    In the article the author indicates the existence of different opinions on the meaning of gender and sex. In this context she refers to Raewyn W. Connell's the theory of gender according to which all types of masculinity and femininity existing in society today are dominated by hegemonic masculinity. She presents the results of her own research which is aimed at discovering young men's prejudice towards their own sex. The research examines the subject of men studying nursing and working as nurses. Even though the results of the analysis do not allow to state the crisis of masculinity, they certainly prove the necessity of redefining what is manly. In the face of the asymmetry of demographic processes and the pessimistic diagnosis of the numbers of nurses and midwives in the near future the thinking patterns existing among the examined group, which stress the feminine character of the above mentioned studies and profession are quite disturbing. The profession, often related by the respondents with low income, is in their opinion irreconcilable with the image of man, embedded in their mentality as the main breadwinner.

    The feminist interpretation of The Dictionary of the language of Jan Chryzostom Pasek consisted in searching for information on the status and position of women during the baroque period, and in tracing these lexicographic tools, which revealed the hierarchy of gender related values employed by its editors. The analysis focused on lexicographic articles describing persons of female gender in juxtaposition with their male counterparts. The Dictionary reflects all of the central features of patriarchal culture of Polish Sarmatia and the entailed asymmetry of gender roles. However, as the gender category has not been sufficiently accounted for in the lexicographic treatment of personal nouns, The Dictionary does not appreciate some of the cultural content.

    The aim of the work was to learn about the conditions of practicing football by women and to determine positive effects and negative stereotypes accompanying this discipline, the basis being the opinions of female players, as well as student self-government representatives. The study was conducted among 100 Polish female footballers from Exstraliga, 1st League and 2nd League, along with 31 members of student self-governments, representing all physical education universities in Poland. The diagnostic survey method was employed and the techniques of questionnaire, interview and participatory observation were used. For the statistical inference frequency of characteristics, the chi-square test of independence and multiple correspondence analysis were applied. The analyzes confirmed a significant correlation between the recognition of benefits of playing football by women, the perception of the functioning of negative stereotypes and the sporting level of the groups distinguished. The 2nd and 1st League players associated practicing football with the possibilities for developing their personality traits, physical fitness and health, and promoting the discipline (in each case p ≤ 0.05). All the footballers emphasized the risk of injury. The Extraliga players most often felt the stereotypical perception of female footballers as non-heterosexual (p ≤ 0.05). Attribution of non-heterosexuality to female footballers was confirmed by self-government activists (p ≤ 0.05). Women who played football showed a high tolerance toward non-heterosexual people. The Extraliga players were characterized by the highest tolerance (p ≤ 0.05). CPEU activists represented stereotypical views on the selection of typically feminine sports. Among ten disciplines suitable for women, they did not list women's football. There is an urgent need for public education to combat negative stereotypes concerning women practicing traditional male sports disciplines, as well as for tolerance toward people of a different sexual orientation.

    This paper is devoted to three basic problems: gender stereotypes, styles of sexual education and the relation between these two phenomena. The main question is: do the styles of sexual education experienced in a family determine the tendency to use gender stereotypes? Basing on the literature, a hypothetical model of relation between styles of sexual education and gender stereotypes was constructed. The model was a source of investigations conducted by the author and described in the paper. Young adults’ tendency to use gender stereotypes seems to be determined by their mothers’ stereotypes and by three styles of sexual education experienced in their families.

    The article is focused on the most common stereotypes existing in social perception of women providing sexual services. The presented research findings are related to two detailed problems: (1) How women offering sexual services are perceived in virtual space, which creates the possibility of complete anonymity of speech? (2) What are the stereotypes about sex workers presented on Internet forums on prostitution? An analysis of 20 online forums including 2,403 posts in which prostitution is the main subject defining a framework for discussion was carried out, using qualitative analysis strategies. The selection of online forums was made on the basis of the web engine search results for two questions: “What do you think about prostitution?”, “What do you think about women prostitutes?”. The research implementation and analysis took place in September to October 2013. The stereotypes about female sex workers appearing on the Internet forums were grouped into certain categories, having the ordering character. These are the stereotypes perceived in the context of the causes of prostitution (indicating a certain personality, environmental or cultural factors), the characteristics of female sex workers (mostly negative, demonstrating definite character traits) and the specificity of their working conditions.

    Prostitution is a phenomenon that evokes extreme emotions in the discourse. Stereotypes and myths in which the phenomenon of prostitution has outgrown dwarf the real picture of this phenomenon. Nowadays, the most important issue is a reflection on causes and consequences of this phenomenon. The phenomenon of prostitution puts to the test traditional concepts defining human sexuality – what its limits are and how to separate what falls within socially acceptable norms and what does not. Prostitution, on the one hand, appears as a necessity and on the other hand as a safety valve for the society. The ambiguity of the phenomenon of prostitution is illustrated by doubts around the legalisation on prostitution.
    Prostytucja jest zjawiskiem wywołującym skrajne emocje w dyskursie. Stereotypy i mity, w które obrósł ten proceder, przyćmiewają jego rzeczywisty obraz. Istotna jest zatem refleksja na temat przyczyn i konsekwencji prostytucji. Negatywna konotacja wyrażeń, określających osoby świadczące usługi seksualne, wpływa na rozumienie i kształtowanie stereotypów. Istnienie prostytucji wystawia na próbę tradycyjne pojęcia definiujące seksualność człowieka. Z jednej strony jawi się jako konieczność, a z drugiej jako wentyl bezpieczeństwa społeczeństwa. Jakie są zatem jej granice i jak oddzielić to, co mieści się w akceptowalnych społecznie normach, a co nie. Wątpliwości związane z legalizacją prostytucji pokazują, jak niejednoznaczne jest to zjawisko.

    Rape myths can be defined as prejudicial, stereotyped or false beliefs about rape, rape victims, and rapists, and they include common opinions whereby women mean “yes” when they say “no”; women provoke rape; if a woman does not want to be raped, she will just fight back at any cost. These pervasive social attitudes can have a detrimental effect on victims of sexual violence, especially when employed by authorities during official proceedings. As such, this article aims at analyzing to what extent rape myths affect the perception of victims of sexual violence during the official proceedings on the example of the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). Thus the first part explains the notion of rape myths, while the second part provides an analysis of the jurisprudence of the ECHR. Lastly, the final part suggests new approach to cases concerning sexual violence.
    Mity wspierające kulturę gwałtu można zdefiniować jako krzywdzące, stereotypowe lub fałszywe przekonania na temat gwałtu, ofiar gwałtu i gwałcicieli, obejmujące takie twierdzenia, jak: kobiety mają na myśli „tak”, gdy mówią „nie”; kobiety prowokują gwałt; jeśli kobieta nie chce być zgwałcona, będzie walczyć za wszelką cenę. Te wszechobecne postawy społeczne mogą mieć szkodliwy wpływ na ofiary przemocy seksualnej, zwłaszcza gdy są one stosowane w trakcie postępowań. W związku z tym celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza wpływu mitów na postrzeganie ofiar przemocy seksualnej w trakcie oficjalnych postępowań na przykładzie orzecznictwa Europejskiego Trybunału Praw Człowieka (ETPCz). Pierwsza część wyjaśnia pojęcie mitów o gwałcie, podczas gdy druga część zawiera analizę orzecznictwa ETPCz. Wreszcie ostatnia część sugeruje nowe podejście do spraw dotyczących przemocy seksualnej.

    The article is placed in the scope of research of classical studies, drama and theatre studies, and cultural studies. It is an attempt of social interpretation of Aristophanes’ Assemblywomen. Utopia, matriarchy, cultural identity of sex or stereotypes of women and men are the main questions raised in the article. An utopian project of matriarchy created in the old-Greek comedy is a basic object of interpretation. The author employs propositions of interpretation submitted by Angus M. Bowie, Gwendolyn Compton-Engle, Jerzy Łanowski, Kenneth M. De Luca, Kenneth S. Rothwell. Assemblywomen shows that a big idea which could create wealth of society can be easily metamorphosed into its opposition. It should be said that Aristophanes’ theatre achievements supplement modern social and cross-cultural research and are important and attractive texts for demanding readers/spectators of any time.

    Opis:
    This research report is an integral part of a larger research project focused on analyzing peer violence which is driven by gender stereotypes and prejudices (including sexual harassment) and which is experienced by female and male students of Polish junior high schools. The present qualitative research results are the effect of eight interviews and group discussions carried out in the first half of 2013. The interviewees and discussion participants were students of four different junior high schools in different towns and villages. The discussions focused on the following issues: girls' and boys' strategies of enduring, resisting or confronting gender-based violence and harassment; their reactions and coping mechanisms as victims and/or witnesses of gender-based violence or harassment; how adolescents perceived the roles of adults (that is teachers, parents, professionals) in the their experiences of violence.
    Raport z badań stanowi integralną część większego, aktualnie realizowanego projektu badawczego, którego problemem zasadniczym jest przemoc rówieśnicza motywowana stereotypami i uprzedzeniami związanymi z płcią (w tym przemoc o podtekście seksualnym), doświadczana przez uczniów i uczennice polskich gimnazjów. Prezentowane tu wyniki badań własnych o charakterze jakościowym są efektem przeprowadzonych w pierwszej połowie 2013 roku ośmiu wywiadów i dyskusji grupowych, w których uczestniczyli gimnazjaliści i gimnazjalistki z czterech różnych szkół i miejscowości. Problemem, na którym skoncentrowały się dyskusje były dziewczęce i chłopięce strategie przetrwania, oporu czy też przeciwstawiania się rówieśniczej przemocy ze względu na płeć; reakcje i sposoby radzenia sobie w roli ofiary i/lub świadka oraz postrzeganej przez adolescentów roli dorosłych (nauczycieli, rodziców, profesjonalistów) w sytuacji doświadczania sytuacji przemocowych.
