Opis:
Sport activities usually require a high efficiency of visual information processing. Therefore, it seems justified to determine the efficiency of visual sensorimotor processes in sports requiring a variety of perception competencies. The aim of this study was to assess the differentiation of sensorimotor processes in terms of simple and choice reaction time, and visual stimulus discrimination in various athletes and untrained persons. The study involved 119 men, of which 95 were athletes: football players (n = 24), volleyball players (n = 22), boxers (n = 26), and rowers (n = 23). The efficiency of sensorimotor processes was evaluated with the Vienna Test System (Schuhfried, Austria). The evaluations included simple reaction time (SRT), choice reaction time (CRT), and visual stimulus discrimination. Analysis of the results showed that volleyball and football players had shorter (p < 0.01) reaction times compared to non-athletes and representatives of the other sports. We found significant differences (p < 0.01) between athletes and non-athletes in visual stimulus discrimination. In addition, boxers showed fewer correct reactions than volleyball players, and shorter times of stimulus detection than in volleyball and soccer players.

Opis:
Background: It has been controversial in the face recognition literaturę whether face-sensitive N170 is affected by selective attention. Attention was manipulated according to Lavie’s perceptual load theory, examining the effect of selective attention on the processing of faces and human bodies. Faces and human bodies were presented either intact or manipulated. Material/Methods: 18 Students (9Males) from Sohag University, aged between 19 and 22 years (M = 19.38, SD = 0.48) contributed data in this study. All participants were right handed, and had normal or corrected-to-normal visual acuity. Participants were instructed to detect specific letter strings „X or N” among different (i.e., High load), or identical (Low load) letters. Letters were superimposed on different distractors. Stimuli were presented intact (Exp.1), or manipulated (Exp.2-4), by removing certain features or parts in the face and body respectively. ERP technique was used and prominent N170 and LNC were measured. Results: It was found that there is no effect of selective attention on the face sensitive N170. It seems that cropped face N170 is not affected by selective attention. However, the N170 of faces and human bodies are not affected by selective attention. The LNC findings showed that this component is affected by selective attention with enhanced negativity under low load Conditions compared to high load conditions. Conclusions: The findings of the current study showed that either cropped faces and human bodies does not reveal sensitivity on the N170 ERP component of manipulated faces and bodies.

Opis:
This study presents the investigation the efficiency of the volitional strategies in the group of depressive person while making interpersonal decision. The theoretical basis of this study is Kuhl’s Depression Theory. According to Kuhl’s theory an important determinants of depression are the persevering intentional states which can not be eliminated and postponed: the so called degenerated intentions. The degenerated intention overloads the mental resource of working memory. As a result, enactment of a new or realistic intentions may be impaired because of unavailability of the memory capacity needed for their execution. It leads to deficits in motivational and executive levels. This research was done to test an efficiency of the selected volitional strategies (emotional control, selective attention, prasimony of information processing) in experimental conditions with the well described intention in the depressive and health group of subjects (in Kuhl’s study the degenerated intention was inducted by experimental conditions). This study was inspired by an idea of Maria Lewicka. The research results show the decreased efficiency of volitional strategies in the group of depressive subjects in compare to the healthy subjects, independency of the search conditions.

Opis:
This article is a voice in discussion related to the role of mass media in educating and upbringing children in pre-school age. Human being in current times is best described as homo mediorum, who more or less depends from digital media. Those behaviours and other media related addictions are being transmitted to children nearly from the very first day of their lives. What are the consequences of that? Unfortunately, most of the consequence are negative. Research shows there are difficulties with language acquisition, selective attention, correct development of cognitive functions and it may even lower the intelligence level. Summarising it is clear that electronic media do not support education. What about upbringing? Mass media generate difficulties in interpersonal relations, lead to aggression, lack of empathy and addictions. Conclusion? It is impossible to withdraw mass media from children lives but let us try to decrease their influence in the lives of the youngest children.

Opis:
In this paper the Sigma-if artificial neural network model is considered, which is a generalization of an MLP network with sigmoidal neurons. It was found to be a potentially universal tool for automatic creation of distributed classification and selective attention systems. To overcome the high nonlinearity of the aggregation function of Sigma-if neurons, the training process of the Sigma-if network combines an error backpropagation algorithm with the self-consistency paradigm widely used in physics. But for the same reason, the classical backpropagation delta rule for the MLP network cannot be used. The general equation for the backpropagation generalized delta rule for the Sigma-if neural network is derived and a selection of experimental results that confirm its usefulness are presented.

Opis:
Background: Children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) have a wide range of neuropsychological deficits including attention, memory, and executive functioning. The study was targeted to use a neuropsychological approach in remediating attention and fine motor training or the incoordination of children with ADHD- Inattentive type (IA). Material/Methods: A total of 20 primary school children fulfilling the criteria of ADHD- IA type were selected from different schools in Mysuru, India. Neuropsychological deficits were assessed using appropriate tools. Children in the experimental group were given attention and fine motor training for 3 months. A post test was conducted after 3 months training. The maintenance effect of therapy was studied until the completion of 1 year. Results: Results revealed that attention fine motor training was effective in improving focused and selective attention, working memory, new learning ability, visual fluency and fine motor training incoordination. Conclusions: It can be concluded that a neuropsychological rehabilitation is effective in remediating the deficits faced by children with ADHD-IA.

Opis:
W artykule dokonano przeglądu badań nad związkiem percepcji bodźców zagrażających i zaburzeń lękowych.
The article has reviewed the research done on the relationship between anxiety and perception of threatening stimuli. The results of experimental studies are inconsistent: studies based on and inspired by the psychoanalytic theory suggest that anxiety disorders are revealed in form of changes such as higher perception of stimuli, selective ignorance of threatening stimuli, etc. Other research suggests that anxiety disorders appear simultaneously with selective sensitivity to threatening stimuli. The author of this article has attempted to find the common elements between the contrasting research results.
