- The paper presents an analysis of the variation in the number of insured farmers and beneficiaries using the agricultural insurance system in 1991-2015. The current system of farmers’ social insurance did not create good conditions for changes in the agrarian structure of farms or to develop more non-agricultural economic activity in rural areas. It should be emphasized, however, that the Polish agricultural policy assumes that a family farm is a basic entity functioning in agricultural structures, and the contributions of economically active insured farmers, supplemented by a budgetary subsidy, financials of benefits. Considering the issue of social insurance for farmers, it is worth pointing out that since the protection of farm workers it has undergone some evolution, as evidenced by the above data on the change in the number of insured persons in relation to the number of beneficiaries.
