Opis:
Ship motion affects quality of acoustic data collected by various acoustic remote sensing systems used for bottom and fisheries surveying. The angular position of an acoustic beam changes in time from its nominal position vertical to sea surface. This motion affects the acoustic returns from the bottom and other targets by changing their intensity and arrival times. In this paper we illustrate these effects on bottom returns obtained using single beam sonar.

Opis:
Interpolation of ship motion vectors is able to be used for estimating the lost ship AIS dynamic information, which is important for replaying marine accidents and for analysing marine traffic data. The previous methods can only interpolate ship’s position, while not including ship's course and speed. In this paper, vector function is used to express the relationship between the ship’s time and space coordinates, and the tangent of the vector function and its change rate are able to express physical characteristics of ship’s course, speed and acceleration. The given AIS dynamic information can be applied to calculate the parameters of ship's vector function and then the interpolation model for ship motion vectors is developed to estimate the lost ship dynamic information at any given moment. Experiment results show that the ship motion vector function is able to depict the characteristics of ship motions accurately and the model can estimate not only the ship’s position but also ship’s course and speed at any given moment with limited differences.

Opis:
In the development of ship motion control systems, software simulations or scale model experiments in pools or open water are very often carried out in the verification and testing stages. This paper describes the process of building a software wave simulator based on data gathered on the Silm Lake near Iława, Poland, where scale ship models are used for research and training. The basis of the simulator structure is a set of shaping filters fed with Gaussian white noise. These filters are built in the form of transfer functions generating irregular wave signals for different input wind forces. To enable simulation of a wide range of wind speeds, nonlinear interpolation is used. The lake wave simulation method presented in this paper fills a gap in current research, and enables accurate modelling of characteristic environmental disturbances on a small lake for motion control experiments of scale model ships.

Opis:
The increase of seakeeping performance is of particular importance for car and passenger ferries, service ships in the gas and oil extraction industry and offshore wind power farm industry, as well as for special purpose ships (including military applications). In the water areas of the Baltic Sea, North Sea, and Mediterranean Sea, which are characterised by a short and steep wave, the hull shape has a substantial impact on the operational capacity and propulsion efficiency of the ship, as well as on comfort and safety of navigation. The article analyses selected aspects of seakeeping for four variants of a selected case study vessel, indicating practical limitations of the strip method. The analysed aspects included hull heaving and pitching, added resistance, Motion Thickness Indicator (MSI), and Subjective Magnitude (SM). Experimental tests were also performed in the towing tank. Their comparison with the numerical results has indicated high inaccuracy of the strip method. What is more, the simplified representation of hull shape used in the strip method makes it impossible to analyse the effect of hull shape changes on the predicted seakeeping characteristics. Especially for the case of head wave, neglecting highly non-linear phenomena, such as slamming or head wave breaking, in strip method-based computer simulations will significantly decrease the reliability of the obtained results. When using the strip method, the seakeeping analysis should be complemented with model tests in a towing tank, or by another more complex numerical analysis, such as CFD for instance.

Opis:
Due to safety reasons, the movement of a ship in coastal areas should be monitored, tracked, recorded, and stored. The Automatic Identification System (AIS) is a suitable tool to use in performing these functions. The probability limit for the AIS dynamic data availability can be limited by the lack of a Global Position System (GPS) signal, heading (HDG), and rate of turn (ROT) data in the position report. The unavailability of a data link is an additional limitation. To fill this gap, it is possible to attach the discrete Kalman filter (KF) for the position and course estimation. Coordinate estimation in the absence of a transmission link can improve the quality of the AIS service at Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) stations. This paper has presented the Kalman filtering algorithm to improve the possibilities for ship motion tracking and monitoring in the TSS (Traffic Separation Scheme) and fairways area. More than 570 iterations were calculated and the results have been presented in figures to familiarize the reader with the operating principle of the Kalman filter algorithm.

Opis:
Wnioski i uwagi końcowe wytyczają dalszy kierunek prac.
Maritime transport is of great importance as it is the basis of international trade. Together with the growth of maritime traffic intensity the need of further safety development at sea is increasing. In the paper the model describing ships' motion at routes crossing in terms of operational reliability is presented. There are considered classical ship routes' crossing and roundabout with two vessel priority scenarios. One assuming priority of vessel being on starboard and second assuming priority of vessel being on the roundabout. The system is discussed as a multistate model with reliability state and unreliability state with ignored and non-ignored time of renovation. In the paper for the description of ships motion the simple cellular automaton model, that provides the basis for the simulation, is applied. The motion of the ship is determined by its direction, velocity and length of the ship. The traffic lanes are divided into cells. The length of the cell depends on the flows' intensities, vessels' velocities and size. The simulation is performed on account of traffic flow intensity changing and statistical analysis of simulation results is given. Final conclusion and remarks outline further work development.

The controller has a hierarchical structure, in which independent coordinated fuzzy-logic controllers for vessel motion components are situated. The controllers perform in two modes: as velocity controllers and position controllers. The paper is completed with computer simulations.

Opis:
The stochastic process of container loading is described in the paper with special emphasis to ship motion when she is lying at a quay. The 3 DOF system was applied to describe rolling, pitching and heaving of a vessel which may cause a significant variations of momentary deck elevation. The realistic range of such variations are assessed for a variety of cargo locations on-board and a phase shift between two independent gantries engaged in cargo operations. The process is modeled with regard to random character of crucial variables affecting ship motion due to cargo loading.
