    Background: Human milk, in addition to nutrients, contains many biologically active substances including immunoglobulins, growth factors, cytokines, and a diverse population of somatic cells. Breast milk involves no risk of allergy, contains antibodies, and contains factors such as epidermal growth factor (EGF) and erythropoietin, which may promote the growth and repair of skin cells. The discovery of stem cells and the HAMLET complex in breast milk has led to increased interest in human milk as a natural medicine. Aim of the study: The aim of the study was to identify the effect of topical application of breast milk on the separation time of the umbilical cord stump in newborns. Case report: This paper presents the case of a patient who decided to treat her child’s umbilical cord stump with colostrum/breast milk because her two older children had experienced long umbilical stump separation times. As a result of this treatment, separation of the stump occurred 90 hours after labor. There were no abnormalities in the construction of the navel, complications, or separation disorders of the umbilical cord stump. Conclusions: This research demonstrates that colostrum/mother’s milk was used as an easy, cheap, effective, and natural method of umbilical cord care.

    In this paper, the robust D-stability problem for discrete uncertain multiple time-delay systems is examined on the basis of their such reduced-order models (the slow and fast subsystems), which are obtained by time-scale separation method. Under the condition that the slow and fast subsystems of the nominal system are both -D(a,r)-stable, a D-stability criterion for the slow and fast subsystem of the original uncertain system is first derived. A delay-dependent criterion in terms of spectral radius is then proposed to guarantee the robust D-stability of the original uncertain system subject to structured perturbations. Moreover, the criterion for the robust asymptotic stability of the system subject to structured perturbations can be obtained from the proposed robust D-stability criterion. A numerical example is provided to illustrate our main results.

    This paper is addressed to the membrane air separation i.e. the gas mixture of quite similar gases in many respects, except one: oxygen is paramagnetic whereas nitrogen is diamagnetic. This fact forms the basis for their separation. The numerical studies and theoretical predictions concerning the air membrane separation in the presence of a magnetic field are discussed. Some experimental data concerning the „magnetic membranes” i.e. ethylcellulose membranes with neodymium powder, are also presented.

    In recent years global climate change has been the focus of much scientific research as well as a focal point in the media. A recent period of significant increases in global temperatures has caused much concern. This period was followed by a relative slowdown, which in turn has created confusion. There are two major reasons for global temperatures variations, one of which is oscillations of total solar activity in time. Another reason is atmospheric pollutants causing greenhouse effects. Obviously, solar activities cannot be controlled, but relevant pollutants can. Since these two reasons are independent components of global temperature variations, they must be separated in order to adequately study global climate changes. Solar irradiation transferred to Earth is proportional to sunspot numbers, which have been recorded for centuries. The purpose of this paper is to separate this solar component from long-term temperature data, thus leaving for examination the component created by human activities. This separation of components and examination thereof can be performed at numerous locations over Earth, that is, the time component and rates of its increases can be mapped over the globe. This paper smooths these images to display the different rates of temperature increases over different global regions, which allows for a comparison of different regional efforts to fight climate changes. In some regions, negative rates were occurring as of recent years, but other regions those rates are becoming alarmingly high. The average rate of temperature increase due to human influence over the planet is remaining positive. The regional comparisons offer a great opportunity for assessing different methods of control of global climate changes.

    Solitude is, to some measure, in the centre of Emmanuel Levinas’s philosophy. Indeed, in each of the three periods of his philosophical path, solitude adopts a different shape. In the first period, Levinas shows us hypostasis as the solitude of the monad, tragically enclosed within itself. In the second period he sketches before our eyes the image of solitude as a transcendental condition of the occurrence of encounter with the Other. Whereas in the third period, he asserts the solitude of the subject who is infinitely responsible for Others. Admittedly, the term “solitude” (la solitude) appears only in the first period of his philosophical quest. In the second period, he designates solitude by the terms “separation” (la séparation), while in the third period he calls it “selfness” (le Soi). Although Levinas uses those three distinct terms, which might suggest completely different realities, they converge precisely in what constitutes the substantial richness of the experience of solitude.
