    Pedagogical opinions of J. A. Comenius and his unique reflections on the improvement of the society represent one of the main standpoints for the development of humanist pedagogy around the world. His concept of education as well as his ideas on how to resolve many of the world’s complex problems were at the time highly progressive and have influenced the society’s way of thinking in Slovakia as well. The credit for the popularisation of his ideas goes to many notable personalities in Slovakia in the 19th and 20th centuries. His ideas are still tangible in the process of contemporary teaching of pedagogues, from primary schools all the way to universities.

    Current discussions on the importance of retirement are largely built on statistical analyses of longitudinal data showing that well-being seldom changes from before to after entering retirement, but is rather mainly dependent on the individual’s social resource position. In contrast, qualitatively oriented researchers underline that the retirement process is a complex life transition that needs to be further illuminated. To do this, however, we need to advance new theoretical and methodological perspectives. In this article, an existential sociology approach is outlined, emphasizing the multifaceted spectra of lived experiences and meaning-making in the retirement process. The phenomenological approaches of existential sociology allow us to consider how the exit from working life is created in the processes of motion rather than as expressions of static positions. A merit of this approach is that retirement as an empirical case may say something general about being in transition as a basic social condition. In the article, we discuss how a socio-biographical methodology, based on longitudinal qualitative interviews, helps us capture how existential meaning is formed and reformed in the ambiguous situations which arise in similar life-course transitions. Theoretically, we especially draw on concepts from the existential anthropologist Jackson and the phenomenological tradition of existential philosophers such as Arendt and Heidegger.

    This paper proposes to examine Giulia Civita Franceschi’s work in the city of Naples, in favour of abandoned childhood. Between 1913 and 1928, she obtained by the Ministry of Navy and steered the training ship Caracciolo, which became for many urchins their home and family. So, they had the occasion to be saved from misery and delinquency. While before it they crowded streets, squares and arcades of the city, searching charity and ready to steel for surviving, on board ship they became little sailors, living a laborious and restrained life. Civita, inspiring to the concept of the sea as an educator, showed that thanks to her method, edged children and boys could become citizens, conscious of their rights and duties. The ship was site of visits by Italian and foreign delegations, which went to observe closer an educative experiment, considered as a pattern to imitate. The ship was a «second birth» for the Neapolitan urchins, offering them a new starting point, not an arrival point or a temporary protective recovery. The orientation impressed by Giulia Civita, in fact, marked the “Caracciolo” among other similar experiences as a unique educative pattern.

    W artykule omawiamy rozwój ludności wiejskiej w Polsce w ciągu ostatnich 60 lat i najnowsze prognozy demograficzne Głównego Urzędu Statystycznego. Przedmiotem naszej uwagi są także procesy demograficzne w przekroju miasto-wieś. Polska należy do mniej zurbanizowanych krajów europejskich. Z krajów sąsiadujących z Polską, niższy odsetek ludności miejskiej występuje tylko na Słowacji. Jednakże w przeszłości różnice w poziomie urbanizacji Polski i innych krajów europejskich były dużo większe. W latach 1950-1990 odsetek ludności miejskiej w Polsce wzrósł z 35 do 62%. Natomiast od 1990r. odsetek ludności wiejskiej przestał opadać a w ostatnich kilku latach widoczny jest nawet spadek urbanizacji naszego kraju. Główną przyczyną zmiany jest systematyczna zmiana kierunków migracji. Coraz więcej ludności miejskiej przesiedla się na wieś. Dość zastanawiające, że proces ten zaczął się znacznie wcześniej, niż zmienił się system polityczny w Polsce. Od 1975r. zmniejsza się systematycznie ujemne saldo migracji wieś -miasto a od 2000r. coraz więcej ludności wędruje na wieś niż niej wychodzi. Zwracamy też uwagę, że podobne zjawiska wzrostu znaczenia zaludnienia obszarów wiejskich występują także w innych krajach. Jednakże, chociaż Polska podąża za krajami europejskimi także w sferze przemian obyczajowych, to wieś wydaje się ostoją tradycyjnych wartości rodzinnych.
    In this paper we discuss the development of the rural population in Poland over the past 60 years and the latest demographic projections of Central Statistical Office. The main objects of our attention are the demographic processes in rural-urban cross-section. Poland belongs to the less urbanized countries in Europe. Among Polish neighbors, a lower proportion of urban population is only in Slovakia. However, in the past, differences in the level of urbanization between Poland and other European countries were much higher. In the years 1950-1990 the percentage of urban population in Poland increased from 35 to 62%. However, since 1990. share of rural population has ceased to fall and in the last few years have seen a decline in urbanization even in our country. The main reason for the change is a systematic change in the directions of rural-urban migration. More and more urban population moves to the village. Quite interestingly, this process began much earlier than the changed political system in Poland. Since 1975. decreases systematically negative balance of net rural-urban migration. Since 2000. more and more of the population migrates to the country than comes out. We also pay attention that a similar phenomenon of the growing importance of the share of rural population also occurs in other countries. However, while Poland is following the European countries also in the sphere of customary transformation, the village population seems to be the mainstay of traditional family values.
