    In the paper, the notion of a generalized convexity was defined and studied from the view-point of the selection and approximation theory of set-valued maps. We study the simultaneous existence of continuous relative selections and graph-approximations of lower semicontinuous and upper semicontinuous set-valued maps with α-convex values having nonempty intersection.

    Let (X,T) be a paracompact space, Y a complete metric space, $F:X → 2^Y$ a lower semicontinuous multifunction with nonempty closed values. We prove that if $T^+$ is a (stronger than T) topology on X satisfying a compatibility property, then F admits a $T^+$-continuous selection. If Y is separable, then there exists a sequence $(f_n)$ of $T^+$-continuous selections such that $F(x)=\overline{{f_n(x);n ≥ 1}}$ for all x ∈ X. Given a Banach space E, the above result is then used to construct directionally continuous selections on arbitrary subsets of ℝ × E.

    We prove the existence of Carathéodory selections and representations of a closed convex valued, lower Carathéodory multifunction from a set A in $A(ℰ ⊗ ℬ(X))$ into a separable Banach space Y, where ℰ is a sub-σ-field of the Borel σ-field ℬ(E) of a Polish space E, X is a Polish space and A is the Suslin operation. As applications we obtain random versions of results on extensions of continuous functions and fixed points of multifunctions. Such results are useful in the study of random differential equations and inclusions and in mathematical economics.
      As a key tool we prove that if A is an analytic subset of E × X and if ${U_n : n ∈ w}$ is a sequence of Borel sets in A such that $A=∪_n U_n$ and the section $U_n(e)$ is open in A(e), e ∈ E, n ∈ w, then there exist Borel functions $p_n : A → [0,1]$, n ∈ w, such that for every e ∈ E, ${p_n(e,·) : n ∈ w}$ is a locally Lipschitz partition of unity subordinate to ${U_n(e) : n ∈ w}$.

    This text should be perceived as an review article in which the content of the monograph Social Inequalities in Access to Education… by Richard Borowicz allows for the presentation of his heritage which is leftfor the next generation of sociologists and educators. The text therefore exposes the approach to the profession of sociologist which was characteristic of Ryszard Borowicz, his scientific workshop and inspirations that we may draw from in relation to how to analyze the surrounding reality, how to communicate what we have determined, how to make methodological choices and, within them, choose the methods. At the same time, the text presents the continuity of the research into sociology of education in Poland, preserved also thanks to the research by the Author of the book discussed here. What is worth emphasizing is the diagnosis and assessment of the Polish transformation at the beginning of the twenty-first century in the context of young people’s educational fates (and their determinants), which is dominant in the monograph. The essence of Ryszard Borowicz’s research interests is the study on school selections. Therefore, the text contains an attempt at analyzing the findings in the book Social Inequality… relating to the mechanisms of selection in the educational system, including the analysis of the relevance of specific content, links with the findings by other researchers, and most of all, with the Author himself – his beliefs, motivations, and attitudes, which distinguished him in the scientific community.

    We consider a class of singularly perturbed systems of semilinear parabolic differential inclusions in infinite dimensional spaces. For such a class we prove a Tikhonov-type theorem for a suitably defined subset of the set of all solutions for ε ≥ 0, where ε is the perturbation parameter. Specifically, assuming the existence of a Lipschitz selector of the involved multivalued maps we can define a nonempty subset $Z_L(ε)$ of the solution set of the singularly perturbed system. This subset is the set of the Hölder continuous solutions defined in [0,d], d > 0 with prescribed exponent and constant L. We show that $Z_L(ε)$ is uppersemicontinuous at ε = 0 in the C[0,d]×C[δ,d] topology for any δ ∈ (0,d].

    Celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na dwa pytania dotyczące nierówności na wyższym szczeblu edukacji. Pierwsze dotyczy wpływu pochodzenia społecznego na wybór kierunku studiów, drugie - selekcji między kierunkami ze względu na płeć. Dotychczasowe badania wykazały, że istnieje wyraźny związek między pochodzeniem społecznym a wyborem kierunku studiów. Osoby mające lepiej wykształconych rodziców częściej studiują na kierunkach prestiżowych, takich jak prawo czy medycyna. Wskazuje się również, że kobiety chętniej wybierają kierunki humanistyczne i społeczne, a mężczyźni kierunki techniczne. Czy w sytuacji szybkiego wzrostu liczby studentów, obserwowanego w Polsce od lat dziewięćdziesiątych XX w., te prawidłowości będą się utrzymywały? Wyniki sondażu przeprowadzonego na trzech państwowych uczelniach w Białymstoku w 2008 r. pokazują, że na wybory studentów nadal wpływają zarówno pochodzenie społeczne, jak i płeć. Zaobserwowano również związek między wyborem kierunku studiów a generalną skłonnością do podejmowania ryzyka. Autorka interpretuje wyniki tych badań w kategoriach teorii konfliktowej (monopolizacji), teorii kapitału kulturowego i teorii racjonalnego wyboru.
    The paper aims to answer two questions concerning inequalities at the tertiary level of education. Firstly, the impact of social background on the choices of fields studies, and, secondly, the gender-driven selection of fields of study. Research conducted to date has shown a visible relationship between one’s social background and the selection of academic disciplines studied. Individuals who have better-educated parents are more likely to study prestigious fields such as law or medicine. It has also been claimed that women are more likely to choose studies in humanities and social Sciences whereas men favour technical studies. Will these trends continue to exist given the rapid increase in the number of tertiary-level students in Poland sińce 1990s? The results of a survey conducted in three public universities in Białystok in 2008 have shown that students’ choices are driven by both their social background and gender. Also, a relationship has been identified between the choices of fields of study and the overall propensity to take risks. The author interprets the results of the survey building on the theory of cultural Capital, theory of monopolisation and rational choice.

    By introducing the intersection convolution of relations, we prove a natural generalization of an extension theorem of B. Rodrí guez-Salinas and L. Bou on linear selections which is already a substantial generalization of the classical Hahn-Banach theorems. In particular, we give a simple neccesary and sufficient condition in terms of the intersection convolution of a homogeneous relation and its partial linear selections in order that every partial linear selection of this relation can have an extension to a total linear selection.

    Let $F:[a,b] × ℝ^n × ℝ^n → 2^{ℝ^n}$ be a multifunction with possibly non-convex and unbounded values. The main result of this paper (Theorem 1) asserts that, given the multivalued boundary value problem ($P_F$)    {u'' ∈ F(t,u,u'), u(a) = u(b) = ϑ_{ℝ^n}, if an appropriate restriction of the multifunction F has non-empty and closed values and satisfies the lower Scorza Dragoni property and a weak integrable boundedness type condition, then we can substitute the problem ($P_F$) with another one ($P_G$), with a suitable convex right-hand side G, such that every generalized solution of ($P_G$) is also a generalized solution of ($P_F$) (see also Remark 1 and Corollary 1). As a consequence of our results, in conjunction with those in [13] and [18], some existence theorems for multivalued boundary value problems are then presented (see Theorem 2, Corollary 2 and Theorem 3). Finally, some applications are given to the existence of generalized solutions for two implicit boundary value problems (Theorems 4-6).

    W artykule przedstawiono najważniejsze zagadnienia związane z prawidłowym doborem maszyn w instalacjach produkcji kruszyw mineralnych. W pierwszej i drugiej części omówiono istotę procesów rozdrabniania oraz rodzaje wykorzystywanych kruszarek dostępnych na rynku europejskim. Trzecią część artykułu poświęcono zasadom doboru kruszarek przy projektowaniu instalacji i metodyce oceny procesu rozdrabniania. Okazuje się, że na uzyskiwanie jakościowo dobrych produktów wpływ ma także sposób prowadzenia procesu technologicznego, czyli ilość stadiów rozdrabniania, cykle technologiczne, sterowanie strumieniami przepływu materiału do współpracujących różnych maszyn (np. klasyfikatorów). Takie zagadnienia otwartych i zamkniętych układów technologicznych rozdrabniania i klasyfikacji omówiono w czwartej części artykułu. Na zakończenie przedstawiono przykłady instalacji produkcji kruszyw mineralnych w różnych układach rozdrabniania i klasyfikacji zaproponowane przez firmę Metso Minerals. Wyjaśniono modelową produkcję grysów w granulatorze stożkowym z udziałem i bez udziału drobnego materiału zawracanego do nadawy.
    Main issues connected with proper selection of crushing devices in aggregate production circuits were presented in the paper. The first and second section of the article concerns the basics of the comminution processes and the types of crushing devices applied on the European market. The third section treats the principles of crushers' selection on the stage of design and the comminution methodology. It appears that the way of operating the technological process - the number of crushing stages, the control of the material mass flow streams - influences the quality of obtained products. Problems of closed and open comminution circuits were presented in the section four. In summary the examples of technological circuits of aggregates production proposed by the Metso Minerals were shown. The model production of grifts in cone granulator with and without the fines recycle stream was also presented.

    Artykuł jest propozycją weryfikacji stanowisk zajmowanych w ostatnich kilkunastu latach wobec natężenia i kierunku zmian selekcji środowiskowych w polskiej oświacie. W weryfikacji wykorzystane zostały wyniki zewnętrznych egzaminów (sprawdzianu szóstoklasisty i egzaminu gimnazjalnego), od prawie dwudziestu lat przeprowadzanych corocznie na pełnych, ogólnokrajowych populacjach uczniów kończących naukę w szkołach podstawowych i gimnazjach. Dla określenia natężenia i kierunku zmian tych selekcji wykorzystano dane o wynikach uzyskanych przez ogół dzieci uczących się w kilku środowiskach społecznych, wyodrębnionych ze względu na wielkość miejscowości, w której prowadzone jest kształcenie. Przedstawione tu analizy wskazują, że nietrafne są stosunkowo liczne niedawno stwierdzenia o zmniejszającym się i niewielkim zróżnicowaniu wyników osiąganych przez uczniów kształcących się w różnych środowiskach. Szczegółowe dane są tylko częściowo zgodne z klasycznymi już sposobami wyjaśniania tych różnic, odwołującymi się do roli kapitału kulturowego w procesach reprodukcji społeczno-kulturowej. Wykazana w tym opracowaniu duża różnica poziomu uzyskanej wiedzy i umiejętności między uczącymi się w kilkunastu największych miastach a uczącymi się w małych miejscowościach stawia też w nowym świetle znaczenie zasady równego dostępu do wykształcenia w funkcjonowaniu polskiego systemu szkolnictwa.
    The article verifies the positions taken in the last dozen or so years in relation to the intensity and direction of changes in socio-spatial selection in Polish education. This verification is carried out on the basis of the results of external exams (sixth grade test and middle school exit exam) conducted for almost twenty years on full, nationwide populations of primary and middle school students. In the measurement of these selections, data on the quality of education achieved by children learning in several socio-spatial categories, distinguished by the size of the place in which education is provided, were used. The analyses presented here show that the numerous recent statements about the decreasing and low diversity of educational results achieved by students from different backgrounds are erroneous. Detailed data are only partially consistent with the already classic ways of explaining these differences, referring to the role of cultural capital in the processes of sociocultural reproduction. The large difference in the level of acquired knowledge and skills between learners in a dozen or so of the largest cities and learners in small towns also shines a new light on the importance of the principle of equal access to education in the functioning of the Polish educational system.
