Opis:: Jowita Mormul What a beautiful catastrophe Tragic human death is nowadays commonplace in the news media, on the Internet, advertising and in the arts. Art-pieces on post-mortal, sepulchral and sacral subjects and war include the elements of death in creative discourse. Massively reproduced photography and film reproduce images related to death and violence, which are perceived both in the context of information and art. Art-pieces in galleries and different collections contribute to the fact that death begins to fall under market law and functions as commodities. Based on selected phenomena in art, history and media communication, Mormul analyzes the mechanisms that cause the popularity of death related themes and the associated sensation to be the inspiration for artists.

Niema poetyka cyrku w powieści Tomasza Manna Wyznania hochsztaplera Feliksa Krulla Rozdział poświęcony cyrkowi w powieści Tomasza Manna Wyznania hochsztaplera Feliksa Krulla stanowi punkt wyjścia do rozważań na temat powinowactwa między sztuką cyrkową i hochsztaplerstwem. Artystyczne pokazy, podczas których wykonawcy podejmują śmiertelne ryzyko, skłaniają Feliksa Krulla do głębokich antropologicznych i estetycznych rozważań: Czy artyści cyrkowi, którzy igrają ze śmiercią i swoje ciała doprowadzają do granic fizycznych możliwości, oraz klowni rzucający wyzwanie prawom i normom są jeszcze ludźmi? Czy cyrkowe wrażenia i sadystyczną ciekawość publiczności można odpowiednio opisać za pomocą kategorii estetycznych? Typowy dla pokazów cyrkowych ekstremalny charakter lekceważenia konwencji ma wiele wspólnego z hochsztaplerstwem. Co różni obydwa zjawiska? Am Beispiel des Zirkuskapitels in Thomas Manns Roman Die Bekenntnisse des Hochstaplers Felix Krull untersucht der Beitrag die Affinität von Zirkus und Hochstapelei. Angesichts des tödlichen Risikos der artistischen Darbietungen gerät Felix Krull in tiefsinnige anthropologische und ästhetische Grübeleien: sind Artisten, die so bereitwillig ihr Leben aufs Spiel setzen, die ihrem Körper das Äußerste abverlangen, die mit clowneskem Übermut den Gesetzen der Norm trotzen, überhaupt Menschen? Sind die Sensationen des Zirkus und die sadistische Schaulust des Publikums noch mit den Begriffen der Ästhetik angemessen zu fassen? In seiner Missachtung der Konvention hat der Extremismus der zirzensischen Darbietung eine große Affinität zur eigenen Hochstapelei. Worin unterscheiden sie sich?
My contribution analyses the affinity for the circus and confidence men based on the chapter in Mann’s novel about visiting a circus. Faced with the mortal risks of the acrobatic performances, Felix Krull falls into deep reflection on anthropology and aesthetics: Are artists, who risk their lives, who demand extreme effort from their bodies, who defy the rules of reason and convention, really normal human beings? Can the sensational performances of the Circus and the morbid feelings of the spectators be conceived of within the terminology of aesthetics? Challenging conventions is the great affinity of circensic art and fraud—but where do the differences lie?
Am Beispiel des Zirkuskapitels in Thomas Manns Roman Die Bekenntnisse des Hochstaplers Felix Krull untersucht der Beitrag die Affinität von Zirkus und Hochstapelei. Angesichts des tödlichen Risikos der artistischen Darbietungen gerät Felix Krull in tiefsinnige anthropologische und ästhetische Grübeleien: sind Artisten, die so bereitwillig ihr Leben aufs Spiel setzen, die ihrem Körper das Äußerste abverlangen, die mit clowneskem Übermut den Gesetzen der Norm trotzen, überhaupt Menschen?
