The purpose of this article is to explore the traditions and customs commemorated by the school community from the Austrian annexation. It presents their involvement in the celebration of national anniversaries (e. g. the adoption of the Constitution of May 3, the battle of Raclawice, uprisings) and religious ones (including Christmas, Easter, Corpus Christi, All Souls’ Day). On the other side, it shows events associated with Polish education (e. g. National Commission of Education day) and also the functioning of the school (school anniversaries, the day of the patron saint of the school). It takes into consideration the ways of commemorating the achievements of people who contributed to the history of Polish learning and culture (e. g. Tadeusz Kościuszko, Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Słowacki). In addition, it explores the attitudes of the teachers to Polish traditions and customs. The above issues are illustrated on the basis of selected diaries and memoirs written by pupils and teachers.

The quantitative research, the partial results described in this article, was carried out as part of the COVID-HL network (covid-hl.eu). They aimed to determine to what extent health promotion and safety measures were taken in Polish schools during the COVID-19 pandemic for members of school communities. A survey method was used to conduct the research, which included an online distributed questionnaire. The research sample consisted of principals and deputy principals of schools located in eight provinces (N = 803). The research showed that school principals were highly involved in implementing health promotion activities and were, at the same time, severely burdened with tasks related to ensuring the safety of all school community representatives and maintaining proper organisation of school work during the pandemic.

The paper presents the results of a research on the student councils in Warsaw high schools. School principals, their deputies, student council supervisors and representatives of student council board were interviewed. The aim of the study was to find the features, problems and way of functioning of student councils inside the school community. Research has shown two faces of student self-governance. One is connected with activities for the community, not only at school, but also local, in which the supervisor is a guide, and the pedagogical council supports and contributes to greater motivation in activities, the other shows student council as frustrated fake who follows the guidance of a director or supervisor and has no strength or desire to encourage the school community to get involved in self-governance activities. It is crucial to select and train proper student council supervisors that can attract active pupils and support them to lead their own colleagues with student council.

Abstract The article aims to introduce the community school as one of the possible models for the predicted development of schooling in today's knowledge society. Contrasting with its applications in the UK and US, the paper showcases current developments in the community school concept in the Czech Republic, reflecting on the position of the community school in contemporary specialist discourse. There is an overview of select research into community schools, the types of community schools in the UK, US and the Czech Republic (where the concept has only been applied since the 1990s in its present form), complemented by an analysis of the community school concept as a whole with particular attention paid to its internal coherence and diversity. Community school standards are outlined to provide additional background. The methodology of the article is grounded in the theoretical analysis of specialist literature, relevant projects, and other sources.

To cope with the challenges of the 21st century, a new Israeli educational reform, “Israel is moving up a grade” (known as Israel Ola Kita), was announced in 2014 by the former Minister of Education, Shai Piron, with the aim of assimilating the principles of meaningful learning in schools. A publication of the Ministry of Education, Something Good is Happening Now (2014) presented the policy and milestones for realizing the reform across the educational continuum.The current article highlights the complexities involved in the underlying reform principles concerning the change in the teacher’s role and argues the urgent need for considerations of these complexities through an expanded view of teachers’ professional development (TPD)with the aim of promoting deep-seated change rather than a superficial ‘signaling’ of the reform.

Artykuł odnosi się do postulatu wyrównywania szans edukacyjnych dzieci wiejskich poprzez edukację przedszkolną. Ukazuje istniejące w tym obszarze bariery, lecz także szanse. Autorka analizuje zmiany, jakie w ostatnich latach nastąpiły w dostępie do różnych form wychowania przedszkolnego na wsi. Zwraca uwagę zarówno na poziom upowszechnienia tej edukacji, jak i jej jakość. W konkluzji zwraca uwagę na szanse, jakie dla wiejskiej edukacji przedszkolnej rodzi wcielona w życie idea szkoły środowiskowej.
The article addresses the postulate of providing equal educational opportunities for children from rural areas through pre-school education. It presents both the barriers as well as opportunities that exist in this area. The author analyses the changes that have occurred in recent years in the access to various forms of preschool education in the country. Both the level at which this education has been spread as well as its quality are highlighted. In conclusion, the attention is drawn to the opportunities provided to the pre-school education in rural areas by the implemented idea of community school.

Aim. The aim of the research is to determine what role management and schools play in the organisation of students” free time, and what activities it undertakes to educate for leisure time. Methods. This study used methods of theoretical analysis, survey research methods, and questionnaires, in which 1410 subjects such as principals, teachers, parents and students from 150 primary schools in Bosnia and Herzegowina (B&H) participated. Results. The results show that principals and teachers have positive attitudes about the rational use of students’ free time in order to prepare them  for continuing self-education with the use of various sources of knowledge. Conclusion. Conclusions show that for a better understanding of the role of school management it is necessary to do more research about this issue on the territory of B&H, because the proper organisation and implementation of students’ free time can be successful if all participants in education work together. Research restrictions. Since it is not possible to make comparison with results of the previous research on this topic on the territory of B&H,  the study compares results with results from other countries. Practical application. The practical goal is to examine the education and to increase the understanding and awareness of the free time of young people. Originality. This study is original and creative, and it contributes to better understanding of the role of management in leisure activities on students’ emotional, social, cognitive and work competencies.

Opis:
An egalitarian model of university-school partnerships starts with a theoretical frame of equity and social justice. This qualitative research study sought to understand high school students’ perception of community service through an intergenerational university-high school-elementary school partnership. Data analysis consisted of detailed notes collected from university faculty who oversaw the focus group discussions and two graduate assistants who took observational notes.  These notes were analyzed and thematically organized.  The findings indicate that the students enjoyed the experience and were highly motivated to complete and read their community themed book for the younger children in their community.  This research contributes new knowledge to the field of community engagement and to the field of informal and formal education through its analysis of discussions on meaningful community service pertaining to university-school collaborative partnerships.

Opis:
Youth slang as a sociolect serves to integrate and distinguish a particular group and to identify its members. As a rule, it is used as a community-building tool by those who aspire or actually belong to a group. In the article, the author attempts to answer the following questions: Who uses youth slang and in what communicative situations it is used at school? What is the context for using slang expressions? In what functions are they used? How are they received? Answers to these detailed questions will provide the basis for answering the main one: What is the significance of youth slang used in school communication for building a community? On the basis of studies carried out among school students, it may be concluded that the correct use of youth slang is closely related to the communicative situation. Deliberate and relevant use of the sociolect may become one of the elements of building a social community at school.

Edukacja środowiskowa opiera się na koncepcji kształcenia i wychowania społeczeństwa w duchu poszanowania środowiska przyrodniczego. Edukację ekologiczną realizuje nie tylko szkoła w ramach edukacji formalnej i nieformalnej, ale także dom rodzinny, media, samorząd gminy i wiele instytucji i stowarzyszeń działających w środowisku lokalnym. Tylko wspólne działania szkoły, rodziny i środowiska lokalnego są w stanie wykształcić jednostkę aktywną społecznie teraz i w dorosłym życiu. Poglądy, opinie oraz potwierdzenie działań praktycznych realizowanych przez uczniów szkół podstawowych i gimnazjów, rodziców, nauczycieli i studentów w zakresie współpracy szkoły ze społecznością lokalną zbadano za pomocą kwestionariusza ankiety. Wyniki i wnioski z tych badań przedstawiono w niniejszym artykule.
Environmental education is based on the concept of developing and educating the society in the spirit of natural environment conservation. Environmental education is carried out not only at schools in the framework of formal and informal education but also at home, in media, by local authorities and a number of organisations active in the local environment Only a joint effort of the school, family and the localenvironment enables developing a member of the society who is active at present but also in the adult life. Viewpoints, opinions and confirmation of practical actions carried out by primary and secondary school pupils, parents, teachers and the students concerning the cooperation of school and the local society were studied by a questionnaire. The article presents the obtained data and the conclusions drawn based on it.Ewa Fleszar: The role of environmental subjects teacher in realizing ecological and environmental education. The role of environmental teaching specialists in realizing ecological and environmental education is significant and varied. Above all, it comes down to the help offered to teachers in running and realizing the subjects related to ecological and environmental education. It concerns the teachers who teach environmental education, biology, ecology and environment conservation. The role of teaching specialists is writing syllabuses to be realizedin the classrooms (at schools) or during field trips in direct contact with nature. Running post-graduate university courses in the subject they include the issues of ecology and environmental protection. They invite teachers of nature, biology, ecology and environment protection to Seminars, Symposiums, Conferences that deal with the subject of ecology and environment teaching.

Opis:
Wyzwaniem stawianym szkole jest rozwijanie współczesnego człowieka w taki sposób, aby przygotować go do życia w zmieniającym się świecie. Szkołę natomiast tworzą ludzie i to od kapitału ludzkiego i społecznego tej instytucji zależy stan przyszłego kapitału społecznego naszego kraju. Warunkiem koniecznym budowania go jest m.in. efektywna współpraca. W artykule przedstawiono analizę dotychczasowych wyników badań w obszarze współpracy w szkole (w opinii dyrektorów polskich szkół) oraz szkoły ze środowiskiem lokalnym. Rozważania oparto na dwóch raportach: SZKOŁA WSPÓŁPRACY: Uczniowie i rodzice kapitałem społecznym nowoczesnej szkoły. Raport zbiorczy z badania jakościowego [Trutkowski 2014] oraz Współpraca szkół z podmiotami zewnętrznym. Raport z badania otoczenia instytucjonalnego przedszkoli, szkół podstawowych i gimnazjów [Hernik, Solon-Jasiński, Stasiowski, Slijko 2012].
The challenge posed to school is to develop a modern man in such a way to prepare him for life in a changing world. The school is made up of people – the future status of the social capital of our country depends on human and social capital of this institution. A necessary condition of creating is e.g. effective cooperation. The article presents an analysis of existing research results in the area of cooperation in school (in the opinion of the headmasters of Polish schools) and schools with the local community. Considerations are based on two reports: SZKOŁA WSPÓŁPRACY: Uczniowie i rodzice kapitałem społecznym nowoczesnej szkoły, Raport zbiorczy z badania jakościowego [Trutkowski 2014] and Współpraca szkół z podmiotami zewnętrznym. Raport z badania otoczenia instytucjonalnego przedszkoli, szkół podstawowych i gimnazjów [Hernik, Solon-Jasiński, Stasiowski, Slijko 2012].

Ważnym aspektem spędzania czasu wolnego przez młodzież jest organizacja tego czasu przez rodzinę, szkołę, placówki i organizacje pozarządowe oraz Kościół. Odpowiednio zorganizowany czas wolny pozwala bowiem zagwarantować, że młodzież w sposób bezpieczny i odpowiedzialny będzie spędzać ten czas, a przy tym będzie mogła rozwijać swoje zainteresowania oraz nabywać nowe umiejętności i doświadczenia życiowe. Młodzi ludzie uczą się przy tym służyć innym i stają się odpowiedzialni w realizowaniu powziętych zamierzeń i wykonywaniu powierzonych im zadań. Można stwierdzić, iż na osobach i instytucjach organizujących wolny czas dla młodzieży spoczywa ogromna odpowiedzialność, gdyż nieumiejętnie zorganizowany czas wolny może negatywnie wpłynąć na proces wychowania i kształtowania osobowości młodego człowieka. Jeżeli organizacją czasu wolnego zajmują się odpowiednio wykwalifikowane osoby i sprawdzone placówki, to spędzanie wolnego czasu przez młodzież może się stać „motorem” do dalszego własnego rozwoju, co w konsekwencji doprowadzi do tego, że odpowiednio ukształtowany wewnętrznie młody człowiek stanie się w dorosłym życiu zawodowym, rodzinnymi i prywatnym osobą godną zaufania. Będzie też umiał odpowiednio dobrze realizować powierzone mu zadania i pełnić role społeczne (np. rolę dobrego ojca lub matki). Ponadto dobrze przygotowany do tego młody człowiek sam zorganizuje sobie w przyszłości swój wolny czas, a także pomoże w jego organizacji innym, np. członkom rodziny.

This article explores these two keywords through the approach of placing “school” on a continuum between the two extremes of a transactional, instrumental organisation and a transformational community. The variety of stakeholder groups are redefined to include personification of abstract concepts and the model of community is considered including these stakeholders. School is looked at here as a verb rather than a noun and the extent to which school must by definition be, or have the form of, an organisation, is seen as a manifestation of the will of the community, with the levers of transaction pulled by the Head on behalf of the community. The 1994 UNESCO international conference on education provides a framework for discussion about culture and the purpose of education, which is reconciled with the evolving model described and envisioned in this short paper.

W artykule zaproponowano interpretację porównawczą dwóch typów tekstów: typograficznych w zestawieniu z literackim. Są to różne wersje napisu solidarność, w których wykorzystuje się fonty tzw. solidarycy oraz Oda do młodości Mickiewicza. Kategorie opisu oczywiste przy analizie graficznej (tło, kształt czcionki, kolor itp.) pozwalają z nowej perspektywy spojrzeć także na znany wiersz. Oba typy tekstów są zestawiane jako perswazyjne wypowiedzi o sensie, cechach i zależnościach wspólnoty oraz jednostki poszukującej w niej swego miejsca, w określonych kontekstach historyczno-społecznych.
This article proposes a comparative interpretation of two types of texts: typographic and literary, i.e. different versions of writing solidarność, which are written in three different fonts, so called Solidaryca and Ode to Youth by Adam Mickiewicz. Common categories of graphic analysis (background, form of the font, its colour etc) allow for a new perspective to look at the poem. Both types of text are compared as persuasive expressions of meaning, characteristics and mutual dependencies between the community and the individual in certain socio-historical contexts.
