Opis:
Indoor radon concentration undergoes 24-hour and seasonal changes. The paper presents first in Poland results of radon concentration changeability in one building during the whole year. We performed 103 measurements of indoor radon concentrations. The following parameters of radon concentration distribution were obtained: arithmetic mean - 224.1 Bq m 3, geometric mean - 194.5 Bq m 3, median - 207 Bq m 3, and geometric standard deviation - 1.84. The minimum observed value was 22 Bq m 3 and the maximum - 748 Bq m 3. We determined the monthly and annual values of radon concentrations. The values for particular months are in the range of 0.5 to 1.6 of the annual mean. We observed a correlation between the mean radon concentrations in the examined buildings and the differences in the mean values of indoor (R = 0.91, p < 0.05) and outdoor temperatures (R = 0.91, p < 0.05). There was also a connection between the radon concentration inside the buildings and the changes in atmospheric pressure.

In the paper we present the examples of forecasts of time series with seasonal fluctuations. Based on the jackknife method we estimate variances of seasonal factors and the MSE of prediction. Jackknife method has been introduced by M. Quenouille (1949) and then it has been developed among others by J. Tukey (1958) and J. Shao, D. Tu (1995).
W pracy zaproponowano wykorzystanie metody jackknife do prognozowania szeregów czasowych.

The studies have been conducted in the Botanical Garden of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań based on the Shennikov research method (1928) modified by Łukasiewicz (1984). Observations have shown that the longest foliage period have species: A. japonicum, A. mono, A. platanoides and A. rubrum, while the longest duration of the autumn leaf discoloration is characterized by A. stachyophyllum, A. circinatum, A. palmatum, A. mono and female specimen of A. cissifolium. In addition all studied species, except A. buergerianum, A. capillipes, A. circinatum, A. tataricum and A. tataricum ssp. ginnala, are distinguished by the attractive autumn color of the leaves. The longest flowering period was in A. truncatum, A. stachyophyllum, A. circinatum and A. palmatum, while A. buergerianum, A. diabolicum and A. saccharum did not bloom at all. The most attractive flowers have A. davidii and A. platanoides and the most decorative fruits have A. capillipes, A. davidii, A. tataricum and A. tataricum ssp. ginnala. Studies have also shown that A. mono, A. rubrum and A. rufinerve did not fruition at all. The species of maple with the highest number of positive traits is Acer davidii, therefore it should be used as often as possible in green areas.

Opis:
In the paper, results of year-long measurements of radon levels in dwellings on the premises of Silesian Voivodeship are presented. Track etched detectors with polymer CR-39 foils were used in the investigations. As the studied buildings were located in different regions of Silesian Voivodeship, therefore results of measurements were analysed due to possible influence of geological structure or effect of mining operations in places, where given dwellings were situated. Elevated concentrations of radon were measured mostly in dwellings located in areas, where permeable Triassic limestone and dolomite occur, as it has been predicted. On the other hand, the impact of mining activity such as disintegration of rock-body and activation of faults plays an important role, too, because it enables radon migration and its entry into buildings. Beside the analysis of seasonal variations of radon activity concentration, the impact of temperature and pressure on these fluctuations outdoor and indoor buildings has been analysed.

Opis:
The study was carried out to ascertain seasonal variation in heavy metal distribution in sediments from Dams located in Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Sediment samples were collected twice each at two different seasons for two years from May to September, 2014 and November-December, 2014 to March, 2015 for wet and dry seasons, respectively. Similarly, sediment samples were collected from May to September, 2015 and November-December, 2015 to March, 2016 for wet and dry seasons, respectively. The samples were then assessed for heavy metal properties, using atomic absorption spectrophotography (AAS). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was then applied. The mean results of the heavy metal levels showed high values in dry seasons and low values in wet seasons in the two years of the study. Herein, the results of ANOVA revealed significant difference in the heavy metal concentrations between the seasons, dams and years. Our study also indicated that for heavy metals, the levels determined in sediments were within the WHO acceptable standards, except for Pb and Mn. These exceeded the WHO acceptable standards for drinking water. Based on these results, the dam waters are, therefore, polluted and unsuitable for human consumption, except after treatment.

Opis:
This study deals with seasonal variation of heavy metals in sediments of Muthupet lagoon, Southeast coast of India from September 2011 to August 2012. The bulk sediments were association with sand, silt and clay. Geoaccumulation index (lgeo) was used to quantitatively assess the influences of heavy metal pollution. Heavy metals were determined by using Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES) and the results were compared to permissible limits of WHO/USEPA. The minimum concentration of heavy metals in all the stations were found during the post monsoon and summer seasons and the maximum concentration of heavy metals in all the stations were found during the premonsoon and monsoon seasons. The reason for the pollution was land drainage, irrigation through channels and municipal wastes and also the peak agricultural activities due to the release of fresh water from reservoirs. Among all the metals iron was found to be maximum in all the stations in postmonsoon and summer season followed by magnesium and manganese. Apart from these three metal, all other six metals are recorded in moderate range. The reason for the high concentration of these metals are anthropogenic activity, agriculture, aquaculture and the rivers regular in and out flow throughout the study duration in the lagoon area.

Opis:
In the 1930s, Latvia was one of the main target countries for economic emigration from Poland. Emigration to Latvia was seasonal. Between 1936 and 1939, each year about 40,000 Polish agricultural workers were employed in Latvian agriculture. Polish seasonal migration was the object of attention of the contemporary press, both Polish and foreign. A very valuable source of knowledge about Polish seasonal migration is the newspaper Nasze Życie (Our Life). This applies especially to various aspects of Polish migrants’ everyday life. It was the only Polish newspaper in Latvia (it was published in Riga). From 1936, the newspaper had a special section devoted to seasonal workers. It contained information and messages addressed to the migrants. The editorial team’s task was to provide the workers with comprehensive and reliable help. In this regard, advice and guidance was given on the organisation of workers’ lives and work. These advices were difficult to overestimate. The newspaper also covered religious and moral topics. At the same time, the newspaper was the main link between the workers and the Polish consular service. It published messages of the Polish Consulate in Riga. Unfortunately, the weekly reached few seasonal migrants. Most workers did not read or subscribe to the newspaper for various reasons. The article analyses the content of the newspaper Nasze Życie. The author confronted the content of the newspaper with other available sources regarding the issues of Polish seasonal migration in Latvia.

Opis:
Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) are reference stations of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), providing fundamental positioning infrastructure that is accurate and reliable. As such, CORS are designed to meet the needs of a wide range of users requiring high three-dimensional (3D) positional accuracy. The Continuously Operating Reference Station at the Engineering Faculty (CREF), University of Lagos was set up in order to support research applications in Surveying, Mapping and Geodesy. This study evaluates the seasonal variations in the 3D coordinates of CREF using metrics such as coordinate differences, Standard Deviation (SD) and Standard Error (SE). The Canadian Spatial Reference System (CSRS), known as CSRS – Precise Point Positioning (CSRS-PPP) was used to compute the station’s daily coordinates over a three-year period from 2016 to 2018. In the analysis, the daily coordinates were divided into two seasons - the wet and the dry. The results obtained show that the dry and the wet seasons had SDs (5.4 mm, 3.9 mm, and 2.0 mm) and (5.2 mm, 18.6 mm and 14.4 mm) in the x, y and z-directions respectively. Generally, the dry season presents a better result than the wet season as revealed by the accuracy metrics. These results have led to an increased understanding of the seasonal variability inherent in the data acquired by GNSS CORS, and must be taken into consideration: in particular, for GNSS applications such as the weather prediction and water vapour estimation. This study concludes that more needs to be done regarding the maintenance of CREF to ensure data continuity and reliability for geodetic studies.

Interface of Geodiversity with human response can be understood simply as, the natural range (diversity) of geological (rocks, minerals, fossils), geomorphological (landforms, topography, physical processes), soil and hydrological features including their assemblages, structures, systems and contributions to landscapes together with the anthropogenic amalgamation in the landscape system. Geomorphosites are those components of geodiversity that have acquired a scientific, cultural/historical, aesthetic and socio-economic value due to human perception or exploitation (Panizza, 2001). The trans-Himalayan district of Lahaul and Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, India is a landlocked district in trans-Himalaya accessible seasonally through high mountain passes; where the interface is manifested though human response to the geodiversity elements. The abiotic factors play a significant role in generating stimuli and the human response varies accordingly in the study area. It is also known as the Tethyan Himalayan region, where the interface (interactive zone/ crossing point/edge) of Geomorphosites and human response in terms of geotourism has been analysed and mapped. The data has been collected through extensive field work using structured questionnaire survey and field observations at geomorphosites having unique characteristics. The field work has been done in May–June 2017 and June 2018. The assessment of human response in terms of seasonal economy and geotourism has been done using GIS environment, GPS and SWOT analysis. The study highlights that potential geotourism sites have to be further identified, explored and developed in the region and the existing sites have to be conserved in order to harness the tremendous geotourism potential of the region and thereby boosting the seasonal economy.
