Opis:
The paper is devoted to an axisymmetric bending problem of a generalized circular sandwich plate with continuous variation of mechanical properties in the thickness direction of the core. The plate is clamped and carries a concentrated force in its center. The improved shear deformation theory of the normal straight line to the neutral surface is elaborated. The deformation of this normal straight line is graphically presented for the exemplary sandwich structures of the plate. Two differential equation of equilibrium of the plate are obtained based on the principle of stationary potential energy. This system of equations is analytically solved and the maximum deflection of the example plates are derived. Moreover, the deformation of the normal strain line and the maximum deflection of the plate are calculated numerically (FEM). Results of these calculations are compared.

Opis:
This research paper presents a higher order isogeometric laminated composite plate finite element formulation. The isogeometric formulation is based on NURBS (non-uniform rational B-splines) basis functions of varying degree. Plate kinematics is based on the third order shear deformation theory (TSDT) of Reddy in order to avoid shear locking. Free vibration and the buckling response of laminated composite plates are obtained and efficiency of the method is considered. Numerical results with different element order are presented and the obtained results are compared to analytical and conventional numerical results as well as existing isogeometric plate finite elements.

This paper is devoted to the analytical modelling of a sandwich beam. Three models of this beam are elaborated. Two nonlinear individual shear theories of deformation of a plane cross-sections are proposed. Based on Hamilton’s principle, two differential equations of motion for each model are obtained. The bending, buckling and free flexural vibration problems of the simply-supported sandwich beam considering these three models are studied. The results of these analytical investigations are presented in tables.

Opis:
This paper is devoted to the behavior of a non-homogeneous simply supported beam under three-point bending. The individual shear deformation function of a planar cross-section is adopted, and longitudinal displacements, strains, and stresses for two parts of the beam are explained. By applying the principle of stationary potential energy, a system of two differential equations of equilibrium is derived and solved analytically. The positions of the neutral axis, shear coefficients, and deflections are then calculated for three different beam families. Additionally, the bending problem of these beams is studied numerically using the finite element method (FEM). The results of both analytical and numerical calculations are presented in tables and figures. The main contribution of this paper lies in the development of an analytical model incorporating the individual shear deformation function and a numerical FEM model for this beam.

Opis:
This paper presents the plate structural analysis based on the finite element method (FEM) using a double interpolation element with arbitrary meshing. This element used in this research is related to the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and the double interpolation procedure. The first stage of the procedure is the same with the standard FEM for the quadrilateral element, but the averaged nodal gradients must be computed for the second stage of this interpolation. Shape functions established by the double interpolation procedure exhibit more continuous nodal gradients and higher-order polynomial contrast compared to the standard FEM when analysing the same mesh. Note that the total degrees of freedom (DOFs) do not increase in this procedure, and the trial solution and its derivatives are continuous across inter-element boundaries. Besides, with controlling distortion factors, the interior nodes of a plate domain are derived from a set of regular nodes. Four practical examples with good results and small errors are considered in this study for showing excellent efficiency for this element. Last but not least, this element allows us to implement the procedure in an existing FEM computer code as well as can be used for nonlinear analysis in the near future.

Mechanical behavior of a bilayer graphene cylindrical panel and nano-tube is studied based on nonlocal continuum mechanics with regard to this aim, von-Karman assumptions and nonlocal theory of Eringen are considered. Then, the governing equations and boundary conditions have been derived applying energy method. While analyzing the bilayer cylindrical panel, the van der Waals interaction between the layers is considered in calculations. The constitutive equations are developed for nano-tubes under internal and external pressures. In order to solve the governing equations, the semi-analytical polynomial method (SAPM), which was presented by the authors before, is utilized and bending behavior of bilayer cylindrical panels and nano-tubes is investigated. Finally, the effects of temperature, boundary conditions, elastic foundation, loading, van der Waals interaction between the layers and single layer to bilayer analyses are studied for graphene cylindrical panels and nano-tubes.

Opis:
The effect of material inhomogeneity on displacements and stresses of an internally pressurized clamped-clamped thick hollow cylinder made of functionally graded materials is investigated. The modulus of elasticity is graded along the radial direction according to power functions of the radial direction. It is assumed that Poisson’s ratio is constant across the cylinder thickness. The governing differential equations were generally derived, making use of the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT). Following that, the set of non-homogenous linear differential equations for the cylinder with clamped-clamped ends was solved, and the effect of loading and supports on the stresses and displacements was investigated. The problem was also solved, using the finite element method (FEM), the results of which were compared with those of the analytical method.

Opis:
In this study, a finite element based formulation is developed for analyzing the buckling and post-buckling of composite laminates subjected to mechanical and hygrothermal loads using Modified Hyperbolic Shear Deformation Theory (MHSDT). The changes in the critical buckling load are presented for different lamination schemes, thicknesses, material properties and plate aspect ratios. In addition, post buckling analysis is performed for a composite plate subjected to uniform in-plane thermal and moisture induced loadings by using MHSDT. Matlab software has been used for programming the analysis. The results obtained by Matlab codes are in a satisfactory consistence compared to the references. Thus, the developed MHSDT has been validated for buckling and post buckling analysis of laminated plates in hygrothermal environment.

Opis:
Linear and nonlinear phenomena play important role in applied mathematics, physics and also in engineering problems in which any parameter may vary depending on different factors. In recent years, the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) is constantly being developed and applied to solve various linear and nonlinear problems. In this paper, static analysis of functionally graded piezoelectric beams based on the first-order shear deformation theory under thermal loads has been investigated. The beam with a functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) is graded in the thickness direction and a simple power law index governs the piezoelectric material properties. The electric potential is assumed linear across the beam thickness. The governing equations are obtained using potential energy and Hamilton's principle and may lead to a system of differential equations. We suggest two methods to solve this problem, the homotopy perturbation and analytical solution obtained by the finite Fourier transformation. The homotopy perturbation method and a proper algorithm are suggested to solve simultaneous differential equations. The results are presented for different power law indexes under uniform thermal gradient. The results are compared with the analytical solution obtained by the finite Fourier transformation for simply supported boundary conditions.
W ostatnich latach perturbacyjna metoda homotopii (HPM) ulegała ciągłemu rozwojowi i znalazła zastosowanie w rozwiązywaniu różnorodnych liniowych i nieliniowych zadań.

Opis:
In this paper, a displacement based shear deformation theory formulated on the cubic in-plane displacement field equation of Reddy and Liu is presented for the static bending analysis of isotropic circular cylindrical shells. The adopted displacement field accounts for a quadratic (parabolic) distribution of the transverse shear through the shell thickness as well as satisfies the need for a stress free upper and lower boundary surfaces of the shell. The equations of static equilibrium are obtained on application of the principle of virtual work. Numerical results of the bending analysis for the displacements and stresses are presented for the simply supported shell. A comparison made to those of the Kirchhoff-Love theory for varying shell length to mean – radius of curvature ratios, shows good agreement for thin shells irrespective of the shell length to radius of curvature ratio [...]. The transverse sharing effect is found to be noticeable in the deformation of thick shells, however, this effect diminishes with a continuous increase in [...] ratios.
