    The article presents the phenomena of polysemy and homonymy within the field of nominations defining love, eroticism, sex and narcotics in the modern Russian jargon. Although polysemous nominations appear in all the semantic groups presented in the article, polysemy is not a representative phenomenon in the modern Russian jargon. Homonymy is illustrated only by one pair of homonyms within the narcotic nominations.

    Semantic Interpretation of Phraseological Units in Ukrainian-Polish Electronic Phraseological DictionaryWhen compiling bi- and multilingual phraseological lexicons it is necessary to address such theoretical issues as the formulation linguistically grounded principles of selection of phraseological units and their translation, semantic interpretation based on differentiation of pictures of the world of the linguistic systems, comprehensive combination of elements of the structure and presentation of various linguistic ambiguities, rational form of dictionary entries and building of user-friendly interface in electronic dictionary systems, etc. The article addresses the principles of Ukrainian-Polish electronic phraseological dictionary, which is one of the first attempts of complex and systematic presentation of Ukrainian and Polish phraseology. The main attention is paid to the lexicographic representation of phraseological units, their semantic characterization and selection problem idiomatic equivalents.

    Opis:
    The purpose of the article is to describe semantic and syntactic characteristics of one of many linguistic units containing the form stracić (to lose). Dictionaries of contemporary Polish language consider stracić as a one, polysemous unit. Nevertheless, there are at least several units which are represented by the form of stracić, among others, [ktoś] stracił [kogoś] z oczu, [ktoś] stracił głowę, [ktoś] stracił panowanie nad sobą, as well as [coś] straciło [coś] dla [kogoś], which is very similar to the analyzed unit. The unit, which is the subject matter of the article is [ktoś] stracił [kogoś/coś]. The author, by analysis syntactic and semantic characteristics of the unit, attempts to define its selectional restrictions and tries to answer the question on what this unit might mean. As a result, a representation of its semantic content is presented.

    The discusses semantic and functional characteristics of Ukrainian mathematical terms, compared to Polish terminology. The analysis is based on the structure of mathematical terms, their provenance, the mono- or polysemantics of terms and their scope. Attention is drawn to the definition of terms, terminological doublets, eponyms and non-verbal meanings of mathematical terms.
    W artykule przedstawiono semantyczno-funkcjonalną charakterystykę ukraińskich terminów matematycznych oraz porównano je z terminami polskimi. Autor dokonał analizy struktury, pochodzenia, mono- i polisemantyki terminów matematycznych, jak również zakresu ich użycia. W tekście zwrócono również uwagę na definicję terminu, dublety, terminy-eponimy, jak również na niewerbalne sposoby wyrażania terminów matematycznych.

    W zaproponowanym artykule rozpatrywany jest koncept prawda / правда w języku polskim i ukraińskim, a także jego semantyczno-konotacyjne cechy charakterystyczne. Dominantą semantyczną konceptu prawda / правда jest „sprawiedliwość” jako odpowiedniość do zasad prawnych i moralnych; składnikami jego struktury są komponenty ‘odpowiedniość do obiektywnej rzeczywistości’, ‘prawdziwość’, ‘autentyczność’, ‘istota prawdy’, ‘porządek, który opiera się na sprawiedliwości”, a jego cechami pojęciowymi są cechy moralne i wartości, na podstawie których formuje się ideał moralny, cechy normatywne i wartości, związane z wyobrażeniami o tym, co jest autentyczne w życiu człowieka lub społeczeństwa; prawna (prawnicza) strona konceptu правда jest związana z prawami i obowiązkami, natomiast poznawcza jest powiązana z wyobrażeniami człowieka o odpowiedniości do rzeczywistości. Koncept prawda / правда jest wielofunkcyjny i wyznacza podstawowy kierunek kultury narodowej, a dokładnie pragnienie wyższych ideałów dobra i sprawiedliwości, które są kamieniem węgielnym we wszystkich sferach życia człowieka i społeczeństwa.
    The proposed article discusses the concept of prawda / правда (truth) in the Polish and Ukrainian languages and its semantic and connotative characteristics. The semantic dominant of the concept of prawda / правда is “justice” as correspondence to legal and moral principles; its structure is composed of ‘correspondence to the objective reality’, ‘genuineness’, ‘authenticity’, ‘essence of truth’, ‘order based on justice’, and its conceptual characteristics are the moral characteristics and values underlying the moral ideal, the normative characteristics and values concerned with the representations of what is authentic in the life of a human being or a society; the legal aspect of the concept of правда is associated with rights and obligations, while the cognitive aspect is related to a human being’s representations of correspondence to reality. The concept of prawda / правда is multifunctional and sets the main direction for the national culture or, to be more specific, the desire of higher ideals of good and justice, which are the foundation stone in all spheres of the life of a human being and a society.

    A Classification of Ukrainian Surnames Derived from the Proper Names of Persons on the Basis of AppearanceThis investigation focuses on the modern Ukrainian surnames derived from a person’s appearance. The author analyzed different approaches to the systematization of such surnames that were applied in onomastic research, finding some differences in these classifications. For example, there is some controversy as to the scope (content) of this group. For example, some investigators do not include surnames derived from proper names of persons on the basis of their strength, health, clothing and so on as a part of this group surnames. On the other hand, some other researchers believe that it is necessary. Doubts have also been expressed as to the appropriacy of including some surnames which are derived from the names that described the gait of the person or their gender.Developing our approach to the classification of surnames derived from the proper names of persons on the basis of appearance, the author used the achievements of gabitology that uses characteristics of human appearance for the identification of the person. Fixed surnames were distributed according to the semantics of lexemes in the following subgroups: general physical (they can characterize the appearance of the person in general), anatomical (they can characterize body type, organs of the human body) and functional (characteristics of human appearance that are seen in mo- tion). Surnames were also differentiated within each subgroup. For example, the author identified the surnames derived from the proper names whose meaning are connected with the features of human growth, body type (skinny build, slim build, chunky, fat), unusual shape, size, and color of organs of the human body. The important thing to note is that the namegivers focused on those characteristics of human appearance that were original, relatively constant, and helped to identify a person.
