In the present article the productive role of visual representations in mathematics is explained by referring to “aspect seeing”. First, the notion of aspect seeing is introduced, as proposed by Wittgenstein in his works. Second, the pragmatic dimension of aspect seeing is discussed. Third, three key examples of aspect seeing in mathematics are presented with the aim of showing the relevance of aspect shifting in important areas of mathematics by looking at both its pragmatic dimension and its relationship with conceptual mastery. Finally, some conclusions are given about aspect seeing as a human phenomenon.

Opis:
Celem artykułu jest wyróżnienie dwóch, funkcjonujących w języku potocznym sensów wyrażenia „widzieć” – obiektywnego i subiektywnego bez jednoczesnego przypisywania obserwatorom przekonań. Celem jest zatem ekstensjonalna eksplikacja. Pozwala to na opisywanie percepcji wzrokowej bez przesądzania o wyższych zdolnościach kognitywnych podmiotu percepcji. Wprowadzenie przekonań obserwatora pozwala następnie na wyrażenie większej ilości rozróżnień występujących w literaturze poświęconej filozoficznym zagadnieniom percepcji zmysłowej.
The aim of the paper is to distinguish two common notions of the expression “to see” – objective and subjective without attributing beliefs to the observer. Thus, the main aim can be characterized as extensional explication. This gives us the ability to describe visual perception without assuming anything about higher cognitive abilities of the agent. Subsequent addition of the notion of belief enables me to characterize more visual categories present in the literature of the subject.

Odwołując się do pism Martina Heideggera, Friedricha Nietzschego i Kennetha White’a artykuł proponuje refenicję tak niezwykle istotnego pojęcia, jakim jest dla ludzkiej struktury świata „dom” umieszczając je w kręgu dialektyki zakorzenienia i wykorzenienia. Zgodnie z tradycją fenomenologiczną podkreslona zostaje waga spojrzenia, jako sposobu formowania i rozumienie krajobrazu. Oikologia spogląda na krajobraz, jako na miejsce szczególnego rodzaju spotkania, w którym w odróżnieniu od tego, co zwyczajowo nazywamy „spotkaniem”, a co jest tylko zejściem się kilku osób w wyznaczonym z góry miejscu i czasie w jakimś określonym celu, spotyka się z sobą wszystko: ludzie i zwierzęta, osoby i przedmioty, natura z kulturą, ekonomia z polityką. Nasze interwencje w materię świata winny więc służyć temu, aby miejsce było „wieloznaczne”, to znaczy, aby pomagało nam odzyskać świadomość i radość z poczucie jednorazowości naszego bytowania. Stąd także rola pedagogiki oikologicznej będącej w istocie pedagogiką spojrzenia, mającą sprzyjać tworzeniu się i odzyskiwaniu wrażliwości na przestrzeń i jej różnorakie aspekty.
Reading works of Martin Heidegger, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Kenneth White, we try to redefine the notion of home in a way which opens it to the dialectics of domesticity and deracination. Referring to the tradition of phenomenology, we also emphasize the role of visual perception in the formation of landscape as a particular meeting place which involves not only human world and man-made interventions but also the non-human forms of being. Oicology as a reflection upon the world accentuates this aspect of landscape as a meeting place endowed with plurality of meanings. Hence the inevitable pedagogical aspect of oicology as a reviving of the largely lost sensibility to landscape and its intricate and manifold structure.

The article presents the statements of selected Church Fathers (4th-5th centuries) concerning the Beatitude “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God” (Mt 5:8), spoken by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. They emphasise that during the earthly life man can only see the reflection of God if his heart is pure. Since man was created in the image and likeness of God, he carries this image in his heart, but this image was polluted by sin. Therefore, one should purify the heart by renouncing sins and developing virtues. The most important comments on this issue were expressed by St Gregory of Nyssa and St Augustine.

Krajobrazy swoją pięknością skłaniające do modlitwy to jeden z rodzajów krajobrazów świętych wyróżnionych przez św. Jana od Krzyża. Skłonność do modlitwy w krajobrazie wymaga dostrzegania nie tylko piękna lecz także widzenia w pięknie miłości Boga do swego stworzenia. Sacrum w różny sposób pojawia się w krajobrazie lecz wymaga uwagi i zrozumienia. Świętość ziemi przypominał błogosławiony Jan Paweł II poprzez pocałunek. Świętość wody jest potwierdzana przez wiele cudownych źródeł odwiedzanych przez pielgrzymów. Miejsca odczytywane jako święte są utrwalane przez znaki umieszczane w krajobrazie. Rozumienie mowy znaków, które przekazuje krajobraz bezpośrednio poprzez naturę lub rzeczy uczynione przez człowieka jest sztuką i wymaga nauczenia się sztuki patrzenia i widzenia. Szereg przykładów sztuki dawnej i nieliczne współczesnej pokazują zmieniające się rozumienie sakralnego wymiaru krajobrazu. Dziś potrzebna jest odnowa sakralnego widzenia krajobrazu. W tym celu może być użyteczne pojęcie genius loci łączące materialne, zmysłowe i duchowe warstwy krajobrazu.
There are landscapes leading by his beauty to prayers. Such landscapes are distinguished by Saint John as one kind of sacred landscapes. For praying in landscapes is necessary not only to see beauty but also God’s love to his creation. Sacrum reveals in landscape in different ways but is necessary to devote attention and comprehension. Sanctity of land was remembered in salute of John Paul II. Sanctity of water is confirmed in many miraculous sources visited by pilgrims. Places considered as sacred are commemorate by signs located in landscapes. Comprehension of landscape language of signs created by nature or by man is art and is necessary to learn this art of looking and seeing. Numerous examples of ancient art and contemporary not so numerous show to us changing comprehension of landscape sacral dimension. Today is needed renewal of sacred vision of landscape. To realize this purpose the notion genius loci can be useful because is connecting material, sensual and spiritual layers of landscape.

Opis:
Lexical concepts (i.e. semantic units conventionally associated with linguistic forms) are viewed in the article as structures consisting of interrelated facets (i.e. conceptual slots filled with various types of information about the referent) with different structural weight. The paper suggests a way to model the graded structure of lexical concepts by assessing the weight of each constituting facet according to its relevance for defining purposes, frequency of contextual profiling and salience in derivation processes. Thus, the approach taken exploits as many linguistic points of access to the concept as possible and uses three different dimensions to range its facets. The suggested idea is verified with a case study of some common lexical concepts in English (e.g. represented by concrete nouns such as “bird”, “tree”, etc.), which reveals both the advantages and the limitations of the approach taken.

The aim of this paper is to bring a set of specific semantic features which profile both a pupil and a pupil’s perception of a teacher. This issue is manifested at several levels and in various aspects of the concept of SEEING in Slovak linguistic world view. The study seeks to examine this subject in view of the statements collected in the questionnaire survey conducted on 10-14‑year‑old high school students. Therefore, the author focuses on the adolescent pupil, his or her perception of the school environment, and the selection of perceived object properties.
