In the middle of the 90s the deterioration of wheels flanges and lateral rail surfaces on roads in the countries of CIS from natural process of wear process of surfaces has turned to the sharp problem which has received the status of a Ťrail plagueť. On separate roads the lateral deterioration of rails has reached 1 mm times 10 tons, by exceeding a level of normative deterioration in some times. Thus the run of wheel pairs between regrinding on flange undercuts was reduced in by 3-5 times [5]. In the article some ways of elimination of deterioration of wheels and rails are considered. The technique of process modeling of parameters changes of deterioration is offered.

Various mechanical systems demand precise positioning control strategies. Cascade control of DC motor driving unit is still one of the most popular structures of automatic positioning. One of the main problems of this structures are the oscillations of the current, speed and position. All of these oscillations negatively effect on the electronics and mechanics live time. The method of input shaping (or in general signal shaping) is used to reduce this problem. The signal shaping was implemented for reference torque, reference speed and reference position signal. The common work of multiple input shapers is also presented. The results were compared with control without of signal shaping. The robustness for parameters change was tested. The research was conducted in MATLAB/Simulink environment.

Many mechanical systems are characterized by flexible joints. One of the main problems in control of this kind of devices are the mechanical oscillations. To avoid the problem of vibrations the input shaping method might be used. For the systems with variable parameters the standard methods of simple input shaping are insufficient and non-robust. More complicated algorithms, exemplary super-robust, can be used, but have negative influence on the regulation time. The alternative method is an adaptive algorithm of input shaping. Both methods are compared on the crane system with variable load mass and line length. The algorithms of system parameter changing are executed with variable speed. The research was made in Matlab/Simulink environment.

The aim of this paper is to evaluate personnel services input aimed at molding the image of the organization. The paper presents the results of a pilot study conducted in June of 2009 on fifty-five workers from three medium-size enterprises from the Podlasie Voivodeship. The opinion of the respondents is that the personnel department's contribution in providing human resource management is generally low, which in turn translates into an unsatisfactory image of the organization. Thus, there is an urgent need for personnel departments to take actions aimed at improving the level of human resource management so as to achieve employee satisfaction while simultaneously working to improve the image of the examined organization.

Na przestrzeni wieków przemiany zachodzące w zakresie funkcji i sposobu kształtowania przegród zewnętrznych, a w szczególności elewacji, spowodowały istotne zmiany w projektowaniu architektury. We współczesnej architekturze elewacja stanowi jeden z najważniejszych elementów wizualnych silnie wpływających na kształtowanie obiektu inteligentnego, efektywnego i zrównoważonego.
Over the centuries, the transformation taking place in terms of features and how to shape the external divisions, and the facade in particular, caused significant changes in the design of architecture. In modern architecture, the facade is one of the most important visual elements which strongly influences the formation of an intelligent, efficient and sustainable object. The increasingly complex issues and more efficient methods of searching, cause a continuous evolution of the facade concept. The ever changing design trends shape structural surfaces with emergent characteristics, imprinting a clear sign of the times in contemporary architecture. The "emerging" new concepts in the design of modern architecture are often original solution of qualitatively higher generation developed as a result of a synergistic pursuit. The visible architectural object give an ambiguous meaning to "stability", which is part of the Vitruvian triad, changing the time factor in the both passive (effective objects, which do not require changes in its structure over time) and active aspects (those elevations that vary over time). As a result, the modern approach to the issues concerning form and facade shaping leads to the search for new opportunities and ways to design, turning the structural surfaces into a particular environmental element.

Various mechanical systems are characterized with flexible joints. Exemplary this class of systems are the conveyers motors, the industrial robots and the cranes. The mechanical properties of those objects can be approximated by two-mass system. The paper presents the time-optimal input shaping methods for two-mass system. The control signal has to reach the set value of displacement in the shortest time, without of rising the mechanical oscillations. It was established, that the summary moment of inertia is constant, but division of mass is changing. For this case robustness for wide range of parameters deviations was analyzed. The model included PMSM motor with limited dynamics of current regulation. The research were conducted in Matlab/Simulink enviroment.

In order to increase the efficiency of jet engines hard to machine nickel-based and titanium-based alloys are in common use for aero engine components such as blades and blade integrated disks (BLISK). Electrochemical Machining (ECM) provides an economical and effective method for machining high strength and heat-resistant materials into complex shapes with high material removal rate without tool wear and without inducing residual stress. This article presents the physical and mathematical models of electrochemical shaping used in the manufacture of turbine engine parts. The modelling is based on the assumption that the multi-phase mixture filling the gap is treated as two-phase quasi-homogenous medium. The model describes the workpiece shape evolution in time, distribution the local gap size, flow parameters such as the static pressure and the velocity, temperature and void fraction as result of gas generation. The major features of the numerical computer program are briefly described with a selected example of machining a typical turbine blade. The results of computer simulation of effects of setting parameters ECM on accuracy-machined profile are discussed. The improvement of accuracy has been reached by using described sequence of ECM and Pulse ECM processes.

The aim of this article is to present the role of landscape in shaping the image of cities, and to stress the need of reinterpreting the approaches and activities related to city landscape. The general remarks on the need and attitude to the landscape protection have been presented, as well as some positive examples of the activities related to enhance or restore the green and recreation areas within the cities, or create them on the areas previously of other functions. In contrary, some threats related to the development and the quality of life in metropolis, caused by wrong decision concerning the townscape, have been shown. The case study of Gdansk sea-shore area was chosen as an example illustrating these thesis. These study cases prove, that there is a need of strategic planning of city landscape, and of development of special tools and methods. The landscape studies should be connected with the processes of town planning, especially in the context of rapid urbanization, technological and social changes, and growing consumption in relation to the environment.

Many mechanical objects are characterized by flexible joint. This systems are represented by cranes, conveyers drives, robotic arms, aircraft turbines and others. Many of this objects can be approximated as multi-mass system or, in the simplest cases, two-mass systems. The two mass system is very convenient in tests because of many reasons. First of all it is easy to model and simulate. Additionally changes in parameters to obtain specific targets are easy to calculate and design. The paper shows three input shapers used to control the two-mass system with variable moments of inertia. It was assumed, that the sum of moments of inertia of both masses is constant. All input shapers are analyzed for robustness. The research was made in Matlab/Simulink environment.

Structure is an essential element of most architecture works, but beyond its main function to carry loads, it can also enrich and animate the architectural space. The architect, in cooperation with the engineer, may expand awareness of the architectural potential of the load-bearing system and design efficient structural forms that are based on the natural flow of forces and are simultaneously functional, unique, and aesthetic. The article shows how to design such forms and attempts to demonstrate that they can have a positive impact on the originality and beauty of an architectural object.

The long-term process of education, and above all, shaping the desired social attitudes among young citizens of each country is the basis of the future social order. Individual moral order translates directly into order in social structures and relations, which is important in the context of ensuring both internal and external security. In an orderly society, the so-called “strong moral backbone” is much more resistant to threats, and also much more effective in counteracting them. Unfortunately, the issue of moral education is not much emphasised in contemporary educational systems. Therefore, the main goal of this article is to identify the components of the moral education process as key factors shaping the contemporary order and social security. Thus, the issues of moral disorder as a source of real threats, both in the individual and social dimension, as well as the problem of moral education as the basis for shaping the desired social attitudes in the contemporary world, were analysed. In order to achieve the assumed goal, the following research methods (theoretical) were used: analysis, synthesis, abstraction, explanation, generalization, and inference. The research was carried out using the technique of examining documents and source materials.

Purpose: The main aim of the study is to depict the characteristics of some of the most common concepts of urban reconstruction (compact city, sustainable city, smart city, as well as their hybrids), present practical aspects of the indicated urban policies and attempt to verify their implementation. Design/methodology/approach: The study is based on the presentation of selected theoretical concepts. In the empirical part, the authors use the method of case studies, presenting the effects of municipal investments and practical obstacles occurring during their implementation. They form assessments based on current media reports, articles in specialist press, as well as statements made by residents. Findings: Contemporary cities are spaces of various challenges that become sources of conflicts as well as places of unmet needs and unfulfilled ambitions. Although the decision-makers make their decisions in connection with these challenges, their interventions are not always effective. The concepts of a compact city, a smart city and a sustainable city serve as recipes for the problems of modern cities: both the short-term ones and those which require shaping a comprehensive policy for the development of cities and urban areas. However, cities are not always properly diagnosed, and local authorities often lack specialists who could consciously and skilfully propose an optimal therapy. Originality and value: The study presents an original analysis of selected case studies which relate to the shaping of the space of Polish cities. The study focuses on the challenges of shaping urban areas in relation to contemporary trends in city planning and design determined by the importance of such issues as the quality of life of residents, the quality of space, its democratisation and sustainability, the presence of art, closed circulation or the use of modern technology and creativity in the process of managing modern cities and their space.

The aim of this work is to propose a sandwich beam with stepped layer thickness in three parts along its length. The total depth, width of the cross-section and its mass are constant. The beam is under a uniformly distributed load. The system of two equilibrium equa-tions was formulated for each part based on the literature. This system was analytically solved for the successive parts of the beam and the functions of the shear effect and deflection were determined in them. The effective stepped layer thicknesses was determined on the basis of the adopted criterion for minimizing the maximum deflection of the beam. The example calculations were made for two elected beams. The effective shapes of these beams are shown in the figures. Moreover, FEM numerical calculations of the deflections of these beams are performed.

Culture is the totality of the material and spiritual heritage of humanity, gathered and adhesion should be shaped a person’s life from an early age. The main role in this process are: the family home and the school. It also applies to the process of the formation of the student to the broader safety culture, which creates and maintains all attitudes and actions to protect the health and life. The law on the education system for the dissemination of knowledge among youth about safety and the development of appropriate attitudes towards risks, however, it seems that this system is not sufficient. Central Institute for labour protection-materials developed a “culture of safety”, which constitute an invaluable added value in the process of training students at all levels of school education.
