Opis:
Oil and natural gas exploration is performed using geophysical methods and drilling works. In areas initially identified as prospective for the occurrence of accumulation oil or natural gas based on the analysis of geological data carried out geophysical surveys. The aim of this works is to identify geological structures that could constitute hydrocarbons traps. In the case of finding the appropriate structures, the next stage of exploration work is drilling well for further recognition of the structure. These works allow to explore not only the geological profile but also the physico-chemical properties of drilled rocks and reservoir fluids. Geophysical (mainly seismic) surveys and drilling works can affect the individual elements of the environment: the atmosphere, underground and surface water, ground surface and land and rock environment in different degrees. In order to estimate the risks, threats to all elements of the environment related to the prospection of hydrocarbon deposits have been analyzed (seismic and drilling works). Environmental risk is estimated based on a modified methodology contained in the norm PN 18002. For risks associated with the exploration referred to the consequences of adverse events in relation to the individual elements of the environment and the frequency thereof (by determining the probability of their occurrence). The risk was estimated by multiplying the weight of the likelihood of adverse events weights and consequences. Risk evaluation, indicating danger tolerated, acceptable and unacceptable was also evaluated

Opis:
Seismic refraction investigations, performed in Poland between 1964 and 1978, are reviewed. Examples selected from the many seismic profiles, totalling approximately 15 000 km in length, are shown. The most useful profiles as regards geological interpretation are in the Precambrian Platform and along its southwestern edge. Both the top of the crystalline basement and a system of faults, downfaulting the basement towards the south-west, can be identified in that area. In the Carpathians and its foreland, the top of this basement may be identified together with the bases of thrust flysch nappes. In the Fore-Sudetic Monocline, the top of folded Carboniferous deposits can be determined. The most ambiguous results were obtained from the Palaeozoic Platform.

Opis:
The paper presents the interpretation of a composite seismic profile recorded to 18 s TWT which crosses western Poland from the south to north. The interpretation is based on data along the profiles GB-2, GB-2B-96 and 25-III-82 collected between 1987 and 1996. Two reflection horizons bordering the crystalline crust have been recognized: in the top - SK, and in the base (Moho - M). The Caledonian complex is distinguished in the northern part of the profile GB-2 north of the Dolsk Zone. The results obtained allow determination of crustal structure down to the Moho. Several deep fault zones have been delimited (in the regions of Dolsk, Szamotuły and Trans-European Fault) which cut the entire crust. Crustal thickness ranges from approximately 30 km in the Palaeozoic platform up to about 40 km along the Trans-European Suture Zone.

Opis:
The paper presents a turning method saving time and energy while conducting seismic surveys and an example of its application. The introduced turning method is based on use of the ocean currents / tidal streams as a supporting factor. The turning technique is applicable for vessels towing streamers and conducting line-change or other maneuvers similar to 180° turn. Chosen forces affecting seismic in-water equipment as well as behavior of the spread are briefly shown and explained. Some advantages over traditional turning techniques are here described. The method was applied onboard the seismic vessel Geo Pacific reducing significantly time required for line-change.
