One of the tasks of preventive medicine as part of sexual prophylaxis is to improve sexual culture. Sexual culture is the entirety of sexual life of a society that origins from magic, religion and ideology in its aesthetic, emotional, family and social manifestations. It permeates art, affects the law, creates its own myths, models of love, ars amandi, norms and customs serving as social rituals. The moral transformations taking place in all countries of the Western cultural area are manifested first of all by the loosening of traditional norms regulating sexual intercourse. Increasingly, researchers sensitize adults to the growing popularity of the so-called orgiastic sex, in which the escalation of sexual stimuli (influenced by alcohol and/or drugs) is associated with the lack of ethical standards and principles, which causes the preference of various atypical (eg. group sex) and deviant forms of sexual activity (eg. sadistic sex). The aim of the research presented in this study was to get to know the sexual culture of Polish and Ukrainian students. Research problems have focused on the following questions: What does the sexual culture mean for the respondents? How many times have the respondents betrayed their partner? How often do the respondents talk to their partners about sexual needs?

The aim of the present article is a presentation of Wilhelm Reich’s works as one of the most important intellectual foundations of postmodernity. Particularly the propagated by Reich sexual revolution constitutes the kernel of contemporary cultural changes in the West. An important point of reference for Reich were the revelations of Bronisław Malinowski on the sexual life of savages. These convinced Reich that there is no necessary conflict between the satisfaction of sensual desires and cultural life, as Sigmund Freud proclaimed. In order to overcome the dualism between nature and culture in the western culture Reich deconstructed the ecclesiastic image of Jesus Christ. Instead of a savior Reich suggested that one should see in Jesus a man who proclaimed reconciliation between the forces of nature and the social life. In this way Reich tried to convince that in place of ascetic moral values the ones that promote sexual liberty and individual satisfaction should be placed. I will try to demonstrate that the ideas of Reich constitute a fundamental intellectual source of the contemporary western culture.

Social work in Poland and in the United States shares the values of human dignity and self-determination, but there are often value conflicts in terms of how various groups experience social roles and social expectations. This paper explores the use of multiple lenses to understand the past and current conditions for LGBT+ people in Poland. An international, university-level collaboration uses a framework of “invisible groups” to highlight the needs of those who are on the margins of society and whose human and individual rights are suppressed. The article reviews the results of a recently published on-line survey of LGBT+ populations and their views of their experiences in Polish society to illustrate their “invisibility” and the need for advocacy from the international social work community.

Rollo May’s phenomenology of love: a response to the twentieth-century cultural crisis: Love, belonging to the domain of affections, is considered in psychology along with motivation processes. The concept of will, which rarely appears in the discourse of empirical psychology, is also associated with motivation. The analysis of the phenomenon of love was one of the foundations of Sigmund Freud’s theory. In fact, Eros, entwined in the inseparable embrace of Thanatos, defined human personality along with him in psychoanalytic terms. The interaction of these two drives explained the process of directing the primary energy of life. Rollo May considered the concept of Freud as anti-voluntary, simultaneously formulating, in the spirit of existentialist thinking, an affirmative conception of will. The relationship of will and love, recognized by May, does not seem to be obvious from Freud’s psychology perspective. Identifying modern times as the times of alienation of love and domination of apathy, May proposed as a remedy for this crisis a specific dialectic of love and will. He distinguished the phenomenon of the will without love when the will inhibits love and love without a will when love undermines willpower. He perceived the proper relation of will and love as an important criterion for achieving maturity in all the basic aspects of life. In the article, I propose a critical reflection on the validity of May’s phenomenology and the placement of this theory in the context of the psychoanalytic tradition.

Group sexual harassment in the Arab World, so called taḥarruš, has reached an extraordinary extent in recent years. The problem remains unsolved despite various state actions and social initiatives. The text argues that the failure of the initiatives and information campaigns results from the fact that those actions and initiatives locate the causes outside the cultural and religious system, while it is the social structure itself, maintained by the universal nomos of religion and culture, that generates sexual frustrations which are in turn being vented in a manner combining elements of teasing and aggression. The article has been divided into two parts-the first contains a presentation of the problem, the second offers its analysis and explanation.

The paper undertakes the issues of epidemiology, conditions, and treatment of eating disorders in men, which are not widely recognised both in Polish and international research. The text is based on desk research analysis of research reports on eating disorders. Authors discuss the issue of eating disorders in the context of gender, indicating that the clinical picture of them (including the perception of one's own body, the ways and motives for striving for a perfect figure) is mainly related to the stereotypical roles and tasks that society and culture impose on men and women. The empirical material analysis allows us to assume that ED symptoms in men are more often (than in the case of women) related to (self) stigmatisation, diagnosis difficulty, coexistent dimorphic disorders, substance addictions, and more significant physical activity.ty.

Aim of research. The main goal of this paper is to analyse the phenomenon of prostitution among university students. The study presents the scale of this phenomenon and its causes. Methodology. The study was conducted among 1,877 university students. Respondents were interviewed through an online panel survey. Students spoke about their own experience in prostitution and shared thoughts about the approval for this phenomenon. Results and conclusions. Based on obtained answers, it was possible to identify conditioning for student prostitution, which encompasses biological, psychological, environmental, cultural, and economic factors. Moreover, students mentioned additional reasons for taking up prostitution: difficult financial situation during studies, above-average sex drive, laziness, and consumer mentality supported by the culture of promiscuity. It turned out that each of the mentioned factors may encourage students to become involved in prostitution. The analysis also drew attention to the lack of sexual education, conducive to risky sexual behaviours of young people. The research has shown that a large group of students exchange sex for money. Originality. The risky sexual behaviours of students are still an unexplored area of knowledge. Prostitution, due to its controversial nature, is treated as a taboo subject. The article proves that the phenomenon of student prostitution is common and requires a more in-depth analysis.

Negative sexuality as a passive social attitude Negative sexuality is a sexuality that isn’t a part of feeling of identity and self-acceptance. It is burdened with feelings of shame, guilt and threat. In Polish society there is an atmosphere of negative sexuality. There is a lack of tolerance towards diversity and sexual freedom, understood as free expression of the self. It is a situation which threatens the psychological well-being. The deprecation and normativization of human sexuality is ensnarled in relations of power which petrify the social status quo. That leads to totalitarian management of our sexuality and maintenance of that status due to psychological mechanisms of submitting to totalitarian powers. To show these processes I refer to such thinkers as Michel Foucault, Erich Fromm, Theodor Adorno, Wilhelm Reich and Karen Horney.Such reality is also a result of social processes which shaped it. Influential here were the processes related to power and culture. Negative templates have been present in our culture for long time, a fact which I exemplify by analyzing Polish culture through the Polish cinema of the People’s Republic period. Today, passive social attitudes have resulted in continued cultivating of these negative social norms.I show alternatives to the atmosphere of negative sexuality, describing the movement for positive sexuality and its benefits for psychological health of individuals and society. While I throw doubt on the possibility of a popularization of queer theory in Poland, I also show some universal strategies of resistance against those exercising power over human sexuality. I describe the phenomenon of bioresistance and freeing physicality drawing on the example of works by Krzysztof Pacewicz about the theories of Michel Foucault and Giorgio Agamben. In more practical terms, I analyze the present condition of sexual education anti-discrimination movements in Poland.In my work I want to show that a sexually positive life attitude, which means a life of acceptance of oneself and others and creation of a nonviolent space, enables universal self-acceptance and self-development. It is also a proactive social attitude because it requires intellectual and political involvement in regard to emerging reality. I believe that positive sexuality supported by positive sex-ed and social involvement is a very important element of resistance against power relations.  Negatywna seksualność jako bierna postawa społecznaNegatywna seksualność to seksualność, która nie składa się na poczucie tożsamości i samoakceptacji. Jest obarczona wstydem, poczuciem winy i zagrożenia. W polskim społeczeństwie panuje atmosfera negatywnej seksualności. Brak jest tolerancji dla różnorodności i wolności seksualnej rozumianej jako swobodna ekspresja siebie. Jest to sytuacja, która zagraża dobrostanowi psychicznemu. Deprecjonowanie i normatywizowanie ludzkiej seksualności jest uwikłane w relacje władzy, które petryfikują dany stan społeczny. Prowadzi to do totalitarnego zagospodarowania naszej seksualności i utrzymywania tego stanu dzięki psychicznym mechanizmom ulegania władzy totalitarnej. By pokazać te procesy, przywołuję myślicieli i myślicielki takie jak Michel Foucault, Erich Fromm, Theodor Adorno, Wilhelm Reich i Karen Horney.Taka rzeczywistość jest też rezultatem procesów społecznych, które ją ukształtowały. Miały na to wpływ procesy związane z władzą i kulturą. Negatywne wzorce są obecne w naszej kulturze od dawna. Polską kulturę analizuję przez pryzmat kina polskiego epoki PRL-u. Kultywowanie tych negatywnych norm społecznych to bierna postawa społeczna.Pokazuję alternatywy dla atmosfery negatywnej seksualności. Opisuję ruch pozytywnej seksualności i jego zalety dla zdrowia psychicznego jednostki i społeczeństwa.Poddaję w wątpliwość możliwość popularyzowania teorii queer w Polsce. Pokazuję pewne uniwersalne strategie oporu wobec władzy nad ludzką seksualnością. Opisuję zjawisko biooporu i uwalniania cielesności na przykładzie pracy Krzysztofa Pacewicza o teoriach Michela Foucaulta i Giorgio Agambena. Analizuję kondycję edukacji seksualnej i ruchów antydyskryminacyjnych w Polsce w czasie teraźniejszym.Moja praca ma pokazać, że sekspozytywna postawa życiowa, czyli akceptacja siebie i innych oraz tworzenie bezprzemocowej przestrzeni umożliwia powszechną samoakceptację i samorozwój. Jest jednocześnie aktywną postawą społeczną, ponieważ wymaga zaangażowania intelektualnego i politycznego we wpływaniu na zastaną rzeczywistość. Uważam, że pozytywna seksualność, wspierana pozytywną edukacją seksualną i zaangażowaniem społecznym, to bardzo istotny element oporu wobec relacji władzy.

The feminist interpretation of The Dictionary of the language of Jan Chryzostom Pasek consisted in searching for information on the status and position of women during the baroque period, and in tracing these lexicographic tools, which revealed the hierarchy of gender related values employed by its editors. The analysis focused on lexicographic articles describing persons of female gender in juxtaposition with their male counterparts. The Dictionary reflects all of the central features of patriarchal culture of Polish Sarmatia and the entailed asymmetry of gender roles. However, as the gender category has not been sufficiently accounted for in the lexicographic treatment of personal nouns, The Dictionary does not appreciate some of the cultural content.

Celem artykułu jest uwidocznienie przemocy doświadczanej w terenie przez badaczki i badaczy. Po pierwsze, przemoc bywa częścią pracy w terenie i jako taka może podlegać analizie. Po drugie, przemilczanie jej wzmacnia szkodliwe aspekty kultury akademickiej, w której problemy związane z przynależnością do grup mniejszościowych (w tym problemy kobiet w akademii) pozostają niewidoczne. W konsekwencji instytucje badawcze nie wypracowują mechanizmów wsparcia dla osób doświadczających przemocy, a badacze i badaczki nie są przygotowane na tego rodzaju trudności. Analizuję trzy przypadki molestowania seksualnego, którego doświadczyłam w terenie. Interpretuję je jako jedną ze strategii przyjmowanych przez uczestników badań podczas wywiadu dla zyskania władzy lub kontroli nad sytuacją.
The aim of the article is to make visible the violence experienced by researchers in the field. Firstly, violence is sometimes a part of the fieldwork and as such can be analyzed. Secondly, keeping quiet about it strengthens the harmful aspects of the academic culture, in which the problems related to belonging to minority groups (including the problems of women in academia) remain invisible. As a consequence, research institutions do not develop support mechanisms for people experiencing violence, and researchers are not prepared for this kind of difficulty. I analyze three incidents of sexual harassment that I myself have experienced in the field. I interpret them as one of the strategies adopted by research participants during an interview to gain power or control over the situation.

The comparison between the concept of sexual and reproductive rights and the idea of gender and the Christian culture of the body with its personalist anthropology reveals their essential differences. The concept of reproductive rights is permeated with individualism, where sex identity can be freely defined, and sexual activities of individuals-provided that they stay within the boundaries of law-are not subjected to any moral norms. The main point of the disagreement between the concept of reproductive rights and the Christian culture of the body concerns the meaning of human corporeality. For the former, human body is, in a certain way, an ‘outside’ of the self-determining subject. According to the latter view, human body participates in man’s dignity as his constituent dimension. Another difference revolves around the meaning of sexual activity. Efforts to force implementation of sexual and reproductive rights, along with gender informed law and culture, are dangerous to the fundamental group unit of society-the family-based on the marriage between man and woman.

Analiza wierszy zmierza do konkretyzacji swoistej strategii, jaką stosował poeta, wykorzystując zręczne koncepty, eufemizmy, dowcipną i pomysłową metaforykę seksualną czy wymyślne i subtelne określenia dla nazwania intymnych części ludzkiego ciała, niekiedy wzbogacając liryzmem miłosne zbliżenie. Celem tekstu jest przede wszystkim próba udowodnienia, że omawiane utwory uatrakcyjniały ówczesną kulturę erotyczną oraz w subtelny sposób prezentowały podniety i seksualne zdarzenia, stając się nie tylko czytelniczą rozrywką, ale przede wszystkim w wysublimowany sposób przybliżając tę delikatną i niezwykle ważną sferę ludzkiego życia.
The paper discusses sexual metaphors in the poetry of Polish Enlightenment. Such impressions were conveyed in the poems of Stanisław Trembecki, particularly. The analysis of the poems is aimed at defining the poet’s peculiar strategy, the use of clever concepts, euphemisms, witty and ingenious sexual metaphors or sophisticated and subtle definitions of intimate parts of human body, thus enriching intimacy with lyricism. This work attempts to prove that the discussed poems made the then erotic culture attractive and, in a subtle manner, presented stimuli and sexual occurrences not only to entertain a reader, but also to sublimely acquaint with this delicate and extremely important aspect of human life.

Artykuł podejmuje zagadnienie relacji wiary chrześcijańskiej i kultury w jej specyficznym obszarze, który wyznacza ludzka cielesność i seksualność. W teologicznej antropologii Jana Pawła II, której część stanowi tzw. teologia ciała, seksualność winna stanowić uprzywilejowane miejsce objawiania się tajemnicy życia Bożego. W tym ujęciu płciowość człowieka nabiera wyjątkowego sensu z uwagi na swą zdolność do wyrażania osobowego daru. Ta hermeneutyka daru zostaje skontrastowana ze współczesnym kulturowym statusem seksualności, której symptomatycznym wyrazem jest m.in. sztuka filmowa oraz jej społeczny odbiór. Przykład dwóch produkcji filmowych ujawnia naznaczenie tej sfery kultury złem o niespotykanej dotąd w historii skali. Postulowanym lekarstwem na tę sytuację jest promocja idealnego ujęcia miłości seksualnej oraz kształtowanie właściwego etosu odbiorcy kultury i sztuki – etosu widzenia.
The article presents the problem of the relationship between Christian faith and culture in its specific area which is marked out by human corporeality and sexuality. In view of theological anthropology of John Paul II, in what is called theology of the body, sexuality should be a privileged place of revealing the mystery of the life of God. In this perspective, human sexuality receives special meaning because of its ability to express a personal gift. The hermeneutics of the gift is in contrast with contemporary cultural status of sexuality, film art and its social reception being a symptomatic expression of it. The example of two films shows that this particular area of culture is marked by an evil in a scale unprecedented in the history. Postulated remedy for this situation is to promote the ideal image of sexual love and the formation of the proper ethos of the recipient of culture and art – the ethos of seeing.
