    Acquiring a knowledge that goes beyond sensual experience (for example, looking through a microscope or telescope) and beyond categories rooted in language, requires a lot of courage, crossing the safe boundaries of the domesticated and designated world.The poetic porte-parole of Wis³awa Szymborska struggles with the experience of crossing these boundaries, which leads to undermining the customary categorisations established in our common language. The author of the paper interprets these poetic transgressions – evoked in the works of the Noble Prize winner – from the linguistic perspective. Namely, she refers them to two concepts of the linguistic categorisation of the world: logical (scientific), originating from Aristotle’s theory, and cognitive, alluding to Immanuel Kant’s philosophy focused on the popular (naïve and culturally determined) image of the world. The paper presents the manner in which devices of artistic expression, such as a metaphor, negation, tautology, gradation, etc., are adopted by the poet to undermine both the popular (stereotypical) qualification of phenomena and scientifically determined category boundaries.

    Opis:
    The aim of this article is to reconstruct the world-image outlined in the philosophical analyses by the Cracovian Jesuit philosopher and biologist Piotr Lenartowicz SJ. The reconstruction shows that he adopted an Aristotelian-Thomistic image of the world, in which the category of substance plays an overarching role, whose heuristic function reveals itself in a special way in the description and explanation of the dynamics of biological life. The article critically assesses this image by confronting it with the modern so-called ‘scientific image’ of the world, as embraced by those who support a scientific context for philosophising. This leads to a highlighting of epistemological limitations on the applicability of the Aristotelian category of substance in respect to the description of living beings. Moreover, it is shown that discussions involving supporters of different world-images (the scientific and Aristotelian-Thomistic ones) are ultimately undecidable, as the acceptance of these images involves personality-related factors such as epistemic faith and emotions. These have the effect of making those who embrace such world-images unwilling to change their view.
    Celem artykułu jest rekonstrukcja obrazu świata, który w swoich analizach filozoficznych zakładał krakowski jezuita – filozof i biolog – Piotr Lenartowicz SJ. Rekonstrukcja pokazała, że autor przyjmował arystotelesowsko-tomistyczny obraz świata, w którym naczelną rolę odgrywała kategoria substancji, której heurystyczna rola ujawnia się, w sposób szczególny, w opisie i wyjaśnieniu dynamiki życia biologicznego. W artykule dokonano krytycznej oceny zakładanego obrazu świata poprzez skonfrontowanie go ze współczesnym tzw. naukowym obrazem świata, akceptowanym przez zwolenników filozofii w kontekście nauki. Doprowadziło to do wskazania epistemologicznych ograniczeń stosowalności arystotelesowskiej kategorii substancji w opisie bytu ożywionego, ponadto zostało pokazane, że dyskusje między zwolennikami różnych obrazów świata (naukowego i arystotelesowsko-tomistycznego) są w ostateczności nierozstrzygalne, ze względu na obecność w akceptacji tych obrazów osobowościowych uwarunkowań takich, jak: wiara epistemiczna i emocje. Komponenty te czynią z użytkowników obrazów świata, wyznawców niechętnych do zmiany swoich poglądów.

    Opis:
    Tematem opracowania jest problematyka obrazu człowieka w ekonomii. Celem jest zrozumienie tego terminu, a więc znalezienie jego możliwie pełnej definicji. W tym celu postawiono pytanie o funkcje jakie spełnia obraz człowieka w ekonomii i wyróżniono funkcje: deskryptywną, pozytywną i normatywną. Następnie podjęto próbę zdefiniowania obrazu człowieka jak też wskazania jego najważniejszych komponentów i cech charakterystycznych. Wykazano, od czego obraz człowieka zależy (nie tylko od zmian otoczenia, ale także od obrazu świata) oraz na co wpływa - faktyczne zachowania podmiotów gospodarczych (wynikające z ich zakorzenienia systemowego), jak też teorie ekonomiczne, poprzez wpływ na teorie zachowania.
    The subject of the research paper concerns a image of a man in economics. The paper aims at understanding this concept and funding its complete definition. Therefore, a question concerning functions of a image of a man in economics has been put forward and descriptive, positive and normative functions have been distinguished. The attempt to define the image of homo oeconomicus has been also made along with indicating its major components and characteristic features. The paper points out the factors determining the image of a man (these are not only changes within the surrounding, but also the image of the world) and what these factors influence – actual behavioural patterns of entities (resulting from the system they are rooted in) as well as economic theories through their impact on theories of behavioural patterns.
