Opis:
Let G=(V,E) be a graph with p vertices and q edges. A second order triangular graceful labeling of a graph G is an one to one function φ:V(G)→{0,1,2,…,B_q} where B_q is the qth second order triangular number, ie., B_q=1/6 q(q+1)(2q+1), that induces a bijection φ^*:E(G)→{B_1,B_2,…,B_q} of the edges of G defined by φ^* (uv) =|φ(u)-φ(v)| ∀ e=uv ∈E(G). A graph which admits such labeling is called a second order triangular graceful graph. In this paper, we introduce second order triangular graceful labeling and we prove that star, subdivision of star, nK_1,3, nK_2, bistar, path, comb, coconut tree, shrub and Y-tree are second order triangular graceful graphs.

Opis:
An approach to nonlinear constrained mathematical programming problems which makes use of a second order derivative is presented. By using a second order modified objective function method, a modified optimization problem associated with a primal mathematical programming problem is constructed. This auxiliary optimization problem involves a second order approximation of an objective function constituting the primal mathematical programming problem. The equivalence between the original mathematical programming problem and its associated modified optimization problem is established under second order convexity assumption. Several practical O.R. applications show that our method is efficient. Further, an iterative algorithm based on this approach for solving the considered nonlinear mathematical programming problem is given for the case when the functions constituting the problem are second order convex. The convergence theorems for the presented algorithm are established.

Opis:
In this paper I look at a number of apparently trivial valid inferences (as well as some invalid and missing inferences) associated with the possessive construction and with different types of adjectival modification of nouns. In the case of possessives, all analyses I know of, whether implemented or not, systematically sanction invalid inferences. In the case of adjectives, there are some model-theoretic linguistic analyses that are adequate at a theoretical level, but no satisfactory practical computational implementations that I am aware of which capture the correct inference patterns. A common thread between the possessive and the adjectival construction is that to derive the correct inferences we need secondo order quantification. This is an uncontroversial move within modeltheoretic formal semantics but a problem for computational semantics, since we have no fully automated theorem provers for anything Rother than first order logic (and only for subsets of first order logic do we have provers that are both fully decidable and efficient). I explore what is needed to provide a proof-theoretic account of the relevant inference patterns, and suggest some analyses requiring second order axioms. In order to make this a practical computational possibility I go on to propose two techniques for approximating such inferences in a first order setting. The suggested analyses have been fully implemented, and in an appendix I provide a small FraCaS-like corpus of relevant examples, all of which are handled correctly by the implementation.

Throughout this paper we shall use pairs of quadratic forms, which obtained by different methods than Kusano and Yoshida. This form will lead to a property of qualitative behavior, including amplitudes and slopes, of oscillatory solutions of the above equation. In addition, we will discuss the existence of three types (moderately bounded, small, large) of oscillatory solutions, which are based on results due to Kusano and Yoshida.

Among all the elections organized in Poland, presidential elections are not only the ones with a highest turnout, but also most eagerly investigated by the researchers. However, the studies concerning the importance of this particular voting is not often examined. On the one hand, there are arguments to classify it as first-order election, on the other, for certain reasons they ought to be regarded as second-order. The aim of this article is to answer the question whether 2015 Polish presidential election were of first or rather second-order importance. In his analysis, the author focused on the following issues: personal strategies, programme strategies, the course of the campaign in the traditional and new media, the level of electoral participation and the influence of the election on the course and outcome of the parliamentary campaign.

A nonstatistical methodology is introduced for eigenproblems of cracked cross-sectional beam systems with random parameters. The formalism is based on a combination of the second-order perturbation technique and mean-centered second moment analysis. The system random parameters are defined by their first two probalistic moments. Hierarchical equations are obtained and solved for the first two probalistic moments for the eigenvalue field. As the system matrix is nonsymmetric, a procedure for the exact solution of the sensitivity equations is proposed with each eigenvalue derivative solved for separatively. Analytical and numerical aspects of the problem are discussed and illustrative results are given. The approach presented is general and may be employed for a wide class of problems of fracture mechanics.

This paper is devoted to a sufficient second-order condition for a weak local minimum in a simple optimal control problem with one control constraint G(u) ≤ 0, given by a C2-function. A similar second-order condition was obtained earlier by the author for a strong minimum in a much more general problem. In the present paper, we would like to take a narrower perspective than before and thus provide shorter and simpler proofs. In addition, the paper uses the first and second order tangents to the set U, defined by the inequality G(u) ≤ 0. The main difficulty of the proof, clearly shown in the paper, refers to the set, where the gradient Hu of the Hamiltonian is small, but the condition of quadratic growth of the Hamiltonian is satisfied. The paper can be valuable for self-explanation and provides a basis for extensions.

These results extend and improve the well known results of Grammatikopoulos et. al., Graef et. al., Tanaka for the nonlinear neutral case and the recent results of Dzurina and Mihalikova for the neutral linear case. Some examples are considered to illustrate our main results.

The efficiency of two polarizations is more than 90%. In addition, compared with a single-layer three-port grating, this new beam splitter has good fabrication tolerance and incident bandwidth. Therefore, the optimized structure has a good application value.

This paper improves the results of and gives shorter proofs for the analysis of state constrained optimal control problems than presented by the authors in Bonnans and Hermant (2009b), concerning second order optimality conditions and the well-posedness of the shooting algorithm. The hypothesis for the second order necessary conditions is weaker, and the main results are obtained without reduction to the normal form used in that reference, and without analysis of high order regularity results for the control. In addition, we provide some numerical illustration. The essential tool is the use of the "alternative optimality system".

Moreover, the equilibrium studies were caried out at ambient temperature and fitted to the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The AFM pictures of the surface of anion exchange resins before and after the loading process were also recorded. Both resins exhibit high selectivity towards palladium(II) ions. The sorption capacities are in the range 7–10 mg/g for both resins under discussion in all examined solutions. Th e pseudo-second order kinetic equation and the Langmuir isotherm show the best fit with the experimental data.

We considered here the first-order characteristics: probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function and outage probability (OP). Then, the moments and amount of fading (AoF) were derived in the closed forms. The second order characteristics we present include the following: level crossing rate (LCR) and average fade duration (AFD). A few graphs are given to show the impact of the specific parameters of the wireless three-hop relay system.

This paper is concerned with domain decomposition in exact controllability of a class of linear second order hyperbolic systems on one-dimensional graphs in [R^3] that in particular serve as descriptive models of the dynamics of various multi-link structures consisting of one-dimensional elements, such as networks of Timoshenko beams in [R^3]. We first consider a standard unconstrained optimal control problem in which the cost functional penalizes the deviation of the final state of the global problem from a given target state. A convergent domain decomposition for the optimality system associated with this problem was recently given by G. Leugering. This decomposition depends on the penalty parameter. On each edge of the graph and at each iteration level the local problem is itself the optimality system associated with an unconstrained optimal control problem in which the cost functional penalizes the deviation of the final state of the particular edge from the target state for that edge. The main purpose of this paper is to show that at each iteration level and on each edge the local optimality system converges as the penalty parameter approaches its limit and that the limit system is a domain decomposition for the problem of norm minimum exact control to the target state.

The issue with gamer identity has been troubling researchers for the last decade. Despite trying to assign different parameters such as time spent playing, individuals themselves do not identify along such lines and the reasons why one person defines themselves as a gamer and another does not have not been clear. The goal of this paper to demonstrate, by applying B. Suits ontology of games and understanding identity in accordance with H.-G. Moeller’s concept of profilicity as a form of identity construction, the existence of two separate constructs of the gamer label. To demonstrate this, a series of interviews were conducted with two groups of people engaged in gaming: those who sought fun and those that desired winning. Both groups show clear differences in self-identification with their identity and the observed differences explain inconsistencies and issues observed by prior studies. Playing for fun is a factor that acts against seeing oneself as a gamer while playing to win is a factor inducive towards identifying as a gamer. Those that seek winning are likely to seek validation of their identity by comparing themselves to known gamer influencers while those that prefer playing over gaming will construct their definition of a gamer in an authentic manner.

Second order necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for bang-bang control problems have been studied in Milyutin, Osmolovskii (1998). These conditions amount to testing the positive (semi-)definiteness of a quadratic form on a critical cone. The assumptions are appropriate for numerical verification only in some special cases. In this paper, we study various transformations of the quadratic form and the critical cone which will be tailored to different types of control problems in practice. In particular, by means of a solution to a linear matrix differential equation, the quadratic form can be converted to perfect squares. We demonstrate by three practical examples that the conditions obtained can be verified numerically.

Opis:
C.I. Reactive Black 5 (RB5) is the most commonly used dye in the textile industry. Ozone is a strong oxidan that can decompose many barely degradable pollutants, including dyes. Although there are many literature reports devoted to the treatment of textile wastewater and dye solutions by ozone, the ozonation mechanism and modeling of the kinetics is still not well covered. In this work a kinetic model of the process of RB5 decolourisation by ozone has been proposed and validated on the basis of experimental data. The experiments were carried out in a liquid-liquid system to avoid mass transfer limitation. A model was established for acid reaction medium. The main RB5 reaction was direct oxidation of the dye with molecular ozone. The self-decomposition of ozone in liquid phase was taken into account and described by an empirical equation. The reaction rate constants of RB5 with ozone were estimated from the experimental data in the range of (1.88 ± 0.08) × 104 – (2.53 ± 0.10) × 105 M-1s-1 (invariant with initial dye concentration). An empirical equation k′ 2 = 1.06 × 108(COH−)0.31 was built for the constant to make it dependent on the pH value. A solution of the non-linear inverse problem allowed for identification of the kinetic constants on the basis of the experimental data obtained. The model gave a good match between the prediction and experimental data for pH between 1.88 and 4.0.

In this paper, the second-order hydrodynamic force on fixed and floating tandem cylinders has been calculated and different parameters have been taken into consideration. An incident wave is diffracted by the fixed cylinder, and as a result low-frequency waves radiate toward the floating cylinder and cause low-frequency second-order hydrodynamic forces to act on the surface of the floating cylinder. The interactions between the fixed and floating cylinders have been investigated by changing the distance between them, as well as the draft and radius of the floating cylinder. By employing perturbation series analysis over the wetted surface, the second-order wave excitation force has been calculated. The maximum force applied on the floating cylinder becomes non-dimensional when considering it with and without the fixed cylinder. The results showed the effect that the existence of the fixed cylinder had on the increase in the second-order forces is quite evident where, for a significant parameter of the floating cylinder, the force in the heave direction was enhanced by up to 1.55 times.

Opis:
Proper synchronization of Distributed Generator with grid and its performance in grid-connected mode relies on fast and precise estimation of phase and amplitude of the fundamental component of grid voltage. However, the accuracy with which the frequency is estimated is dependent on the type of grid voltage abnormalities and structure of the phase-locked loop or frequency locked loop control schemes. Among various control schemes, second-order generalized integrator based frequency- locked loop (SOGI-FLL) is reported to have the most promising performance. It tracks the frequency of grid voltage accurately even when grid voltage is characterized by sag, swell, harmonics, imbalance, frequency variations etc. However, estimated frequency contains low frequency oscillations in case when sensed grid-voltage has a dc offset. This paper presents a modified dual second-order generalized integrator frequency-locked loop (MDSOGI-FLL) for three-phase systems to cope with the non-ideal three-phase grid voltages having all type of abnormalities including the dc offset. The complexity in control scheme is almost the same as the standard dual SOGI-FLL, but the performance is enhanced. Simulation results show that the proposed MDSOGI-FLL is effective under all abnormal grid voltage conditions. The results are validated experimentally to justify the superior performance of MDSOGI-FLL under adverse conditions.

Opis:
The present paper discusses steady MHD second order slip flow and heat transfer for a slightly rarefied gas due to an impermeable stretching sheet with heat flux and internal heat generation. By using the Lie group analysis, new similarity transformations are obtained. Employing these transformations, allows the partial differential equations governing the problem to transform into a system of ordinary differential equations which are later treated numerically using shooting method. Effects of the governing parameters on the dimensionless velocity and dimensionless temperature profiles are outlined graphically. Furthermore, results for the local skin-friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number are presented for some different values of the governing parameters in a tabular form. Also, results show that there is a strong dependency of the dimensionless temperature on the heat flux.

From the text: "The problem of steady-state filtration in porous media leads to a boundary value problem with a free boundary for  a linear differential equation of elliptic type. C. Baiocchi [Ann. Mat. Pura Appl. (4) 92 (1972), 107–127; MR0408443] proposed a new technique for solving such problems. Not only does this technique permit one to obtain theoretical results which are rigorous from the mathematical point of view, but it is also useful in applications. The main idea consists in reducing the boundary value problem to a certain variational inequality. This technique was first applied to the solution of a basic model problem, but subsequently its applications were broadened and it was applied to more general cases.  In this essay we offer the reader a compact presentation of the fundamental results derived in this area during the last few years."

Opis:
Second order sufficient optimality conditions (SSC) are derived for optimal multiprocess control problems. For that purpose the multiprocess control problem is transformed into a single stage control problem with augmented state variables which comprise the state variables of all individual stages as well as the switching times as choice variables. This toansformation allows to apply the known SSC for single stage control problems. A numerical test of SSC involves the solution of an associated Riccati equation together with boundary conditions adapted to the multiprocess. Sensitivity analysis of parametric multiprocess problems can be based on SSC. A numerical example of the optimal two-stage control of a robot illustrates both SSC and sensitivity analysis.

Opis:
Output-only modal analysis techniques and dynamic monitoring for vibration-based structural health assessment are primary tools for the investigation of the dynamic behavior even of very complex systems. An increasing attention towards these techniques and the opportunities they offer is rising also in the civil engineering field. In the present paper, the attention is focused on the possibility to enhance the knowledge about specific civil engineering systems using traditional and innovative operational modal analysis (OMA) methods. Two case studies are presented: one is focused on the assessment of the performance of the Second Order Blind Identification for output-only modal analysis in the presence of closely spaced modes. In the other, OMA is applied to the simulated dynamic response of an embedded retaining wall. Encouraging results are obtained, pointing out that OMA can be confidently applied also to the analysis of wall vibrations induced by propagating waves.
