Opis:
With the numerous improvements in cereal tissue and wheat anther culture, it is necessary to determine which of the improvements should be combined for optimal response. This study was conducted using one highly responsive cultivar of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. Pavon 76) to test the effectiveness of pre-culture cold treatment (0 or 3-7 days at 5°C) of anthers, five initiation basal media, and various changes in Murashige-Skoog regeneration media. A cold pre-culture treatment was inhibitory for all initiation media for embryoid initiation. Of the initiation media, P1, 85D12, and N6 were similar for embryoid initiation (0.80 to 0.90 embryoids/anther) without a cold pre-culture treatment. Plant regeneration was improved by the addition of amino acids or glucose, increased sucrose concentration, filter sterilizing the medium, and altering plant growth regulator concentrations. P1 medium which is normally used for embryoid initiation was also beneficial for improving plant regeneration. Ethylene inhibitors were generally not beneficial.

Opis:
Bioceramic materials, such as hydroxyapatite (HAp), are characterized by high biocompatibility in the presence of tissues and body fluids without causing toxic or allergic reactions. Hydroxyapatite, due to its similarity to structures found in bones, is used both in the form of powders, e.g. as additives to bone cements, and implants coatings. However, this material is not characterized by antimicrobial properties, therefore attempts are made to improve its properties by introducing additional elements into the hydroxyapatite structure. Thanks to HAp’s high ion-exchange ability, silver can be introduced into its structure. The calcium ions present in the HAp structure can be easily replaced by silver ions to create a material endowed with high biocompatibility and antibacterial properties. The presented study is based on the analysis of the morphology of the modified powders via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), their chemical composition via X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and chemical structure via X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. The powders obtained through the ion exchange were mixtures of silver phosphates Ag3PO4 and HAp. The highest silver content was found in the sample modified with a 1M concentration of AgNO3 in the aqueous solution. It was also determined that the annealing of the obtained powders under vacuum at 800°C resulted in the formation of metallic silver and a change in the structure of HAp to β-TCP.

Opis:
Systems containing sodium water glass produced at Zakłady Chemiczne in Rudniki and silver nitrate were examined by turbimetric method based on obtaining dissolved silver silicate. From turbidimetry waveform we obtained results indicating that silver silicate is formed immediately in initial phase of measuerment and has no further increase of turbidity in time. The values of turbidity and surface tension of studied system depend on the value of Mk. Low-module silicates can be treated as more useful in removing Ag+ ions from water media.

Opis:
Effect of lead nitrate addition on cyanidation of Havran, Ovacık, Mastra LCu (low copper) and Mastra HCu (high copper) gold ores was investigated by laboratory tests at the Ovacik Gold Mine Metallurgy Laboratory. Leach tests were performed at optimum NaCN additions and pH values while different lead nitrate additions were applied. Ovacik cyanidation plant leaching time, 24 hours for the constant 100 Mg/h ore feed rate was applied as optimal for all lead nitrate tests. Results showed the increase in gold and silver recoveries between 0.4-1.2% for gold and 3.9-11.6% for silver at the end of 24 hours leaching by the addition of lead nitrate as 0.1-0.5 kg/Mg. NaCN consumption decreased or did not change except for the Ovacik ore. In the case of the Ovacik ore it slightly increased.

Opis:
The leaching behaviour of a sulphide gold-silver ore was investigated in terms of a relationship between gold and silver extractions and cyanide consumption. Ninity five Au % and 88.0% Ag extractions were obtained under the determined conditions of 24 h leaching duration, -74 μm particle size, 40% solids ratio, 4 g/dm3 NaCN concentration, and 450 rpm stirring speed with NaCN consumption of 3.35 g/dm3. Since the NaCN consumption was higher than in industrial applications, Pb(NO3)2 and H2O2 additions and aeration using an air pump were tested during leaching in order to decrease the consumption. While Pb(NO3)2 addition with aeration caused a decrease in the metal extractions, the individual or combined additions of H2O2 and aeration could not provide a reduction in the cyanide consumption. Therefore, the effect of the pre-aeration followed by cyanidation was tested. Eventually, applying 4 h of pre-aeration before a shorter leaching duration of 12 h provided 92.0% Au and 90.5% Ag extractions with a reduced NaCN consumption of 2.44 g/dm3.

Opis:
The electrodeposition of silver from AgNO3 solutions with the addition of L-tartaric acid was investigated. The cathodic reaction was accompanied by low electrode polarization and run under activation control for AgNO3 concentrations of above 70 mM. Tartaric acid only slightly shifted the polarization curves towards more electronegative potentials (by approx. 50 mV), but it did not change the rate-determining step. The activation control of the process resulted in the formation of rough and coherent deposits, while the mixed or diffusion control of the process promoted the formation of dendritic-like structures and spongy deposits.
Przeprowadzono badania katodowego osadzania srebra z roztworów AgNO3 zawierających L-kwas winowy. Reakcji katodowej towarzyszy mała polaryzacja elektrody, a redukcja biegnie w zakresie kontroli aktywacyjnej dla stężeń AgNO3 powyżej 70 mM. Dodatek kwasu winowego w niewielkim stopniu przesuwa krzywe polaryzacyjne w kierunku bardziej ujemnych potencjałów (o ok. 50 mV), nie zmieniając jednak etapu powolnego reakcji katodowej. W zakresie kontroli aktywacyjnej tworzą się szorstkie i zwarte warstwy srebra, natomiast zakres kontroli mieszanej lub stężeniowej sprzyja tworzeniu się struktur dendrytopodobnych lub gąbczastych.

Opis:
In the present work, the dried biomass of soil isolated fungus Eurotium cristatum was used for synthesizing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The synthesized AgNPs were spherical in shape with average diameter of 16.56 nm and displayed maximum absorbance at 418. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) study indicated the presence and binding of proteins with myco-produced silver nanoparticles. The optimum conditions for AgNPs biosynthesis were found to be at temperature of 40°C, pH of 8.0, substrate concentration of 500 ppm and fungal biomass wt. of 0.8 g. The AgNPs showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli and Shigella flexneri. AgNPs was built-in thin film nanocomposite (TFNC) membrane and the impacts of nanomaterial composition on membrane properties and desalination process were studied. The AgNPs produced membrane TFNC had better filtration performances than pure thin film composite membrane TFC. The TFNC membrane had enhanced water flux (32.0 vs. 16.5 dm3∙m–2∙h–1) and advanced NaCl rejection (91.7 vs. 89%) compared to the TFC membrane. A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of the irrigation with desalinated water on yield and productivity of essential oil of the sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) and lavender (Lavandula multifida L.). The irrigation with desalinated water reduced significantly the soil reaction, soil electrical conductivity (EC), sodium adsorption ratio and exchangeable sodium percent in rhizospheric soil, it also enhanced the growth and oil yield of both plants compared with those irrigated with salt water.
