Opis:
The mystery of human being as a creature of God has been explored by many generations of philosophers and theologians. This article is an attempt to analyze of the some aspects of anthropological thought of famous contemporary Greek thinker – Christos Yannaras. The starting point is a depiction of the creation of human being as an act of God. His love constitutes man as an existential event of personal communion and relationship and a partaker in the freedom of love which is true life. The second part of the article relates to the issue of God’s image in human being. The Greek Fathers interpreted the image of God in humanity trying to avoid dualistic and monistic conceptual definitions. The patristic interpretation sums up the truth of the words “in the image” in the triadic character of personal energies (mind, reason, spirit) or in the “sovereignty” and “self-‑determination” which sum up the ontological differentiation of the person with regard to nature. The distinction between the sexes, namely the differentiation of man and woman, in relation to the image of God has been examined in the third part of the article. From the biblical narrative of man’s creation follows that man should realize life as communion with the other sex and it is the way for human life to be constituted in new personal hypostases and to have dominion over the earth (Gen 1:28). The distinction of sexes does not function in man as it functions in the animals where it is exclusively subordinate to the natural necessity of propagation. The distinction of the sexes has its foundation in human nature, but it is not identical with this nature, just as it is not to be identified even with the hypostasis of man. How to understand the reality of soul from the Christian point of view? Some possible answers for this question are presented in the four part of the article. There are many meanings of the word soul in the Bible and in Christian literature. The soul it is often identified in the Old Testament with the manifestation of life on earth, while in the New Testament it appears also as a bearer of eternal life. Today what we call soul is a dynamically effected event, a complex of ceaselessly effected functions which reveal and express the living existence of man. For these functions we use various names: we speak of reason, imagination, judgment, creativity, ability to love, etc. The final part of the article shows relations between soul and body. Yannaras underlines that soul and body do not determine the mode by which the human person is, but are determined and marked as differentiations of the result of natural energy, that is of the universal-ecstatic reference of the bicomposite essence or nature. Both the body and the soul are energies of human nature. What each specific man is, this inmost I which constitutes him as an existential event, is identified neither with the body nor the soul. The distinction between soul and body refers to the semantic differentiation of the result of natural energy and does not refer to the mode by which humanity is as nature and person.

Bernard Shaw’s Plays Pleasant are an example of realization of convention of realistic social dramaturgy as well as a proof of a serious reflection on condition and construction of the institution of marriage and the family of Victorian era. You Never Can Tell which is an object of analyses in this article raises the question of dramatization of behaviours of individuals, masks worn by individuals because of social situations, a strategy of seduction (social life as drama/game). The institution of marriage functions as an object of critique, a tool in the games between sexes and as an object of affirmation. The “duel of sexes” is the key problem of comedy. Bernard Shaw presents the mechanism of arousing of desire as well as demonstrating that love is a form of game and desire is the basic experience in the construction of human identity.

The author describes the results of empirical research (in the years 2005-2009) into the process of constructing the meaning ofWomen’s Day in various generational groups of men and women. The ‘communist contamination’ of the 8th of March holiday turns out to be particularly important in terms of meaning. The groups studied have made, in this context, a new ‘localisation’ of the holiday in the sphere of their own experiences. Women’s Day appears as a phenomenon entangled in the discourses of adoration and emancipation, as well as in the settling of accounts with the Polish People’s Republic and feminism.

Zagadnienie ordynacji kobiet przenika do wielu Kościołów pentekostalnych (zielonoświątkowych).
An issue of women’s ordination penetrates also various Pentecostal churches. Although at the beginning of that religious group a number of communities allowed women to occupy many leadership posts, for decades it has been the problem that divides Pentecostals among themselves. The present article describes the state of debate on ordination of women to the Christian ministry in Pentecostal churches established in Poland after 1989. Those communities demonstrate significant openness towards entrusting ministerial offices to women, finding theological justification for it in the New Testament.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to show in what way the notions of normativity of silhouette, its most desirable shape, proportion and mass, are determined by discourse connected with sex. The starting point of these considerations are the results of research within the sociology of the body. The research was carried out on a group of 60 individuals with the method of in-depth interview, whose theme concentrated on perception of normativity of silhouettes of people with different BMIs. The aim of the interview was to select and interpret the main topics associated by individuals with the issues of overweight and underweight and their cultural meanings. The analysis shows that cultural meanings of opposite categories “slim” - “obese” are significantly connected with gender: the assessment of who is slim and who is obese depends not only on the sexes of the observing and observed individuals, but is also conditioned by a number of assumptions on the perception of roles connected with sex, socially perceived ideals of a beautiful and attractive body, and also stereotypes of femininity and masculinity. Key words: obesity, slimness, sociology of body, stereotypes of sexes.

Opis:
While analysing the legislative output of the interwar Republic of Poland, most Polish researchers highlight the significant achievements of the so-called Codification Commission established in 1919, whose twenty years of efforts resulted in the drafting of a host of important codes and other acts of high legislative value. This output, however, could only be put to a very short-lived use in the 1930s. Its full potential was not unleashed until after the Second World War, in a completely changed political reality. On a day-to-day basis, the Polish state of the interwar period faced a number of issues that it either desired to overcome or was forced to do so. One of them was the crippled legal status of women, particularly jarring in the reality of the interwar times. Although the reborn Polish statehood, true to lofty democratic ideals, immediately took it upon itself to change the clearly underprivileged legal status of women, the final effect, that is the legislation in force as at the outbreak of the Second World War, looks meagre. The modern codification had not been adopted, the legal particularism in the scope of civil law had been maintained, the anachronistic codification of the preceding century upheld – the ideals of equal rights for women were made a very much imperfect reality. In this article, we attempt to trace the history of how this came to be by examining difficulties in introducing the principle of equality of women’s rights. The example we have chosen serves to shed light on the mundane efforts to overcome the mounting problems with realizing ideas of modernization upon the underlying legal foundations of a country which, at first sight, seems utterly ill-prepared to tackle this task properly.

Ta postawa prowadzi protagonistki Bachmann do utraty tożsamości i autodestrukcji.
The authors of this article analyse female characters in the prose of Ingeborg Bachmann. Her series of novels Todesarten – which includes Malina (1971) and Der Fall Franza (1979) – and a series of short stories Simultan (1972) are the subjects of the analysis. The authors prove that in the prose of the Austrian writer there appearwomen who are tyrannised by men and accept the role of a victim. Such an attitude leads Bachmann’s protagonists to both the loss of identity and self-destruction.

The Penal Code presently in force provides for a “person living in actual co-habitation” and it stipulates in Article 115 § 11 the definition of “the person next of kin”. According to the invoked provision “the person next of kin shall be a spouse, ascendant, descendant, brother or sister, a relative in the same line or degree, a person being an adopted relation as well as his spouse, and also a person living in actual co-habitation.” Numerous differences and doubts arise in the doctrine and judicature when one attempts to decode the term “a person living in actual co-habitation” as it has not been strictly defined by the legislator. The results of its interpretation by way of linguistic, systematic and functional directives lead to the conclusion that the term contained in Article 115 § 11 of the Penal Code “a person living in actual co-habitation” indicates a person living with another person in such a factual relationship, where there are between them simultaneously spiritual, physical and economic bonds. It is possible to establish the existence of a relation of “living in actual co-habitation” also when the lack of one of such bonds is objectively justified. The difference of the sexes of persons living in such co-habitation is not a requisite condition to establish that they actually live in co-habitation within the meaning of Article 115 § 11 of the Penal Code.

The Catholic vision of marriage

Opis:
This paper presents the personalist vision of marriage referring mostly to Christian teaching on marriage and family. The post-modern society highlights a very critical assessment of the institution of marriage, supporting an individual rather than marital life. In such a situation the Catholic teaching on marriage, and ethos of marriage, is more and more challenged even by Christians, especially in the area of moral decision and life practice. In response to post-modern challenges, Christian personalism refers to the truth about the vocation of man to fulfil their humanity in corporality-determined sexuality. It is not only about anatomic differences but about a different manner of being man in many spheres. Christian reflection, unchangeable as to the assessment of the character of the relationship between a man and a woman, first and foremost refers to a thesis about both the distinctness and complementarity of sexes, embedded in the very human nature. Christian teaching identifies marital love only with the form of the commitment of the person who loves, in their own dynamics, to the good of the person loved. Complete love is directed towards a physical, mental and spiritual union with the loved person and develops from sensuality, through the mental and cultural sphere, to the spiritual domain. A Catholic apprehension of marriage does not question its natural character but defends it, and at the same time shows a radical change that takes place between a man and a woman through the sacramental virtue. Marriage is a deep union and covenant based on love rooted in God remaining the source of Love.

Cognitive functions, such as learning and memory, are instrumental in improving the patient’s quality of life. Commonly used antipsychotic drugs are also useful in depression treatment, and have a positive effect on spatial memory dysfunction caused by schizophrenia. Olanzapine (OLA) and aripiprazole (ARI) are known to have substantially different pharmacokinetics depending on sex, thus their therapeutic efficacy and dose of treatment may be different for males and females. The aim of the study was to assess whether dysfunction of spatial memory (Morris Water Maze - MWM) and locomotor activity (LA) improve in prenatally stressed rats (animal model of schizophrenia (AMS)) by OLA and ARI. OLA (0.5 mg/kg ip) and ARI (1.5 mg/kg ip) were administered to female Wistar rats (non-stressed control group (NSCG) and PSG). Single administration of ARI and OLA in the NSCG yielded no differences in spatial memory compared to the control group (C-NSCG), while OLA improved memory after 7 days of treatment compared to the C-NSCG. In the prenatally stressed group (PSG), an impairment of spatial memory by the drug was observed (vs. C-NSCG) after long-term treatment. Only chronic administration of ARI and OLA (PSG) improved spatial memory in female rats. Conclusion: Stress causes memory dysfunction in female rats. Chronic administration of ARI and OLA reverses this effect which can probably be associated with the mechanism of action of the drugs used (ARI/OLA). ARI acts as an agonist or antagonist mainly on D2 and 5-HT2A receptors, while OLA induces antagonist effects for these receptors.

There is a good chance that “each critic becomes a Pygmalion” (as Leo Curran put it) when they bring the work of art to life in their narcissistic (and almost amorous) attention, unfolding its meaning so that they should be able to write their own interpretation. The starting point of the present text is the perfection of sculptural forms, and the author discusses “traditional” aesthetic concepts: the beautiful and the sublime along with the difference and interplay of the two qualities, bearing in mind their variations and relations. The framework is provided by the occurrence of these two in the discourses on the self and taste in the eighteenth-century while the focus is on subjective criticism concerning the beautiful versus the sublime in the artistic and sensual experience of statues. Within the given framework, the author is planning to force Edmund Burke, stiffened by the experience of the sublime, and Winckelmann, softened by the sight of the Greek statues, into a dialogue on individual taste.
