducted in spring 2022 on simulations implemented in mental health nursing education. Nurses require the skills and knowledge to provide mental health care in every area of health care. According to the descriptive literature review, simulation-based learning such as high-fidelity mental health simulation resulted in increased confidence, knowledge gains and improved communication skills. Simulation is a wide concept and allows nurse lecturers to implement the pedagogy as they see it best. The simulation structure helps especially beginners to follow the simulation as a process. The structure eases the planning phase as well as the debriefing part of the simulation. As it has been shown in the analysis of the literature simulation can be effectively implemented in a blended and / or online environment. It is expected that in the future, simulation games and virtual, online simulations will be more typical ways to conduct a simulation.

Opis:
Vehicle emission calculation is critical for evaluating motor vehicle related environmental protection policies. Currently, many studies calculate vehicle emissions from integrating the microscopic traffic simulation model and the vehicle emission model. However, conventionally vehicle emission models are presented as a stand-alone software, requiring a laborious processing of the simulated second-by-second vehicle activity data. This is inefficient, in particular, when multiple runs of vehicle emission calculations are needed. Therefore, an integrated vehicle emission computation system is proposed around a microscopic traffic simulation model. In doing so, the relational database technique is used to store the simulated traffic activity data, and these data are used in emission computation through a built-in emission computation module developed based on the IVE model. In order to ensure the validity of the simulated vehicle activity data, the simulation model is calibrated using the genetic algorithm. The proposed system was implemented for a central urban region of Nanjing city. Hourly vehicle emissions of three types of vehicles were computed using the proposed system for the afternoon peak period, and the results were compared with those computed directly from the IVE software with a trivial difference in the results from the proposed system and the IVE software, indicating the validity of the proposed system. In addition, it was found for the study region that passenger cars are critical for controlling CO, buses are critical for controlling CO and VOC, and trucks are critical for controlling NOx and CO2. Future work is to test the proposed system in more traffic management and control strategies, and more vehicle emission models are to be incorporated in the system.
